When I travel abroad, I often find that people have never met Black Americans before and don’t realize that our culture is a distinct subgroup of American culture with distinct cultural traditions and foods. For me, when I think of American food beyond the stereotypical burger, my mind immediately goes to things like collared greens, baked macaroni and cheese, candied yams, and cornbread. Someone of a different race and from a different part of the country might have another answer. What do y’all think of Christ the Redeemer?? Is visiting Christ the Redeemer something I recommend while visiting Rio? 100% yes! Do I personally think it compares to the other world wonders I’ve visited? If you’re heading to Rio, make sure to save this as you plan for your trip 🇧🇷 One thing I didn’t mention above is safety. Rio is known for petty theft (as are many major cities around the world) so I highly recommend on keeping a close eye on your belongings and avoiding bringing any extremely valuable items that you don’t want to lose. I went to Rio and had no issues but I know that the risk is there and it’s always better to be safe rather than sorry. Here’s what it’s like to visit Petra by night! Keep in mind tickets to Petra by night are not included in the Jordan pass and are otherwise completely separate from your ticket to Petra during the day. Here’s what it’s like to visit the world wonder, Petra!! 🇯🇴 Contrary to popular belief, Petra is far more than just the Treasury; it’s a whole city! While I only had about 6 hours to explore, you could easily spend multiple days here trying to see as much as possible! If you wouldn’t want someone going through your neighborhood and treating you and your home like a spectacle, why would you do it to others? Favelas are a direct consequence of wealth inequality in Brazil that stems back to slavery and colonization. It is a sign of deep structural racism and classism that continues to affect people today. The romanticization of favelas is harmful and fails to recognize why they exist in the first place. There are meaningful ways to engage with people in favelas by frequenting their restaurants and supporting their small businesses. Favela tours are not the only or even the best way to support its residents. my experience at Camp Château 💞 sponsored | This past summer, I spent 6 days at a women’s summer camp in the French countryside and please believe me when I tell you this has been one of the best travel experiences I’ve EVER had. Solo hiking all 2025!! Most of my previous hikes haven’t been so fun for me because I always get left behind because I’m too slow or I find myself trying to keep up with the pace of the group even though it’s too fast for me.
