😮Did you know Brazil has the largest Japanese diaspora in the world? 日本以外最も多い日本人がいる国はブラジルだ!A maioria dos brasileiros sabe disso, mas o país com mais japoneses fora do Japão é o Brasil!

💡In the early 20th Century, rural Japan was poor & underdeveloped. Brazil had just outlawed slavery in the 1880’s, so farmers were looking for cheap labor to replace the former slave labor. So many Japanese people immigrated to Brazil!

🔙Not covered in this video, but another interesting historical fact is that when Japan later experienced its postwar economic growth, many Japanese-Brazilians repatriated back to Japan. But many had been born in Brazil so they basically had Brazilian culture. So now Brazil has big Japanese communities, and Japan has big Brazilian communities. Wow! Haha

💁🏼‍♀️🎥🇺🇸Festival Brasil & Latino (in Tokyo every July) > Japanese Overseas Migration Museum (in Yokohama, free admission- it was a really good museum) > Museum of Japanese Immigration & Liberdade (Japan Town) (in São Paulo)

🇺🇸🇯🇵🇧🇷I never would've thought Japanese TV could transport me somewhere! That's the magic of channel TBS's show The World Heritage!

🤭Heehee, ok well, actually I went here in July and got so excited to hear it was gonna be on Japanese TV today

🌊Lençóis Maranhenses was seriously unbelievable! It was awarded World Heritage status in 2024, and it's easy to see why- it's stunning!

🌎Located in Brazil's northeastern state of Maranhão, it's not easy to get to. You have to book a tour (which you can do day of), and you're gonna ride some bumpy roads, and be sure to check the season for this scenery. But it is breathtaking.

💁🏼‍♀️I’m Stephy, from the USA living in Japan! I always post about Japan, so my few Brazil videos will be related to Japan as well. They've got a surprisingly strong connection! Follow for more!

Beijos! 💚💛 (Desculpe se esse português estiver estranho, usei o Google 😅)

🍁🌾We know Japan has amazing fall foliage, but not everyone realizes this includes more than just red leaves!

🗓️The red leaves are at their peak fairly late in the autumn season (late November to December depending on the region & year), so pampas grass is a great way to get those autumn vibes in Japan in October 🥹🌾🍁

😮Are you curious on Japanese-Western interaction when Japan opened to the world in the 19th Century? If you’re not, you should be, because it’s super interesting!

🧱Yokosuka is famous for holding a US Naval base as well as Japanese naval facilities, but it didn’t end up that way by accident. Yokosuka is a port city that held a big part in Japan’s Meiji Restoration, the period where Japan finally opened up to and began heavily interacting with the west.

🏠This museum was the oldest western-style building in all of Japan’s main Honshu island until they changed it up to make it this free museum. You can learn a lot of interesting points about Japan during that time, watch interesting movies (¥200), get a map of all the free stuff to do around Yokosuka, and even pick up a free sukejan jacket manhole card!

🕳️The sukejan manhole is across the street from the mall near this museum and park. The Commodore Perry (US naval commander who sailed to Japan to demand its opening to the world) manhole card can be gotten at the tourist information center at Yokosuka-Chuo Station (he has manholes around the city).

🆓Some other free stuff around Yokosuka include Verny Park (with a great harbor view), the Varny Commemorative (naval) Museum, rose gardens, and more!

😲🗡️Don't you wanna see what old snowy Japan and samurai life was like??

🛖This is Aoyagi Samurai Manor Museum, and we had a blast! There were lots of hands-on activities and photo ops of armor, and we learned a lot too. There were historic photographs of samurai traveling abroad, some of Japan's first medical diagrams from a scientist in the family, and northern Japan-specific artifacts such as a kimono-shaped blanket for sleeping and big boots for tamping down snow.

🌱Plus, the gardens were really beautiful. They were great for strolling, and they must be lovely in any season.

👞Shoes can be worn throughout most of the facility, it's just one optional section that you have to take them off.

🫖There's a cafe restaurant on site too!

💡This is a great stop for passionate and moderate history lovers given that there is a lot of information but the displays are fun too!

