Statement on the U.S. Department of Education’s actions to carry out the presidential executive order declaring English the country’s official language.

We strongly condemn the U.S. Department of Education’s underhanded actions to remove critical learning supports for #emergentbilingual (EB) students.

The removal of the Department’s 2015 guidance threatens the educational rights of EB students, who comprise 44% of LA Unified’s student body, as well as school districts’ ability to ensure that EB students are properly assessed, evaluated, integrated, and supported through holistic programming towards the goal of becoming proficient in English.

Regardless of what comes out of Washington, D.C., we remain fully committed to providing a high-quality, affirming, and culturally responsive #education for every EB student.

We call on #schooldistricts to continue celebrating the unique identities and strengths of their students, uplifting multilingualism in #California, and upholding their legal and moral obligations to every student in our school systems. 2025-08-22 01:40:42 Statement on .. 35 +6% 0 -100%

This week marks back-to-school for Los Angeles’ students—a moment that is always filled with excitement and possibility. But for too many of our students and families, it’s clouded by fear: the lingering threat of ICE raids and unlawful immigration enforcement.

We at the PartnershipLA and LASchools are doing everything we can to support our students and provide some stability in the face of chaos. In June, our CEO Guadalupe Guerrero gave his thoughts in an EdSource piece on the real and lasting impact immigration enforcement has had on our district — and how we’re fighting for legislative changes to protect and support our immigrant students. Statement on the Passing of Wallis Annenberg from Melanie Lundquist, Co-Founder and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors

It is with great sadness that I mourn the passing of a dear friend and impactful mentor Wallis Annenberg. She opened my eyes and heart to the plight of LA’s historically underserved communities, which is one of the reasons that my husband Richard and I co-founded the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools. All of us at the Partnership deeply valued Wallis’ belief in and support of our mission as a donor and as an inspiring example of transformative giving.

I know she will be dearly missed, and the world is certainly a better place for her having been here. I thank her for her belief in the power of philanthropy. I hope she knows how much I admired and respected her. She changed the world through her generosity. 2025-07-29 00:08:42 Statement on the Pass.. 37 +12% 2 +61%
