Following Procter & Gamble’s exit, another multinational, Philip Morris (Pakistan) Limited, has announced its delisting from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The PSX administration has officially approved the delisting, effective from October 6, 2025. This move means Philip Morris shares will no longer be traded on the exchange from that date.

The company’s sponsors have offered a buyback at Rs1,300 per share, valid until September 29, 2026, providing shareholders an opportunity to sell their shares back. Shareholders are advised to contact Topline Securities Limited for buyback-related matters.

In connection with the delisting, PSX has issued notifications to the Central Depository Company (CDC) and the National
Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) to facilitate the process. This development follows a trend of multinational companies reconsidering their presence in Pakistan’s stock market, raising questions about future foreign investments.

Bitcoin surged to a new record high on Sunday, crossing the $125,000 milestone and reaching $125,689, surpassing its previous August peak of $124,500. The cryptocurrency’s rise comes amid strong market momentum, with investors eyeing safe-haven assets as uncertainty looms over a potential US government shutdown. Gains in US equities have also bolstered bitcoin’s climb.

Analysts highlight that US President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance has played a major role in boosting sentiment. His administration’s embrace of digital assets marks a sharp shift from the scepticism under former President Joe Biden. In July, the US House of Representatives passed three landmark crypto bills, further fueling optimism.

According to Bloomberg News, experts note that bitcoin’s rise aligns with a broader trend of asset inflation, from equities and gold to collectibles like Pokémon cards. With dollar weakness, bitcoin continues to shine as a store of value.

In a story of resilience and cross-cultural leadership, Pakistani-Canadian Altamash “Alt” Haider has been knighted by the Government of the Philippines with the Knight First Class, Order of Rizal — one of the nation’s highest honors, rarely awarded to foreign nationals. The title recognizes individuals who dedicate their lives to service, education, and nation-building in the spirit of Dr. José Rizal.

Born in Karachi on October 5, 2001, Haider studied at The CAS School and volunteered at SIUT before moving to Canada in 2013. During high school, he recalls walking into a McDonald’s with his résumé, ready to take his first step into Canada’s workforce. Hired on the spot as a cleaner, he proudly embraced the role and credits his Filipino colleagues for shaping his passion for intercultural understanding.

From those humble beginnings, Haider went on to serve as a Sargent (2014–2017), join HELI Canada, and later graduate from York University. Today, he is recognized as a bridge-builder between Pakistani and Filipino youth — celebrating their shared resilience, creativity, and community spirit.

“This honor is not mine alone,” Haider reflected. “It belongs to every young Pakistani who works hard, builds bridges, and represents our nation with integrity.” His story has been featured in The Manila Times, Express Tribune, and Express News, marking his remarkable journey from Karachi’s classrooms to the global stage.

Amid the formal lifting of the ban on the export of donkey hides to China by the government of Pakistan, preparations are underway for the final inspection of the Chinese pharmaceutical company Hengeng Trading Enterprise.

The company aims to operate Pakistan’s first donkey slaughterhouse in the Gwadar North Free Zone. The General Administration of Customs of China has already conducted an online inspection to approve Hengeng’s processes and procedures under prescribed laws.

A Balochistan government official stated that the federal government has authorised the export of donkey hides to China through an amendment to the Ministry of Commerce’s Export Policy Order.

According to the notification, the export will only be permitted for firms manufacturing in designated and registered donkey slaughterhouses within the Gwadar Free Zone North. The official added that in July 2024, protocols for exporting donkey skins and meat to China had already been finalised.

The Chinese company, Hengeng Trading Enterprise, has also received certification from Pakistan Animal Quarantine (Import and Export of Animals and Animal Products) to operate the facility. Pakistan’s first China-led, modern slaughterhouse for donkey meat and hides has been constructed at a cost of $50 million in the Gwadar North Free Zone and now awaits final operational approval.

An official from the Ministry for Maritime Affairs shared that donkeys being reared at farmhouses in various parts of Punjab will be transported to the Gwadar facility. There, their meat and skins will be processed following international standards before being exported to China.

The Gwadar donkey slaughterhouse is expected to introduce advanced slaughter technology in Pakistan, ensuring disease-free meat and high-quality preservation through a cold chain system.

According to the latest data, Pakistan’s donkey population has reached 5.9 million during the fiscal year 2023–24, marking a steady increase that aligns with the country’s plans to develop a sustainable export industry for donkey-derived products. 2025-10-05 18:00:22 Amid the fo.. 306 -67% 9 -42%

As seasonal smog settles over Lahore, triggering red alerts, Chinese-made anti-pollution “mist cannons” — also known as anti-smog guns — went into action across the city on October 2. Lahore, home to more than 10.4 million people, is seeing these machines in use for the first time in Pakistan’s history.

The initiative, launched by the Punjab government in partnership with a local company, follows the recent import of specialized parts from China. After being assembled locally, the mist cannons were mounted on mobile trucks and are now operating citywide. Their goal is to combat the heavy smog that last year severely threatened public health.

The cannons spray fine water droplets into polluted areas to help capture and remove toxic particles from the air. Currently, 15 units are in operation, with another five in production. If results in Lahore prove effective, the government plans to expand their use.

China has been using similar technology since 2012 in cities like Chongqing and Changsha, adapting equipment originally designed for mining and construction sites. Demand grew after provinces such as Hebei reported success in reducing pollution levels.

According to an official from the Punjab Environment Protection Department, the cannons disperse nebulized water or anti-smog chemicals through specialized mist-generating devices, precision nozzles, pumps, and advanced control systems.

Environmentalist Majid Jahangir noted that the machines, dubbed “magic smog cleaners,” are currently being tested in Lahore. While they may help reduce dangerous PM2.5 particles, he cautioned that widespread use could strain local water resources.

Similar machines are already in use in India, where smog has long been a chronic issue. Experts say the cannons can provide short-term relief and significantly reduce harmful particle concentrations in densely populated areas. 2025-10-05 17:00:22 As seasonal.. 662 -29% 15 -3%
