- DUPE ALERT 🚨 btw who actually thought dupes=duplicates in the skincare world lol imo skincare is way more complicated than makeup, so 100% DUPE does not really exist. Alternative is the right word, but DUPE sounds more catchy for marketing purposes. For example, cosmetic chemists can formulate the product differently by adding/ subtracting different ingredients/ changing the concentration of actives/ using different technology (My biochem education helps me analyze products & ingredients). But I can always tell some affordable alternatives are inspired by the expensive OGs (often best-sellers). As a former designer (I used to design products for work for different markets), my pov is cheaper alternatives provide a more accessible option to the public (esp young people) because NOT everyone wants to splurge $50+ on a skincare product. If affordable alternatives work well for your skin, you don’t need to splurge on expensive skincare. I like whatever performs the best lol. Why is luxury skincare so expensive? Because brands made them for older people (30-60+), who usually make more money than younger people (teens & college students). You already know older people would spend money on skincare to look as young as possible. . - First time trying deciem “The Ordinary Argireline solution 10%”. I was excited to try it because some scientific studies said “Argireline is a mimetic of Botox” and beauty magazines said it is a “Botox serum.” I read that years ago, and I was curious, so I had to try it finally! First impression: it is not hydrating & feels quite drying on my combo, acne-prone & sensitive skin. It gave me a small pimple on my left cheek. FYI, some beauty professionals said you should mix Argireline solution 10% with Matrixyl 10% for “the same effect as injectables.” I am skeptical about that statement, but I should try it for 3+ months (2x/ daily) to tell a difference. IMO Argireline solution doesn’t replace Botox (topical cosmetics vs injecting Botulinum toxin into facial muscles, different mechanisms), but it’s fun to try new ingredients lol. Would you give it a try? LMK your thoughts!
