Have you ever had Hotteok? Stacks on stacks ep.5 🥞 I heard about this place after diving down a rabbit hole of pancakes and had to add it to the series!! koreanmothersmeals is a small spot in Parkdale serving up Koreas fav street food! Of the three I tried here’s my ranking: 🥇 Red bean & Brown sugar 🫘 Earthy sweetness that caught me by surprise. Still carried the spirit of a pancake. 🥈 Buldak and cheese 🧀 It’s hard for me to turn down anything buldak. Plus the savoury aspect of it intrigued me. Definitely going back for more 🥉 Walnut & Brown Sugar Flavours were great! I did want a tiny bit more filling though. The ration on this one wasn’t my fav. Definitely gets an 8.5 from me though. I should have know how good it was going to be when walked into dessertfirst_bankstreet and had to wait about an hour for seating (it was my fault because I didn’t make a reso 🥲) The way these pancakes were made, it’s hard to describe but they brought back memories Sunday breakfast after church with my grandmother. Straight COMFORT (despite having to fight my cousins off for seconds 🤣) Taste: Rich thick pancakes with a crispy edge (which I LOVE). Stacks on Stacks ep 3: Soufflé Pancakes 🥞 I couldn’t run this series without stopping at fuwafuwaottawa to see what the viral soufflé pancakes were all about. Super airy, light and JIGGLY. The normal one had a strong egg taste but when you get the toppings on them the egg taste is a lot more subtle. We love a viral food trend and on first glance these really do their thing but these wouldn’t be my GO TO pancakes. Taste: ✅ fluffiest pancakes Ive ever had. Almost too airy 🤔 topped with the blueberry and other toppings definitely made it better Price: 🤔 $18 for 2 insanely fluffy pancakes ain’t terrible for the experience. I personally like pancakes that have a little more body and crisp to them. These were super interesting to try and had a good “mouth feel” 🤣 Overall, 7/10. STACKS ON STACKS: Ashta pancakes 🥞 Lots of you suggested mazarineottawa for the best pancakes so me and nate.t3 sprinted there to try em 🏃🏿‍♂️ 💨 Spoiler alert: you guys were onto something 🔥 I got the Ashta pancakes, and Nate got the tiramisu. Let me start by saying this…..from here on in I want Ashta on EVERYTHING. Taste: the pancakes were thick and more of a cake like consistency. THEY ALSO HAD THE SALTY EDGES 😍 which I love! The Ashta and honey were the perfect toppings, it made sure that the pancake wasn’t too dry but also added that subtle sweetness to it all. Tiramisu was good also but could have used a little bit more syrup to balance everything out. Price: $17 for two pancakes. IMHO they were pretty filling and so delicious so the price is just. Who says you can only have s’mores in the summer!? 🌞 windsorsalt is always my go to when I’m craving a sweet and salty treat, and the fine salt is PERFECT for this Skillet S’mores recipe: Ingredients - 1 bag of marshmallows - graham crackers - pretzels - Windsor Salt, fine - chocolate (chips or squares) Instructions: Line the bottom of your skillet with graham crackers. Top with marshmallows (evenly spread). Crush pretzels and sprinkle on top along with chocolate chips. Sprinkle of Windsor Salt. Throw in the oven or air fryer for a few minutes (I set mine at 425) until everything gets all melted. Secondly, let’s talk about these “hot cakes” Taste: ✅ fluffy and airy topped with the pistachio crema was like biting into clouds Price: 🤔 $25 for 5 pancakes ain’t that bad I don’t think. Especially when they’re good pancakes. What was missing: ❌🙅🏾‍♂️ this is more of a personal preference but there were no salty crispy edges 😩. As a kid that’s the only way I liked my pancakes, fried in salted butter to give that salty crispy edges edge with a nice fluffy inside. Overall, solid 9/10 for the blueberry crespelles. I’ll be the first to say that the quality and the look of the fall/winter collection is perfect. Touch of modern style with functionality. Best seafood spot in Ottawa? 🐟 🐙 I FINALLY got a chance to get to merivalefish and let me say one thing…..fresh is an UNDERSTATEMENT! Being from The Bahamas im definitely picky about my seafood so I was iffy about trying the dishes out. The octopus dish was 🤌🏾🤌🏾, super tender and insane flavours. Sushi and the calamari also slapped! Idk what the sauce was but it went perfectly with the calamari. Last but not least, the spicy margarita! Apparently they infuse the tequila itself with the peppers so it was WAY better than a basic margarita with some jalepenos floating around in it 😅.