🚶This museum is in Kakunodate City, a gorgeous small town full of history. It's famous during fall foliage and sakura season, but it was beautiful in the late summer when I went and must be in the winter as wel! There are other samurai residences in the town, local eateries, and the lovely inn akitainu_kakunodate with 2 Akita Inu dogs you can play with (see my last video).

🐶❄️Tohoku is Japan's hidden gem region in the north! Easy to get to yet often skipped by tourists. See my 2025-10-07 18:21:40 .. 0 -100% 18 -18%
🥹🐶Do you wanna spend time with Japanese Akita inu dogs?? Who wouldn't? Then this is the place for you!!

🗡️Enishi is a wonderful guesthouse in beautiful Kakunodate City, Akita Prerecture, in Japan's northern Tohoku region. Maybe you've never heard of Kakunodate, but it has a lot of samurai history, so it's pretty cool town. Plus there's a Shinkansen stop, so it's easy to get to from Tokyo!

🐶🐶The two Akita dogs who live here are Suu-Chan and Fujiko, and they're so cool! When you first get there they will be all happy, but after that they're pretty chill 🐶🥰

🚶Plus, you can join them for their twice daily walks (canceled when rainy) and have a turn walking them and taking photos with them around the historic town!

😅 I myself stopped going to animal cafes after realizing they're actually a generally inhumane business model. So I am really happy to go to a place like this where the dogs are actual residents and you're not really bothering them by hanging out 🥰

🇺🇸Btw, did you know that Japanese and American Akita inu are slightly different? That's why I keep saying 2025-10-04 17:28:15 .. 1,622 +106% 34 +55%
🍜So you definitely wanna eat ramen in Japan, but some of the language and procedure for eating can be surprising! 😮 Details below ⤵︎

👀This is a quick ramen guide, the full one is on my profile! I also post useful travel Japanese phrases weekly 🤗

📍Big thanks to Mendokoro Tomo Premium tomo_premium for the amazing ramen and permission to film this. The modern experimental ramen was great, I’d recommend it if you want try something new!

🎫First, order your ramen at a ticket vending machine by the door. Sometimes they have English, but if not, you can use your phone’s translation app camera translation function. Choose your ramen type, sometimes your noodle amount, and your drinks toppings and sides, then pay (usually with cash, but sometimes with card these days). Then you’ll give your ticket to the staff; they may ask how firm you want your noodles

🍜Of course you wanna eat ramen in Japan, but did you know that ramen shops in Japan operate differently than those in the west?😮

👀It's Word Wednesday, and this week's travel vocab is about ramen!

🥰first, thanks to ramenpharmacist for posting this shop
📍& thanks to tomo_premium for the amazing ramen and permission to film this. The modern experimental ramen was great, I’d recommend it if you want try something new!
🚃5 minutes from Akasaka-Mitsuke Station in Tokyo (close to the amazing Hie Shrine⛩️)

Choose your ramen type, sometimes your noodle amount, and your drinks toppings and sides, then pay (usually with cash, but sometimes with card these days). Then you’ll give your ticket to the staff; they may ask how firm you want your noodles

🪑Take your seat. Most ramen shops have counter seats, but sometimes they have tables. If a paper apron is available or offered to you, I suggest you use it! Ramen gets sloppy hehe

💦Water is usually self-service, sometimes in a pitcher and sometimes in a central water cooler

👅You can slurp, it’s totally fine! But the western saying of it “being polite, a compliment to the chef” is a bunch of phooey. If you ask a Japanese person or search online *in Japanese*, it’ll usually say that it helps cool the noodles down, or the air accentuates the taste. My guess is that years ago someone had to tell westerners “it’s not rude” and that got turned into “it’s actually really polite” haha

🙋If you want to order more drinks or sides mid-meal, you usually don’t have to go back up to the ticket machine, you can ask at your seat

🚮Most ramen shops have tissues on the counter. Sometimes there’s a specific trash can for them, so have a look around. If they don’t have one, just ball your paper up and leave it on the table or put it in your cup or somewhere dry

🆙Sometimes when you’re finished you put your bowl up top. But not always, so watch others

🚽Would you use this bathroom with a 1-way mirror?? Don't worry, you can see out not in 😉🤣

😯Would you walk through a tunnel for these vibes and these views?

