OLDEST COAL OVEN

Oldest working coal oven in the western hemisphere built in 1890 by Germans and taken over by Sicilains in the 1940s. The neighborhood was very Sicilian at the time.

Lucky Charlie luckycharliebk
📍254 Irving Ave, Bushwick , Brooklyn

This oven is insane! It's huge!
One of the pizza peels is 18 feet 7 inches!!

The oven is fired up with coal from Pennsylvania and a sight to see!
Those flames can reach 1,000 degrees!

The oven runs under the sidewalk from the entrance to the street.

The food here is on point! Pizza is among the best in NYC.

All their hot dishes are cooked in the coal oven

When you go, definitely get their seafood platter. It has shrimp oreganata, clams casino, oysters rockefeller, and octopus.

This spot has old school vibes, a neighborhood spot, folks chillin on the sidewalk, and open late. You can get pizza almost until they close.

The cocktails are on point. They make dishes with figs from their backyard, like the fig sorbet.

They have one of the best pizzaiolos gegorio_dsmiano in town dishing out the pizza, and Chef Lexi, bug.on.a.rug, is killing it with flavors. Rob, their beverage director, is making some great cocktails robdhoffman

Nino, the owner, is a pizza legend.

This was a great Egyptian seafood feast with a couple of friends. imma_eat_this solissecrets

Lobster tails, giant shrimp , scallops, fish, octopus, fried shrimp ,oysters, couple of veggies, and dips with fresh steaming pita

We got there right before the rush around 5:30 pm. Place gets full fast

They have two floors and outdoor seating.

We picked out the seafood in the back, and they prepared it with Egyptian spices.

Service was pretty fats considering the crowd

That large shrimp , which looked like a mini lobster with the spices and stuffing, was unique

STUFFED PIGEON IN LITTLE EGYPT

Came through to try the stuffed pigeon and ended up having three very traditional Egyptian dishes.

📍 Al Quds
25-75 Steinway St, Astoria , Queens

This was a great experience and an unexpected cool dining space in the back.

This grocery store and restaurant has a variety of Egyptian dishes.

Hamam.stuffed pigeon . Stuffed with rice, boiled and shallow fried.

Roz Mohamer. traditional baked rice dish named cooked with milk, cream and butter. It's rich flavorful, buttery with a crisp baked exterior with really tender meat.

Hawashi a crispy fried dough filled with meat.

Big thank you to Mohammed behind the counter who patiently explained the dishes to me.

STREET FOOD LITTLE EGYPT

Exploring little Egypt brings me to this charcoal grill cart. They are open from 2 pm to 6 am and dishing out grilled meats.

📍Watany Grill
25-78 Steinway St, Astoria, Queens

Beef and lamb kebab sandwiches, grilled whole chicken and even lamb chops all fresh from their own butcher counter at the back of the grocery store.

You can even get a side of noodle or spinach soup or rice with Egyptian spices.

My favorite was the kebab sandwich layered with tomato lettuce tahini sauce and white sauce. It was on a type of bread that you can only find in this neighborhood. This so hit the spot and drooling thinking about it now.

It was seasoned well and that combo of tahini and white sauce was perfect.

Big thank you to Eslam for serving us at Watany and to my friend Soli for explaining everything to me in the neighborhood. solissecrets

EGYPTIAN PIZZA, FETEER

Going here was definitely dinner and a show

📍Mum Feteer 25-48 Steinway St, Astoria, Queens, NY

Asked my friend Soli, who's Egyptian, to help me explore Little Egypt.

The staff here have fun with the customers.

Feteer is a pizza like dish very popular in Egypt. Made with a dough similar to filo It's stretched like crazy and stuffed with your choice of savory or sweet fillings and baked for about 6 minutes.

We got the popular mixed one stuffed with ground beef , pastrami, sausage called sogok, veggies, mozzarella , jack cheese, tomato and olives. Sugok is a beef sausage.

It was hot cheesy, meaty filled with flavor . It's like a meat pie with tons of flavor. The dough was thin but still held together.

We also had a sweet one stuffed with custard and topped with Pistachios . This was really good too. Irs softer.

Big thank you to the owner Ahmed and his staff Rasha, Islam and Hasan.

Get a taste of an ancient Egyptian dish at Mum Feteer in little Egypt.

Stay tuned to my next stop in Little Egypt.

HELL'S KITCHEN VENEZUELAN SPANISH FUSION

A cozy spot dishing out great unique flavors run by a husband and wife team chefs Lorena and Alex

📍744 9th Ave, Manhattan

ezpaella

I found this spot about 3 weeks back and really glad I went in.

It's called EZ Paella as they make it quick within 15 minutes, not 30 or 45 minutes, as it would in a traditional Spanish restaurant.

Their take on paella is very different from what I'm used to in the traditional Spanish way with a socarat. Their pallela I think is one of the best in the City!

Their fun take on a pallela burrito is a flavor bomb. You can have any one of their 8 paella as a burrito.

The sautéed meatball,Albondigas Ardientess, is a sleeper hit!

These were the dishes I had
Seafood pallela
Chicken paella
Pallela Beef burrito
Pallela chicken burrito
Scallops in a garlic sauce
Albondigas Ardientes: sauteed meatballs marinated and sauteed in EZ Spicy Sauce

BEST BIRIYANI NEW YORK, HELLS KITCHEN DAY 3

Underground spot rated in the top 100 restaurants in NYC 2024 and recommended by Michelin guide.

They have a variety of dishes. However, the most popular is the Biriyani.

