This event is created as a memorial event to celebrate friends and family members we’ve all lost and an opportunity to gather together as friends outside of seeing each other at funerals. Life is short, but the blessings and friendships are abundant! Patio Doors open at 6pm at Ogden Beer Company and although there’s a cost it includes dinner provided by the Ogden Beer Company. (Link to tickets in the comments) All proceeds go to the Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports non-profit benefiting disabled youth and adults to participate in sports they normally aren’t able to enjoy. Whelp… 😭 My youngest baby, Kenzie, started her first day of her junior year—which means I officially have less than two years before she’s a full-blown adult, making her own decisions… which terrifies me almost as much as it terrifies her. 😅 AND my oldest granddaughter, Chloe, had her first day of first grade! 💔 Tonight, my heart is heavy. Our parrot, Zachary, passed away. He was nearly 30 years old and has been part of our family since Paul and I first got together. My aunt hatched him. He was our oldest pet, and somehow I just always thought he’d be around forever. Zachary wasn’t just a bird—he was a character. Loud, opinionated, hilarious, and more human than most humans. He yelled at Paul-Michael and Bubba (Jazper) by name. He made baby Kenzie cry (more than once 😅), and he nailed my laugh so perfectly it could fool even me. When someone knocked on the door, he’d say “Come in!” When you left, he’d say “Bubye” like he owned the place. When Dre was younger and his friends were over all the time, they’d spend hours teaching Zach new things to say. When the phone rang, he’d say “Sarah, telephone!” like it was still 1997. 💁‍♀️I’ll miss his kisses, secrets he would whisper to me and how he likes to call himself a pretty bird My oldest daughter (Jazmine) was supposed to take him someday when we were too old to care for him. I really thought we had more time. I know some people might think it’s strange to grieve a bird, but if you knew Zach, you know why this hurts so much. He was family. A constant. A feathered force of chaos and joy who made our lives a little more entertaining—especially when he’d throw a tantrum to try and get Grammy (Jeanne) to give him a treat. 🙃 I’m so sad tonight. OK this might ruffle some fur… but let’s keep it kind, people. 😅 What are your honest thoughts on folks bringing their non-service dogs everywhere with them? I’m not talking about trained service animals—we love and respect those hardworking pups. 🐾 I mean family dogs who are just out living their best lives: at the farmers market, in the grocery store, walking through every booth like they’re the mayor of Dogtown. I’ve noticed so many this summer! There were dogs in strollers, dogs in backpacks, dogs sniffing everything (and everyone)… I even saw one snag food out of another person’s stroller like it was a self-serve buffet. 😳 Now, I get it—people love their pets (and trust me, I love a good dog snuggle too).
