Kevin just discovered an underwater world off the coast of Alabama's Beaches! 🐠 (I didn't go with him, I'll admire the ocean from a beach chair, thanks) If you're into scuba diving, you should check out Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, AL! Are we jumping through too many hoops to save a little on flights? 🤔 Here's why we do it ⬇️ Every time we've looked at flights from Atlanta to State College, they've been $500+ per person. There's no direct flight from ATL, so we would always have to do a layover, which would make our travel day really long. But then I found this super cheap flight on Contour Airlines out of Charlotte to Altoona, PA, which includes free checked bags and free carry-on (this was great in the winter when I wanted to check my figure skates), plus massive amounts of leg room, a practically empty flight, and free in-flight snacks. And the flight is less than 2 hours. Sure, it takes 4.5 hours to get to Charlotte, but we just drive that after work, so it doesn't feel like we're giving up a lot of our day. Then it's a 1 hour drive to State College, but that's an easy drive (and we always need a rental car anyway since we explore all of Happy Valley) This way, we can get into State College at mid-day and have more time to explore. And leaving is so easy because the Altoona airport is so small (no big TSA line, it's just the people on your flight!). So we get the maximum amount of time in Happy Valley. ➡️ What do you think? Would you go through all this for a cheaper flight? If it were just me flying, I would probably pay for the flight into State College. What's the most beautiful hotel you've ever stayed at? We were just #hosted for a little staycation at The Candler Hotel (thecandlerhotel) in Atlanta, and this Beaux-Arts-style hotel is absolutely gorgeous! The building was constructed in 1906 by Asa Candler, of Coca-Cola fame. It was originally offices, and at the time this was the tallest building in Atlanta. It opened in 2019 as The Candler Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton We stayed in a city-view suite (y'all know I'm a sucker for a skyline view) with a huge soaking tub (they even provided bath salts) For dinner, we ate at By George (bygeorgeatl), the on-site restaurant named for the building's architects. Had a great time exploring Roswell, GA the other day with some fellow Atlanta travel writers! 🥾 We visited Old Mill Park where we saw the ruins of Roswell Manufacturing Company Mills and the adorable covered pedestrian bridge that crosses Vickery Creek 🏡 Toured Bulloch Hall (bullochhall), a Greek Revival mansion owned by one of the founders of Roswell and also where Teddy Roosevelt's mother grew up 🍜 Ate at 1920 Tavern (1920_tavern), which has a 1920s speakeasy vibe; I had the Sesame Encrusted Seared Tuna, which was delicious 💙 And walked along Canton Street, the heart of Downtown Roswell It was such a fun time, and I can't wait to go back and explore some more! But this trip, we got sunny days, scenic hikes, mountain views, flowers in bloom, warm sunsets, and more goats than I'd bargained for! 1-2. How about 4? 👩‍🎨 Last weekend was the most art-ful time of the year in Happy Valley, PA with 4 different arts festivals across the county! #sponsored 🎨 The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is the big one (photos 1-5), with a sidewalk sale with independent artists from across the country, live music, food vendors, and more. We participated in their Puppet Parade, which is a fun tradition where you can put on a papier-mâché puppet and march from Old Main Lawn to Sidney Friedman Park. 🖼️ The People's Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts (photo 6) is another popular one that focuses more on local and regional artists.
