12 months ago on this day I went for a 10 hour operation where I was cut open, had all the blood drained from my body 7 times and ended up with a hypoxic brain injury. It’s been a hell of a year but I’m so grateful for every day I can wake up and run or walk without passing out, because 12 months ago I couldn’t walk 50m without becoming so short of breath and now I can run/ walk 5kms. I have had 1.5 years of hell, every day has been a challenge, from not knowing if I’d die that day from my swelling heart to not being able to get my words out. But I am so happy to be on the other side of it all! Even though my speech still isn’t great I’m able to talk in sentences and sing songs. I am so proud of myself for starting to run again as this was my biggest goal. In Feb last year I ran 10m with Nate and fell unconscious for a couple of minutes. It was the scariest feeling I’ve ever experienced until the worst morning 6 months later I woke up from surgery and overheard the surgeon telling my mum that I have a hypoxic brain injury. Thank you to everyone who has been there for me! __dkota__ thank you for being the best friend I could ever ask for, and being my running buddy! To xcharlie_hedge , thank you for taking me to all the appointments and protecting me from all the dangers, and for giving me one strawberry lolly a day, and for building my bookshelves when I almost broke my arm. To keischab , thank you for always being there to talk to me, being my biggest defender, looking out for me, all our breakfast dates and for the holidays where we act like menaces. Thank you so much to everyone I haven’t even met but you’ve shown me such kindness and love and support I genuinely don’t think I’d be here if it wasn’t for you all! Love you all and here’s to another 12 months of progress and living life!
