STAGE SUNDAY ✨ Harmful coaches that mislead their first time female athletes is one of the biggest reasons why I became a coach myself.

Apparently, the magic formula for a first-time female competitor is: a next to nothing calorie diet, no carbs, hours of stair master double digit weeks out from a show, cutting sodium and water on peak week… oh, and don’t forget that drug stack you didn’t ask for 🙃

Who needs basic nutrition knowledge and an appropriate training program when you got a short-lived business to run and you gotta show how many competitors you can put on stage!!!

What is the cost of that? It’s nothing on them because they got paid, but now we have an athlete who just came out of a program that really should have been called “Wreck your hormones in 12 weeks or less!” 

❕A message to my first time competitors out there or any ladies out there thinking of competing in bodybuilding:

👏🏼Do your due diligence and interview coaches thoroughly. If anyone promises they can put you on stage in 12 weeks without first investing time to work with you through a building phase, get your labs drawn, learn about your training and nutrition history, and offers things for you to take because they “will help”, that is predatory behavior and a walking 🚩 

It’s heartbreaking 💔 how common it is STILL TO THIS DAY to see first-time female competitors get absolutely wrecked after working with a coach who put them through extreme, reckless protocols. 

These methods don’t just take away the joy of competing…they can cause lasting damage to your health - mentally and physically.

🪄THE TRUTH IS that you can step on stage without destroying your body in the process. Competing should be challenging, yes — but never reckless. It is never a bad idea to take your time when it comes to this sport and who’s guiding you.

7.28.2025 was my breast augmentation surgery in Bogotá, Colombia and it could not have been a more smooth procedure. Thank you so much again to drhenriquedelapena and his team for making this process as simple and comfortable as possible!

This was my first surgery, so I truly did not know what to expect, but I still knew at the end of the day that all was going to go well. And it did 🎉

Despite the anesthesia absolutely kicking my ass, this surgery was truly not as uncomfortable as I thought it could possibly be.

ENHANCING MY FEMININE ENERGY

I’ve always gone back and forth from feeling insecure about my smaller chest to not caring too much about it. I’ve also gone back and forth for the longest time about getting an augmentation and when I’d get one.

No, if you’re a bodybuilding athlete you do not have to get an augmentation to do well in the sport. There are many athletes out there who have done well and beyond with a natural chest.

For me, I knew it would only help my physique but also I wanted to make sure that I was making the choice for me and not because I thought I had to.

After my last season, I was the most insecure about my small chest than I’d ever been before and it was then that I knew I was going to get it done. I was as certain as ever that I never wanted to feel that way again, as being stage lean is already an uncomfortable feeling.

PART TWO of getting my boob job in📍Bogota, Colombia

Part of a having healthy post op recovery process is making sure your body is healthy❕

This means getting lab work done at least 1 month before the surgery (your surgeon will communicate with you on timelines and markers to pull) and making sure your immune system is bulletproof proof.

For me, I had to get my fasted glucose levels, iron levels, vitamin C levels, and PT and PTT levels checked at least 1 month prior to surgery and I also made sure to get an IV with Vitamin C and glutathione before I flew down to really bullet proof my immune system.

Keep your stress low, follow all instructions that are asked of you prior to surgery, and control what you can control for a safe recovery process ✨

Depends how you look at it and who you’re asking. If you look at it however through the proper lens, you know you didn’t lose at all and there are multiple reasons for this.

You didn’t miss your pro card because the universe is against you. You are not entitled to a pro card just because you have a social media following or because you’re coached by a certain coach or team. You didn’t place how you did because the judges are out to get you or are holding something against you.

Your mindset and your work ethic are the foundational tools necessary to make you into a great bodybuilding athlete. That’s on you, not anyone else.

5th place finish for ferozphysiques athlete courtneylmanning_ out of a class of 10 stacked athletes at npcjrnats this weekend and at her FIRST national show 🎉 

One year ago I stepped on stage for my national stage debut at this show…….and one year later I come back in the coach’s role. The nerves are DEF on a whole other level 😂

Courtney started with me as a lifestyle client in 2021 and when she told me that she was interested in competing, I knew she had the potential for the sport. 

Seeing her reach her goals this weekend has made me SO proud, as both a coach and a friend.

