First, I make a favorite taqueria staple, salsa de guacamole, which combines a tangy salsa verde with creamy avocadosfrommexico to give us the best of both worlds between salsa and guacamole. These Tlapiques were new to me when I first encountered them while we were in Mexico City for this season of #PatisMexicanTable. They are fish tamales made without masa and come from Xochimilco. The fish steams to flaky perfection in the corn husk, with a tangy/spicy nopalito, tomatillo, and jalapeño topping. You spoon the fish and topping in warm corn tortillas to eat. If you’re up for a project in the kitchen, you should tackle Tacos de Lengua en Salsa like Juju and I did in this week’s episode of #PatisMexicanTable. It is SO worth it! The lengua is cooked slow and low, then seared and finally quickly braised in the tastiest salsa martajada that has both tomatoes and tomatillos. You end up with the most succulent and melt in your mouth tender Tacos de Lengua ever. You have to trust me on this one... recipe link in bio. The first episode of my #PatisMexicanTable Mexico City season is out and, if you watch, then you’ll know this coffee cake. I was channeling the churros we ate at Churrería El Moro when I came up with it, and now it’s in constant rotation in my home for a breakfast treat, snack, or dessert. It’s soft, sweet and extra fluffy since I use egglandsbest eggs, which have 6 times more Vitamin D and 25% less saturated fat compared to ordinary eggs… so with the bonus of extra nutrition. It’s finished with a churro-inspired cinnamon-sugar crumble topping that has pecans for a delicious crunch and a generous drizzle of cajeta or dulce de leche because it’s my favorite for dipping churros. Some of the most nourishing food I’ve been lucky to eat was made by the inspiring Rarámuri community leaders Alejandro Hernández and Margarita González. It was a a gordita stuffed with beans and quelites. But as they say, the devil is in the details: the gordita was made with fresh nixtamalized corn kneaded on the spot by Margarita, stuffed with wholesome beans seasoned with jalapeños, hearty and woody wild quelites, all cooked in a wood fire stove. To boot, with the company or their beautiful, loyal and steadfast dog.

Very first time after 10 years, that my two fig trees give more than a couple figs! These past couple weeks we’ve been able to harvest anywhere from 30 to 40 figs. Each harvest more sweet and juicy than the last one. You know what they say: a sweet harvest takes more than a decade (why are there no fig emojis yet?)
