Somehow Jeff and I had stumbled into our mid-30s without giving much thought to procreation. Frankly I thought I wasn’t a particularly fertile gal, but the very first night we opened the proverbial doors of possibility, I had a psychic-like feeling that I had gotten pregnant. And indeed, the one and only Phoebe Darling Adeline Grant-Krasno crashed our party 280 days later.

We were fully ensconced in our very busy lives and she immediately fit right into the groove. I slung her in to Kula Tribeca, and stuck her in a little loft we build (aka the ‘Phoebe Nook”) and nursed during Savasana. We took her to parties where she slept on couches while we squeezed the dregs out of our attenuated youth. We retreated and we festivaled.

She fit right in. She always has.

This child is born to people. Radiant, curious, empathetic, magnetic.

Phoebes, it’s feels like you have been 21 for a decade. But now you can finally retire the fake - and the bee costume - the toast yourself legally! 2025-08-22 03:27:05 Somehow Jeff and .. 568 +107% 40 +151%
Never had a DEXA? Don’t even know what it is? Or maybe you’re already a biohacker who scans regularly, but still have unanswered questions or want more professional guidance...this long weekend retreat is for you!

Science & Soul: A Women’s Longevity Retreat ✨
October 17–19 | Topanga Canyon

Join me and dr.marypardee in Topanga Canyon, where science meets soul this fall. This might be a Topanga first - we’ve got a mobile DEXA scan bus from bodyspec trekking up the windy canyon roads - so you can get deep insights into your muscle, bone, and body composition, overall metabolic health, and disease risk.

Our weekend will be packed with my vinyasa and breathwork classes (which will range from rigorous to restorative) as well as illuminating group lectures with Dr Mary and a one-on-one consultation to understand your Dexa results. Leaving just enough time in between for a hike, plenty of sauna/cold plunging, and Chef Ali’s delectable locally sourced feasts.

Back in the dark ages, longevity science catered to men. But no more! This retreat is carefully curated for women of all ages.

OK that’s a really bad yoga pun. But did you know that July 31st is National Orgasm Day? Well neither did I. (And truthfully, I think all of these ‘national days’ - like Ice Cream Day and Lost Sock Memorial Day - are either pretty stupid or overt marketing ploys by one industry or another. But even if National Orgasm day is being pushed by the sex toy lobby, I’m all in!)

Every day really should be International Orgasm Day!!

You can help celebrate by doing one or more of the following:
•Orgasming - OF COURSE
•Raising awareness about the health benefits of orgasms (which includes everything from increased immunity to looking significantly chronologically younger!)
•Raising awareness about the “orgasm gap” (Men in heterosexual relationships report orgasm rates of around 80%, while for women it’s around 50%. This gap persists across various age groups and even with increased sexual experience) and why women sometimes fake orgasms.
•Openly discussing the nuances of the female body and creative techniques for enhancing female pleasure.
•Regularly tending to your pelvic floor - yogically known as the elusive Mula Bandha!!

My very small personal contribution is teaching pelvic floor awareness... here is a little snippet from the pelvic floor section of my Form & Flow teacher training. Join me! This 25 hour virtual training is for students and teachers from all yogic traditions. I’ll be leading it again February 9 - March 14th - link in bio! It’s our 10th Balance Retreat! August 1–3 in Topanga. (The 5th also happens to be our 30 year wedding anniversary - shocking but true!)

Come revel with us Topanga style.

We’ll hike, practice, plunge, breathe, feast, and nerd out on the science of longevity. And at the end of our long days, we’ll curl up by the fire with Jeff reading aloud like some wise bedtime bard.

Balance is something we’re always adjusting. Sometimes we find it, we fall out, we find it again, and on and on. (Just like marriage!) This weekend is about practicing the lifelong dance of balance with more skill and equanimity.

So we’re doing it again…

It’s been six months since we lit up Los Angeles with the inaugural Luminescence — and women are still reaching out to me about how meaningful the summit was for them.

It’s incredible how impactful a one day event can be - 1,500 women (and a few good men taking notes!) - experiencing the elevated learning and inspiration that only comes in community. You can read book and listen to podcasts (and so do I), but there’s magic to being together.

Next stop: New York City (where I left my heart beating on those grubby, steamy streets), and then on to Austin, TX (another city I will never miss an opportunity to visit).