GLUTE GROWTH 101, JOJO’S VERSION 🥵

OoHhHH NooOOoO another tone deaf post about glutes as an excuse to expose the booty……
I get it because I am tired of those too. Hence why you next to never see these kinds of posts from me.

I don’t post things for the sake of it though. There is a point (most of the time) to anything I post or say on social media and this is one of those times.

I wasn’t gifted with genetically dominant glutes. I honestly have always had a nice shape to them…but the size of them? THEY HAVE TAKEN FOREVER TO GROW.

But I have truly learned a few things in my glute growth journey, so here are those things in the short version:

1️⃣ TRAIN THE ENTIRE PEACH 🍑 
You see the meat that is the glute max, but don’t forget about the glute medius and minimus. Just like how you got 3 parts to the deltoid, in order to maximize your training performance and enhance your glute shape, you gotta train all parts of the glute.

2️⃣ SLOW DOWN. ⏰
Muscles respond to stimulus, which means take opportunities within your training to manipulate the time you’re applying load to the glutes. Eccentric, Isometric, and Concentric phases can all work harmoniously together if you program your training properly.

3️⃣ KNOW YOUR VARIATIONS 💪🏽
You do not have to do barbell back squats, barbell hip thrusts, or Bulgarian split squats if your body is genuinely limited to some capacity to perform these. This does not mean you eliminate the movement pattern all together. Machine variations exist now to make squats and hip thrusts more enjoyable. Step ups and reverse lunges exist. Stop demonizing exercises and instead get familiar with what feels good for your personal biomechanics.

4️⃣ CLEAN IT UP 🧹 
There is no such thing as a bad exercise, just bad form. Hip thrusting hundreds of pounds isn’t impressive if your form is trash. Learn how to make light weight feel heavy and that is when you become a better lifter.

Trust that there is a lot more involved once you get recovery and nutrition in the mix.

#STAGESUNDAY ✨ a harsh reality about bodybuilding prep that one will only understand once you have experienced it. the double edge sword feeling of grinding to a point of leanness where the physical results are proof of your dedicated efforts, but the mental place you get to when you’re there….it isn’t for the weak.

My favorite part of being a bodybuilding athlete? A contest prep has been THE experience that taught me what true discipline was. I understand what it means to keep your head down and stay in your lane, thanks to bodybuilding. This sport has taught me what true patience and resilience is. It isn’t a lesson I could learn through anything else.

The trade off? You get to a state of being that I can only describe as becoming “a shell of yourself”. You’re there, but you’re not. You’re simply existing in your skin.

This is one of the things that I did not know I would experience before I stared competing, so have this serve as a heads up of what’s to come when you get to depths a bodybuilding prep.

Mental strength carries more weight (pun intended) and it’s the practice of mental discipline that breeds the true athletes.

April was a month where I became deeper rooted in turning my vision into a reality about becoming a leader that others can look up to.

Getting into the fitness industry happened completely by accident for me…..

I wasn’t looking to get involved into this world, but life circumstances kept showing me that my strengths, physically, mentally, and emotionally could only be taken to new heights through it.

What first became a hobby became a way of life, which became a way of a career, which became a way of teaching and mentoring, which became everything that stood for who I believe myself to be.

This industry gave me my husband wickedsmhart 
This industry gave me some of my best friends.
This industry gave me bodybuilding.
This industry gave me community.
This industry also gave me stronger discipline, patience, and mental toughness.

I know in my heart and in my gut that my purpose is to teach others how they can be their own tool, their own source of power to become their best version of themselves.

This is because I never had someone like that for me growing up. If I did, I would most likely be someone completely different. Maybe I would have made different choices….

But ultimately, being the trainer, coach, influence in the fitness world and the local Tampa Bay community that I want to be, I need to be my most authentic self and say yes to opportunity when it is presented to me.

#STAGESUNDAY ✨ I remember my first ever posing session 😅 and by first ever session, I mean literally looking up routines on YouTube and copying what I saw LOL….a great example of what NOT to do.

Having competed in 11 shows, as I’ve grown more into my role as a contest prep coach, I carried more weight in how much properly guiding my athletes really means to me. This includes making sure they step up on stage for their first ever show looking the part of being up there.
