![We love to joke, roll our eyes, or criticize women for being “always on their phone.” But here’s the thing: the phone has become the command center of modern life. It’s where so much of the planning, remembering, and managing gets done. From groceries and school emails to flights, RSVPs, and even work tasks, it all lives there now.
And yet, when women are on their phones, the assumption is often that they’re checked out or scrolling aimlessly. Rarely do we stop to think that what looks like “wasted time” is actually the invisible work that keeps families moving forward.
The double standard is hard to ignore. When men are on their phones, we’re quick to assume it’s work, something important. When women are on theirs, we assume it’s frivolous. That disconnect says a lot about what we value, and more importantly, what we dismiss.
Even if she is scrolling, sometimes that’s the only spare moment she’s had all day to disconnect from the mental tabs constantly running in her head. That isn’t laziness, it’s survival.
Phones aren’t the problem. The problem is how quick we are to judge women while overlooking the very real, very necessary work they’re doing there.

We love to joke about women and their packages. The endless stream of boxes, the “Amazon addiction,” the spending “his” paycheck. It’s become a running punchline.
But here’s what rarely gets said out loud: those packages are the mental load in action. Women aren’t just shopping for themselves. They’re shopping for the entire family. They’re the ones making sure the house has toilet paper, paper towels, soap, batteries. They’re the ones ordering shoes for the kids, art supplies for school, birthday gifts, and even the deodorant and razors you use every single day.
And women know it that’s why they’ll often joke that they’ve got bras older than their kids. Because when it comes down to it, they’ve been prioritizing household spending for years, and their own needs fall to the bottom of the list.
Here’s the kicker though: even if the package is for her, she’s allowed. We live in a society that markets aggressively to women, pushes consumerism at them 24/7, and then turns around and shames them for actually buying the thing.
So maybe instead of laughing about the packages, we should recognize them for what they are: proof of the invisible work women do every day to keep life running. Packages aren’t frivolous. They’re valuable.