I’ll be hosting both nights, alongside a constellation of leading female physicians and scientists who are rewriting the script on our well being - Dr. Mary Claire Haver, Dr. Vonda Wright and Dr. Kelly Casperson. This is the women’s health education we all deserve nuanced, honest, and rooted in science.

The inaugural Luminescence in Los Angeles was such an unmitigated success - we simply must take it to the road!!

First stop… my old stomping grounds, New York Ciiiiitayyyy. Then we’re headed to another favorite metropolis of mine, Austin, TX. I look forward to wrangling a sea of cowgirl hats.

I am truly honored to be hosting both events (and maybe even sprinting in a little impromptu yoga magic into the mix).

Tickets are NOW LIVE, link in bio. Get on it, friends. The best way to elevate women’s health is in community. You already know this.

Newer teachers (even long time teachers!) are often confused about the difference between Kapalbhati (Skull Shining Breath) and Bhastrika (Breath of Fire or Bellows Breath).

Kapalbhati is a forceful exhalation followed by a passive inhalation, with an emphasis on the abdomen and diaphragm pumping the breath out. It can be practiced a rapid or a slower rate. Bhastrika on the other hand requires force on both the inhalation and exhalation and requires more muscularity in the ribcage and diaphragm and is generally practiced at a more rapid rate.

Both breathing practices enhance mental clarity, Bhastrika (as the name implies) is much more fiery energetically, while Kapalabhati is more tonifying.

Both are wonderful - just different. And if you are a teacher, don’t get them confused! 2025-06-14 03:10:50 Newer teachers (even lo.. 177 -36% 4 -75%
60 years ago today, Ann Halterman and JB (Jack) Grant got hitched.

The intervening years have not been easy. But they’ve also never been dull. And now these two old cutie pies have the very best time together.

Friday is ‘Love Day’. Every week they take a day off to just ‘be’ together. This often entails doing random chores around the property – chopping firewood, shoring up a rickety foundation, clearing runaway invasive bushes from the hillside. There probably used to be ‘love making’ (aaaghhhh perish the thought!), but now one of them is probably lucky to get a back rub. Very occasionally there might be a ‘medicinal’ enhancement to make the day that much more slow and luxurious. But there is always endless conversation, reading books and articles to each other, and laughing - so much laughing!!

After 6 decades… who could ask for more?

I looked up the ‘anniversary gift’ for the 60th, and it’s a diamond. It’s preposterous to think of either of my parents purchasing or wearing a diamond. But a raw diamond in its natural state, as they’re found deep within the earth, are rough, uneven, and jagged, and they come in a whole range of colors - from brown and yellow to occasionally blue and pink.

So here’s a virtual toast to my precious sparkling parents - nestled together in their increasingly rough and gnarled exteriors. They will never read this post. But I will wear them forever. 2025-05-29 10:00:11 .. 542 +97% 65 +307%
Ahhhh Eudēmonia! That new festival? Summit?? Let’s just say it was that ‘happening’ in West Palm Beach that everyone was talking about last November. (And asking ‘how the hell do you pronounce that?!)

Well. It’s ‘you-duh-MOH-nee-uh’. And it’s a 3 day investigation of the Aristotelian striving for a life well lived.

More prosaically, it’s a gathering of of the most prominent evidence-based health and wellness leaders of our time.

If you haven’t happened to come across it yet, Eudēmonia is where science meets soul, and performance meets philosophy. It’s a convergence of pioneering people and big ideas - sometimes inspirational, sometimes controversial, never dull.

The people gracing Eudēmonia’s stages have been leading their fields for years and are shaping the future of evidence-based well-being. This year I’ll join speakers like Andrew Huberman PhD, Mark Hyman MD, Rick Doblin PhD, Gabby Bernstein and Richard Schwartz, PhD, and of course my dearest brilliant hubby.

Balancing out all the brain teasing is a plethora of wellness experiences: breathwork, cold therapy, cryo, PEMF, resistance training, and of course best of all… moi!

Beyond the many lecture halls and movement studios, you’ll also find the EXPOSŌME—a hands-on showcase featuring top brands in personalized medicine, wellness tech, functional nutrition, and beyond. Expect live demos, book signings, and the chance to engage with some of the most innovative voices in health today.

