QUITE THE CONTROVERSY! I think I will call this the Sober Daphne! Recipe in the video! The Painkiller cocktail originated in the Virgin Islands and was created by Daphne Henderson, owner of the Soggy Dollar Bar in the 1970s. It actually caused quite a fuss after Pusser’s Rum trademarked the drink name and recipe in 1989! Mind you, Pusser’s didn’t CREATE the cocktail… Charles Tobias just really, really LIKED the drink when he visited the Virgin Islands and came up with a version of his own after Daphne wouldn’t give him the recipe! A lawsuit was filed in 2011 by Pusser’s against Painkiller, a popular NYC bar, for using the Painkiller name and NOT using Pusser’s Rum. Bartenders far and wide boycotted Pusser’s for the dispute, but the bar ultimately settled with Pusser’s and renamed their drink PKNY, assumingly an acronym for Pain Killer New York.
