I wanted to reintroduce myself to all our new followers - I am Paul Thornley and I’ve been teaching movement and manual (Neuro-Muscular) Therapy for many years.  I’ve been practicing Martial Arts since I was seven and as a soldier in the Royal Air Force I knew all about injury, insult and high performance. I also understand chronic pain and a lot of it is unnecessary if you know the keys. 

Understanding fascia from the anatomy lab and taking that knowledge into practice is shifting not only how we understand movement - but also how we recover, avoid injury and prevent it happening in the first place. It’s widely known how we understand the compartmentalization and distinct designation that is allocated to each part of the brain 🧠… however, movement isn’t an intellectual process, it’s an intuitive response that happens instinctively. 

You never ask the brains permission to react to a particular emotion or situation, you just do. 

Brains are not a preprogrammed system, we educate it and ourselves through our various interactions, experiences which our mental & physical developmental processes adapt to throughout our life times. 

Knowing that our primary sensory organ is our own quintessential myofascia matrix, has helped us comprehend this phenomena with more clarity. 

Recognizing the importance of the variations of sensory organs & nervous systems, that each have their own specialized properties and specific locations within the wholeness of our form, that ultimately collaborate to inform us of our very own unique proprioceptive and  interoceptive behaviors , helps us to refine how we feed ourselves with a more nutritious approach to instinctive responses and movement choices.

Why Myofascia Pilates challenges the current atrocious  approach to sharing the awesome modality that is Pilates !

Managing chronic pain is like managing your bank balance poorly. 

All treatments & recovery strategies are helpful & make you feel great! But non are truly addressing the issue. 

It’s like having gone overdrawn, getting a loan and feeling wealthy in the immediate future but avoiding how to create a more sustainable financial approach within the available resources you have.

If exercise is so healthy, why are the vast majority of participants managing injuries sustained whilst exercising ! 

Movement that requires medical & rehabilitation services so frequently is simply stupid & dysfunctional both mentally and physically.

However, it’s imperative that as educators we give students the foresight we’ve attained from our acquired hindsight, to manage the consequences of over indulging in flexibility, or worst succumbing to the ramifications of hyper mobility, which can ultimately bring an end to your movement style & potentially create career ending postural dysfunction.

Flexing the spine is as necessary as being able to open your eyes. 

However, how you go about doing it can be the cause of great dysfunction & discomfort. 

Establishing boundaries that you can use to refine your control within the micro sequence will ensure you have a far better chance of recognizing when things go pair shaped during more elaborate movement choices, allowing you to make adjustments instinctively to prevent potential damage or injuries occurring as they all to often do within the spine.

The amount of people suffering with pelvic issues is astronomical.

These conditions are not reserved for just the elderly within our communities, on the contrary, just about every age group of both men & women from their early 20’s suffer with some element of pelvic dysfunction, from incontinence, hemeroids, organ prolapse, prostrate, endometriosis, low back pain, breathing dysfunction, walking limitations or any array of postural or movement limitations you can imagine.