Eu should most definitely join me… November 13 - 16 :) 2025-05-28 02:57:36 .. 136 -50% 14 -12%
Jeff, Phoebe and I had the great good fortune to spend 4 blissful days harvestseries #9 - replete with wildly smart and inspirational thought leaders - balanced by a bounty of feasting and frolicking. burakoymen_ and romancarel you are master puppeteers. Bravo.

The highlight was undoubtedly getting to know the wise and funny writer and activist Satish Kumar - satish.kumar.foundation . (If you, like me, aren’t looking for a guru but wouldn’t mind meeting the person who would fit the bill if you were looking… this is our guy!) More than 50 years ago, Satish walked a peace pilgrimage of over 8,000 miles from New Delhi to Moscow, through Europe, and to Washington, D.C. - and he finally got fitted for a pair of vivobarefoot shoes. Never too late. :) Go find him sometime at his schumachercollege international center for ecological studies in England. It’s now on my bucket list!

My June Topanga collaboration with the one and only Dr. Sara Szal Gottfried is sure to be just as potent as our past retreats. These long weekends are suffused with information and inspiration, work and play, feasting and frolicking.

To be completely honest, I was never attracted to leading a ‘women’s retreat’. There was something about it that seemed overly precious and self serious. But I discovered that there is real magic that happens with a group of women over a few days of practice and learning. (And it is indeed precious, but it is not at all overly serious.).

“It has been quite amazing how fast my body has opened up, strengthened and gained flexibility. As someone who had a very regular Vinyasa practice but has been away from it for at least a decade, this is giving me just what I need to return home.” —Tadimdia

Thank you sweet tadimdia for this testimonial about Breath, Body, & Beats. I created this course because I am of course obsessed with alignment and nuanced sequencing - and equally intoxicated with dropping into a breath based flow.

I formatted this 21 day program so that students of all levels can get exactly what they are looking for, and also so that newer practitioners can progress over time toward a more ‘advanced’ practice.

I service all parts of the body and explore all aspects of the practice in a cyclical format week by week. Week 1 introduces an all-levels flow, Week 2 builds onto the same sequence with intermediate-level variations, and Week 3 offers an array of spicy play on the same themes.

Day 5 of each week focuses on twisting. Twisting often involves binding the arms. Binds and half-binds can be a lot. But when you shift your focus from getting bound up to using a bind to create extension and freedom for the spine - you will find that your arms can illuminate a twist in a way you never imagined.

The first week of this course is free. (Like I hope your spine will be.) Link is in my bio of course. 2025-05-07 00:23:31 “It has been qu.. 165 -40% 2 -87%
Shoulder pain is the #1 issue that students come to me with. I might add that this is a huge issue for EVERYONE - because we increasingly live in a world where the health of our shoulders is badly compromised: Working on devices, driving, baby carrying, and sedentary lifestyles generally impact the function and health of our shoulders.

(And a dirty little secret about yoga?! Many yoga practitioners develop pretty gnarly rotator cuff injuries… largely from poor alignment in Chaturanga and Urdhva Mukha Svanasana. Yoga is powerful. For good or ill.)

Brit came up to my little practice perch in Laurel Canyon - she’s a server suffering some pretty classic shoulder issues. I served her up a sequence to strengthen, open and balance her rotators. This is a recipe pretty much all of you need!

Both restorative and yin are powerful because they use the body as a tool to focus the mind.

My Form & Flow Yoga Intensive and Retreat primary is primarily focused on Kula Style practice and teaching - which of course is quite rigorous and precise. But we will also explore how quieter modalities can bring depth and balance to a strong vinyasa practice. And why finding balance between ‘Sthira and Sukham’ matters - as both a teacher and a practitioner.

This 25-hour intensive is designed to deepen your relationship to the practice—through alignment, sequencing, anatomy, pranayama, bandha, and Kula-style classes that weave it all together.

Whether you teach or not, this retreat will meet you where you are—and give you more tools to meet yourself on the mat.

I grew up mostly barefoot—my soles like little moccasins from running wild through the Northern California dirt. Even when I hit the mean streets of NYC for college, I refused to put on shoes until I learned about ringworm. Then I found yoga. And was sanctioned to be barefoot in public again.

Four decades later, I’ve learned that going barefoot doesn’t just feel good—it heals. It reduces cortisol, inflammation, and reconnects us to the ground beneath us.

I am incredibly honored to be working vivobarefoot to be bringing my first ever workshops to London. (Spread the word to anyone you know in the UK!)
