🎤A huge thanks to everyone who attended “From Exchange to Engagement: Beyond Sakura Science Program: Exploring Higher Studies and Career Opportunities in Japan”
JST and the secretariat are elated to announce that the SSC Japan webinar of September 6 attracted around😆140 participants😆from various countries. It was one of the most interactive online events in recent years. The webinar focused more on how Sakura Science Club Japan is ready to help those wishing to study, work or do research in Japan🧐

After SSC Japan President Dr. Dyuti’s greeting, and brief introduction by each SSC Japan coordinator, Mr. Nico (SSC Japan Vice President) introduced the 🎓Sakura Mentor🎓system, which is a service for SSC alumni. Alumni can inquire ✍️the coordinators through SSC’s official website. There are currently seven Mentors from different countries and backgrounds.
The second session moderated by Mr. Rahul who welcomed three alumni speakers. Ms. Pham Ha Trang, currently a MEXT research student at Waseda University, spoke about having the courage to seize opportunities. Ms. Ju Yoon Hnin Bo (Ph D. Candidate, Kyoto University), Assistant Professor at the Institute of Advanced Energy of Kyoto University spoke about her new position related to the Free Electron Laser facility she has been working with, and Ms. May Myat Noe, (PhD Candidate-The University of Osaka) who will start working in industry after her degree, spoke about the unique job-hunting process in Japan.
In the last session moderated by Ms. Nusrat. (SSC Japan Vice President) Some questions by participants were taken up live, while some others were replied directly inside the Q&A box, by the most suitable coordinator. 2025-09-10 06:53:43 .. 49 -15% 0 -

Sakura Science Program🌸Alumni Reunion Held in Hat Yai, Thailand.
📅June 30 – July 2, 2025
Report by Prof. Takayo Kimiya, Dean, Faculty of Nursing, and Lecturer Kazuko Oka (Former Professor, Faculty of Nursing)
✈From June 30 to July 2, 2025, representatives from Fukuyama Heisei University (FHU) visited Prince of Songkla University (PSU) in Hat Yai, Thailand, to attend a reunion event for alumni of the “Sakura Science Program.” 🌸The visit also marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) 🤝between the two institutions.
FHU President Akio Fuji led the delegation, accompanied by Prof. Kiyomi Watanabe, Chair of the International Exchange Committee; Prof. Takayo Kimiya, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing; and Lecturer Kazuko Oka. The team traveled from Fukuoka to Hat Yai via Bangkok.✈️
Despite our late-night arrival, we received a warm and unexpected welcome at Hat Yai Airport. PSU nursing students who had previously visited FHU under the Sakura Science Program, along with faculty and staff, greeted us with heartfelt hospitality.
Highlights of the Visit😊

This visit was a reaffirmation of the strong relationship between 🌏FHU and PSU🌏, fostered through the Sakura Science Program. We look forward to further collaboration and continued cultural and academic exchange in the future. 2025-08-18 13:20:24 .. 87 +51% 0 -

On February 8, 75 members and friends in Thailand came together at the Cotton Room of Avani Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok to celebrate the 4th alumni meeting.🌸😊
Participants were drawn and listening intently to the panel discussion facilitated by coordinator, Associate Professor, Dr. Saharuetai (Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University). The knowledgeable panelists shared points and advice relevant to the younger alumni. 🎤
Dr. Thanakporn (International Relations Officer at National Institute of Metrology, Bangkok) mentioned that the ties made through SSP are still alive today, and that they are working closely. Dr. Pattanan (CEO of Dansai Group Company Limited at Southern Thailand Science Park, Songkhla) touched upon the importance of “setting a target goal” and to be “ready to face problems.” Dr. Kitti (Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Rajamangala University of Technology, Lanna) advised to always think what you would like to be doing in 3-5-years-time.
Once Dr. Siwat and Dr. Sompon started navigating the networking session in Thai language, the Cotton Room echoed with smiles, claps, and laughter. The fun word/phrase memory game allowed the contestants to work together on stage. Many members introduced themselves by stating which program they had participated in.😊
JST and the secretariat would like to immensely thank all the panelists, guest speakers and SSCT coordinator team headed by Dr. Orawan (Knowledge Management Manager & STEM Education Specialist, SEAMEO STEM-ED─The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization,─for such a concise yet motivational event!!🎉 2025-02-14 12:17:28 .. 55 -5% 0 -