🤔More importantly- is it worth going?

👍🎨Panorama Station/Kiyotsu Gorge Tunnel is a long pedestrian tunnel built to be a work of art, and mission accomplished if you ask me. I quite liked the pieces and the all-encompassing design. With no cars, trains, or anything else to worry about, you can roam.

👎📲However, if you're someone who hates being around Instagrammers, this spot may annoy you, haha. Most of the negative reviews on Google are from people who seem annoyed at other people 🤣 For reference, my mom enjoyed it, and she doesn't care about photos, so this is gonna depend on your personality (and how crowded it is when you go)

😌In short, I don't know if I'd made a big trip just for this, but if you have other things to do in the area or you really like art you should totally stop in.

🥳If you time your visit right, you can do other things around town. There are sometimes art festivals throughout the town in the warmer months, there's a snow festival in February, and of course snow sports are huge around there. It's not toooo far from Yuzawa and Naeba ski resorts. Have a search before you go!

🚶The round trip walk takes about 40 minutes, but could take longer if you take photos or wait in line (it wasn't long when I went)

⭐️Try to go on a weekday, and definitely not a holiday, to avoid crowds. I went on a weekday in March.

*Edit: apparently some seasons you need a reservation, so check the website! (Below)

🍵If you like green tea, this free museum is a great stop for your Tokyo trip!

💴❌The Oi Ocha Museum, run by the famous bottled green tea brand Oi Ocha, is a small interactive museum about green tea in Japan. The photo spots are fun! The displays are very interesting; they were all in Japanese, but you could use your phone's camera translation app. It's definitely a smaller museum, but it was a nice relaxing stop 😄

💴In the same building, the Ocha (tea) Culture Creation Museum is about the history of tea in Japan. It's ¥500; I didn't go in because it was close to closing time

🚂This is also the site of the old Shimbashi Station, so there are some displays about that too!

🍵They also have a cafe with green tea drinks and sweets, and a cool gift shop where I got a green tea flavored dorayaki cake and do note the display stuffed toy with seasonal garb including some taiyaki 😍

🍼Oh, and I got my new favorite stuffed animal (stuffed tea??) Oi Ocha-Kun. His legs and arms are pose-able, so I’m absolutely taking him around (including on a road trip to Hirosaki Castle 😆)

🍣🤯Can you imagine sushi that's so rich, you question every piece you've ever eaten before? 👇Booking info below👇

🥹 I honestly don't think I could have really fathomed it before I ate at Sushisho Masa. Sure, I've had great sushi before, even omakase sushi, but this blows everything else outta the water... and onto a bed of rice! 🤪

🦪Even some sushi that tends to be less popular, such as uni (sea urchin) and octopus, were so incredibly tasty. They were so fresh, and there wasn't the typical bitterness or chewiness.

🍣Chef Masakatsu Oka and his sous chefs cut, shaped, and seasoned each piece with extreme care and precision.

🐟Serving up the classics such as salmon and tuna, as well as some more unique sushi choices such as raw shrimp and shirako, they even served different cuts of some fish so you could taste the differences.

😅If you've got any allergies or things you don't like, you can tell them at the beginning and they'll give you substitute piece for that round. The lady next to us didn't want any organs, and they were really good about it.

🙌You get so many pieces that there's no way you're leaving hungry. After about 40-50 pieces, they'll ask you if you want to continue for an extra fee or stop there (we stopped haha)

🍶Some dishes come with a sake pairing (extra cost), and they have typical soft drinks and tea as well.

🪑With only 2 seatings per night, this meal is intimate.

🥳🔤But don't let that intimidate you! I was a bit nervous before going, but there's no need! The chef and sous chefs are so friendly, playful, and speak English! They know a lot about fish, so ask them plenty of questions!

🎟️Reservations are required and are also notoriously hard to get. We got our reservation through JPNEAZY, and it was such an easy process. Check them out here jpneazy_official
