A cozy little spot in Nogata specializing in omurice, the classic Japanese omelette rice dish. We tried two versions—the traditional ketchup and the demi-glace. Both were beautifully plated with super fluffy eggs, but that demi-glace sauce was the winner for us. Rich, savory, and perfect with the soft omelette. The ketchup one was fine but didn’t stand out as much. Some people swear this is the best omurice around, so maybe it’s one you should try and decide for yourself!

A cozy and modern café tucked just a few minutes from Koenji Station. NEYO neyo_koenji serves beautiful drinks and homemade sweets in a calm, stylish space that feels like a local favorite. Satoshi had an iced coffee topped with Japanese purin and ice cream—such a fun combo—and I went for a matcha latte with a slice of basque cheesecake. Everything was great, but that pudding? Absolutely the standout.

Kageyama Ramen ramen_kageyama in Shinjuku serves flavorful bowls of Paitan ramen made with a rich chicken broth. I went for the Dandanmen, which had the perfect balance of spice and creaminess, while Satoshi’s Paitan Shio brought out that deep chicken flavor. Don’t skip the gyoza — they’re golden and juicy.

Crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside — that’s what makes Age.3 (pronounced Age-san) age.3_ginza in Ginza such a hit. 🥪✨
They specialize in deep-fried sandwiches, and each one is made fresh to order. We tried the spicy keema curry, which had a serious kick, and the fig sandwich, which was sweet, creamy, and absolutely delicious. There’s also a simple fresh cream version that we’re already planning to try next time.

Kakuuchi KAN (角打ちKAN) kakuuchi.kan is a unique spot inside T-MARKET at Toranomon Hills Station Tower. It blends two concepts in one: a casual kakuuchi-style standing bar where you can enjoy sake, wine, or craft spirits bought right from the shop, and an adjoining izakaya-style counter with seating for those who prefer to settle in with food and drinks. Both are run by the same owner, so you can choose the experience that fits your mood — quick standing drinks in a lively atmosphere, or a more relaxed meal at the counter. It’s a great place to discover new sake, share plates, and enjoy the social side of Tokyo drinking culture.

We spent one epic food day in Sydney, and I’m still thinking about every stop. Here’s where we headed:

☕ diggydooscoffee for Yuki’s Bagels (Rendang & Kransky were standout flavors)

🥧 lode_pies for their Bolognese Pie — cheesy, savory, unforgettable

🍙 cafemaru_wynyard for onigiri with Akita Komachi rice and fresh nori — best outside Japan

🍜 kombu.lab for ramen, especially their shio — one of the most flavor-packed salt ramens we’ve had

🍝 spagosyd for prawn tomato garlic gamberi pasta that Satoshi loved

🥢 goldencenturybbq (inside The Exchange) for comforting Chinese noodles and char siu rice

🍰 letao_australia for soft-serve with their famous cheesecake — a rare find outside Hokkaido

The Sydney Fish Market sydneyfishmarket is one of the world’s largest seafood markets and a must-visit spot for food lovers. With a lively atmosphere and countless stalls, it’s the perfect place to sample Australia’s freshest catch.

Every Thursday and Sunday in Sydney, Diggydoo’s Coffee diggydooscoffee teams up with Yuki’s Bagels yukibageljp9 , and it’s worth planning your visit around. These aren’t your average bagels — they’re creative, flavorful, and truly some of the best we’ve tried anywhere.

Standouts included the Rendang Bagel, the adorable Matcha Turtle (like melon bread but in bagel form), the Sweet Potato Cream Cheese, and the Kransky Bagel with smoky, juicy sausage. Yuki also makes onigiri, adding a Japanese touch to the lineup.

Enjoying these with coffee from Diggydoo’s made for one of our favorite experiences in Sydney — a perfect mix of comfort and creativity.

The place is always packed with regulars and it makes sense. The staff here are amazingly friendly, and they make you feel right at home, including Yuki-san who was the nicest lady ever.

Akita Junmai Sakedokoro akita_ricewine_dining in Ebisu is a stylish izakaya that specializes in two things: yakitori made with Hinai Jidori, a prized breed of chicken from Akita, and a wide selection of sake from the same prefecture. The combination is perfect, especially if you’re a fan of both yakitori and sake.

Just discovered my new go-to hideaway in Koenji — Sake Bar KoKoN sakebar_kokon . Nestled underground and just a 3-minute walk from JR Koenji Station, this mellow spot serves up a killer selection of sake (from classic brews to modern craft pours—by the glass!), paired with snack bites that somehow taste even better after a few sips. It’s super cozy and styled like a secret hide-out — the perfect vibe for solo sipping or date night.

I actually found Kokon on Tabelog, Japan’s biggest restaurant review site. Even though it’s rated 3.0, don’t let that fool you — locals know that sometimes the most memorable places aren’t the highest-ranked. Right in front of Tokyo International Forum in Yurakucho (next to Ginza), you’ll find a rotating lineup of food trucks serving everything from Japanese bentos to international dishes. We tried two of them, and both were standouts.

Wa Tokyo serves up Japanese-style bentos, and the salmon bento was outstanding. Perfectly grilled fish, fluffy rice, and delicious side dishes made it feel more like a restaurant meal than a takeaway box.

Comida Latina specializes in taco rice and has even won awards for it. The avocado taco rice was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced — probably the best we’ve had in Tokyo.

During lunchtime in Marunouchi, one of Tokyo’s busiest business districts, the main street is closed to traffic and filled with food trucks. Tables and chairs are set out on the street, making it a lively and unique place to grab lunch right in the heart of the city.

Among the many options, Omtrak is one of the most popular trucks — known for their fluffy omurice topped with sauces like ketchup, white sauce, and a rich, meaty demiglace that’s full of flavor.

Sauvage ramen_sauvage is a Tokyo ramen shop that stands out for one reason: they use jidori, a rare type of free-range chicken unique to Japan, as the base for their broth. The result is ramen that’s delicate yet full of flavor — a style that reflects the chef’s French culinary background.

We tried both their shoyu and shio ramen. The shoyu is rich and complex with layers of umami, while the shio is subtle and lets the jidori flavor shine.
