Just happened to witness something pretty amazing the other evening while deadheading the flowers. . Did you know Bumblebees only live for less than a year? . Over the winter the whole colony dies. Knowing this, the old queen will lay a new virgin queen that will hatch out in the fall season. This queen mates with the males that “bait” around the area where they live with pheromones. . After they are finished, the new queen will return to her nest, and the male bee will die. The remainder of the colony of the previous season will die and she will hibernate. When spring comes again, she will lay eggs and start an entire new colony. She will be the only one to survive the winter. . Let’s paint our pumpkins with chalk! . Now if you’re like us, we have so many half used sticks of sidewalk chalk from the summer that are just kind of hanging out in a bin. Submerge a few of those in water overnight (even by accident if you have left them out in the rain like we have,) they become like a paint. . Painting the pumpkins this way is such a fun fall activity! Messy, of course, so best done outside, in the garage or over a tarp. Let the kids get messy and creative. . Best part is, you can wash the pumpkins and start all over again! . Raymondskill Falls. It’s always such a wonderful little hike to enjoy these scenes. . This is a short .4 mile hike but my daughter and I spent a good amount of time taking in the majesty of these falls that sit at the highest point of PA. . You can hear the roaring of these huge falls as soon as you hit the trail. They can be seen from two platforms: the lower, providing the best view, and after climbing a few steep steps, there is an upper platform, where the overall view is just breathtaking. . I parked at the lower lot, but there is more parking and public restrooms available on the upper lot closer to the falls. . You can make this a longer trip by visiting some more of the beautiful falls and trails in the area. . We went back in time and enjoyed an exciting day in Wild West City! . As soon as you enter this unique western theme park, it feels as if you have traveled back to the real Wild West in the late 1800’s. . My kiddos were able to be real cowpokes for the day, as we got to explore the different shops, museums, rides and attractions. They were even sworn in as deputies during one of the various reenactment performances that go on through the day. . Riding atop the Stage Coach was such a cool experience. The horses are so beautiful to watch as they took us on a tour of the town. The train ride is also a fantastic way to view some of the sites. But be on the lookout for outlaws. . The shows and performances range from dramas, comedies, live music and historical reenactments. The majority of their shows take place on “Main Street.” . Live music and some good eats can be found in the Golden Nugget Saloon. . This awesome place has been family run for 60+ years, and it is very apparent that they love what they do. . Ok so this portion of the hike shouldn’t really take 3 hours but hikes with toddlers are a whole different game. . It’s honestly just a bit more interesting, as they stop to look and enjoy certain things that, oftentimes, I would just pass up. . Solo hikes are great but the kids just bring that much more adventure into it. Whether it’s wholesome, stressful, funny, you name it. . But I know that when I hike with the kids, I have to push aside the fact of just hiking to finish the hike, but instead, take a moment to balance on the silly little rock that they insist on leading you to, take a look at the dogs in the leaves that make them look like little foxes, or spot the shiny shells of all the turtles along the logs as they sit in size order. .
