Mixing patterns can sometimes feel like a dark art but these not so obvious tricks help simplify things. - If in doubt introduce a stripe. It’s often the secret ingredient in a good scheme, the perfect middle ground between a plain fabric and a patterned fabric. I’d almost say it’s essential! - Stick with one main colour but vary the tone. You might think having lots of different shades of the same colour would clash but it actually makes for a very calming and interesting space. - Mix geometric and organic patterns e.g. a floral and a zig-zag. You NEED both in a scheme to stop it feeling too contrived. - Vary the scale of your patterns. You might think a small scale pattern is safer but a large scale pattern actually allows breathing space in amongst the busyness. When you don’t have space for a separate laundry room you have to get creative. I wanted our bathroom to feel calm and luxurious but it also needed to handle all the laundry of a family of five. So I designed it to work twice as hard. Lots of hidden storage and appliances, pull out laundry racks and a layout which meant it could do both at the same time. Although bespoke joinery is generally more expensive (unless you DIY) the beauty is that you can design anything you can dream up.