Thanks to the efficient teamwork by ISSCA (India Sakura Science Club Alumni Association) coordinators across India, the 6th India alumni event of 18 January 2025 at Pride Plaza Delhi Aerocity was able to showcase the impressive and diverse paths taken by ISSCA alumni across borders. Almost 90 alumni and guests gathered at the venue to reconnect, gain insight and to network. ISSCA is now headed by Ms. Antara Puranik.
As the event survey showed, the sharing session where four alumni in different stages of life, scored the highest “likes” by the participants. The secretariat wishes to extend congratulatory thanks to Ms. Antim Nehra, Ms. Ananya Pothankunnath Ravi, Dr. Sumit Mehta, and Dr. Vaibhav Geeta Pankaj Mehta for sharing your profound journey.
Furthermore, Ms. Nandini, one of the ISSCA coordinators in India created a surprise-video 🎥depicting her recent journey to work in Japan last fall, as a software engineer. This video was shown during the special activity session.
Coordinators had also arranged a🧐 Kahoot quiz team competition🏆 that involves facts and cultural aspects of both India and Japan.
Prominent figures, who were present at the venue, all encouraged everyone to keep up the momentum of innovation and personal growth, friendly relations with Japan, borne through the Sakura Science Program.

A round of applause to all coordinators who actively directed and steered the event!😀 2025-01-27 10:46:03 Thanks .. 107 +85% 0 -
Happy 2025 to Everyone!😍✨
On December 21, 2024, the Candi Singasari Ballroom of the Grand Sahid Jaya lightened up with 110 participants and guests from various parts of Indonesia. Yes! It was the onsite alumni meeting hosted by SAAI (Sakura Science Alumni Association Indonesia) and JST.
People who could not come to the venue were able to view the event livestream, thanks to SAAI’s technical team. The event enjoyed the presence of H.E. Mr. Masaki Yasushi, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Indonesia, and Prof. Edy Giri Rachman Putra, Deputy Chairman for Human Resources at BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency).
SAAI had carefully curated the event so that speakers from different parts of Indonesia were represented. All speakers focused on what they want to attain in their future studies, career and research. With some moments for a bingo game and networking, the alumni were able to have some laid back conversation. We thank all coordinators, panelists and everyone who traveled far to support the event! 2025-01-14 14:33:48 Happy 2025 to Ever.. 140 +142% 0 -
Malaysia Alumni Reunite in Kuala Lumpur with Deeper Conversation Surrounding Circular Economy on Nov 23, 2024🌏
The alumni event in Malaysia was a striking success, attracting more than 100 participants. The presence of H.E. SHIKATA Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia at the venue was such a great honor for all the organizers and participants. Dr. Zamzam bin Mohd Walid, Director of the Curriculum Department from the Ministry of Higher Education enlightened us of Malaysia’s collective commitment in attaining a green society. Mr. FURUYA Keiji, President of Japan-Malaysia Parliament Friendship Association also congratulated the holding of the 4th MASSA reunion.
In the sharing session UKM Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Saiful Dzulkefly Zan, who used to be a post-doctoral researcher at Shibaura Institute of Technology introduced university-led initiatives taking place at UKM (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia).
This time, the event specifically featured a FGD (focus group discussion) session moderated by Prof. Dr. Latifah Abd Manaf. Each MASSA coordinators acted as facilitator at each round-table to discuss three types of questions. Summaries of each group were shared through Padlet. Each table was frankly able to talk about the event theme: “Circular Economy as a Climate Solution: Collaborative Initiatives from Government, Industry, and Academia to Empower Communities for Sustainable Development in Malaysia.”
The FGD served as a window to get to know other alumni who attended the event and eventually led to a very lively networking session. The event closed with a promise to meet up again in 2025😊 2025-01-14 14:22:44 Malaysia Alum.. 44 -24% 0 -