📍Hyderabadi Zaiqa
366 W 52nd St, Manhattan, NY
Hells Kitchen neighborhood
hyderabadizaiqanyc

Biriyani is a highly seasoned meat and rice dish and arguably one of India’s national dishes. There are a variety of ways of preparing this dish depending on the region of India. Dum is a cooking technique where the biryani is sealed in a pot and cooked over low heat, allowing the flavors to meld and steam, resulting in a more flavorful and aromatic dish.

Generally served for special occasions from weddings to birthdays now common to have everyday.

Chef Tarique and his business partner Jayesh showed me how they make the goat biriyani following his grandmother's recipe.

I did not know about the multilayer rice process. The whole experience in their kitchen was great! So grateful to these very humble folks to showing me around and treating me to this fabulous dish.

My friend Arun put me on to them when they first opened and it took me over a year to get there listen2arun

And now I've been twice a month and raken briitani to a bunch of non Indian friends who love it!

They also make vegetarian biryani following a similar process.

2,400 GUESTS ATE AT THIS WEDDING RECEPTION

Every part of India has a different way of doing weddings. This is a South Indian Christian wedding.

This was a fun time with family, and the food was deeeeelish!

Weddings are done a little differently here. There's a huge wedding hall all decked out. Guest line up to congratulate the couple and give gifts while at the same time food is being served. Guests just come and go. They had a separate room for non vegetarians and one for vegetarians and a room with desserts.

There's a crew that serves each dish on to banana leaves. Yes, India has been doing sustainability for a long time! There are huge pots filled with goat biryani, the main dish. It's not a wedding without biriyani! And it better be good.

There were 10 dishes served on a banana leaf, including goat biriyani. There were two types of chicken, crab lollipops, chicken and lamb meatballs, egg popovers, raita, egg plant a variation of bread pudding called bread sweet and paratha with a chicken curry and that's just the non vegetarian menu. And you can eat as much as you want no limit.

Everything was deelish and finger licking good.

And when you're done, you close the leaf towards you, and they clear out for the next seating.

Each seating had about 200 to 300 guests at a time. I heard they actually fed a little over 2,400 guests that night. Wow! And of course, I had some fun with fam in the photo booth. Indian weddings are an experience.

I hope you liked this little insight of an Indian wedding reception.

Congratulations, Jenny and Kevin
And big thanks to my cousins and nephews for helping me capture these moments.

Same clown, but spicer. I was in India for a wedding and went to check out McDonalds with fam.

Fried chicken

Korean food is big here in South India. They had a Korean chicken sandwich on the menu.

Also got a bag of fried chicken, which was actually pretty good. Never had fried chicken at McDonalds.

It was definitely an experience trying this. Lot spicer that I expected. Don't know why every sandwich had to have a high heat level. My fam who live there said it was spicy for them!!

This was a great experience with two world-renowned chefs collaborating to present unique dishes in this incredible setting.

Dining at Ilis is an experience . It's a unique take and presentation of dishes in an open kitchen.

I've never dined at Alinea, but to experience dishes from the former Executive Chef was pretty cool. We also got to meet the chefs in the kitchen at the end of the night for a shot.

Alinea is a highly regarded restaurant in Chicago.

This was a 4 hour dinner that ended after midnight.
Was it worth it. Yes, it was. Was every dish for my palate? No, it wasn't. But to see the creativity and taste flavors that were unique was phenomenal.

My buddy Sergio, a ringer for Pedro Pascal, loved it as well. 🙏🏻 for the assait srggrrr

FAVORITE BRAZILIAN DISHES – DAY 3

Today’s stop: Beco in Williamsburg — and we’re diving into Feijoada, Brazil’s national treasure.
becobar

This soulful stew simmers low and slow for 8 hours with smoky pork and hearty black beans. It’s served up with fluffy rice, garlicky sautéed collard greens, zesty pico de gallo, farofa (crispy toasted yucca flour), and orange slices for that perfect finish. 🍊

The move? Spoon that tender meat over the rice, sprinkle on the farofa, and dig in. No rules — just comfort food at its finest.

Feijoada is all heart: rich, warm, layered with flavor and texture. The pork melts in your mouth, and the creamy sauce clings to every grain of rice. That farofa crunch? Chef’s kiss.

Beco hits the spot with chill vibes, solid cocktails (get the caipirinha), and other standouts like the coxinha and their killer steak sandwich.

FAVORITE BRAZILIAN DISHES – DAY 2
This one might be my all-time favorite. I first had it in Brazil years ago — fell in love instantly — and I’ve been chasing that flavor ever since.

Enter: Moqueca at Berimbau in the West Village.
They’ve got two NYC locations, but this one’s at
📍43 Carmine St., Manhattan.
berimbau_nyc

This stew is pure coastal comfort — a rich, velvety broth made with coconut milk, dende (palm) oil, tomatoes, ginger, citrus, and a mix of fresh seafood: halibut, shrimp, mussels, and squid. 🌊🫶
(Each region in Brazil does it a little differently — that’s part of the magic.)

It’s served with fluffy white rice and farofa — toasted cassava flour with a coarse crunch that adds texture and depth.
Pro tip: layer it like this — rice, stew, then farofa — and mix it all up. The flavor payoff is next level.

Huge shoutout to the incredible Berimbau team and Chef Lorenzo for their warm hospitality — and for letting us film this reel in their beautiful space. 🙏🏼

And to my amazing friend Brigitte, who always brings the vibes and makes shoot days a blast. 📷💛

This is a great comforting dish and went great with a glass of vino.

Check out Compagnie in SOHO and get this dish before it leaves the menu.

Compagnie is a great neighborhood wine bar on the border of Little Italy, Soho and Chinatown. It's always a great vibe here. All the the dishes hit and the staff are the best!

The dishes do seasonaly change and the chefs get very creative with each season.
