- And just like that, a New York minute brought me straight back to 1999 when I was an artsy weird girl just like Rachel Leigh Cook pre-makeover 💋 #shesallthat #sixpencenonethericher #90sthrowback #rachelleighcook #partylikeits1999 #nycsubway #newyorkersbelike #nycstreets #nycstreetperformer🎭 #nycbuskers
- Today coulda/shoulda/woulda been my dad’s 80th birthday. Instead it’s been almost exactly 6 months to the day that we lost him in a car accident. It was the 4th day of my parents’ annual summer road-trip. They drove from San Francisco to Maine pretty much every summer. My dad loved these trips so much, he looked forward to them all year and while he was on the road there was a considerable extra pep in his step. He spend his last day on earth hiking the Colorado Rockies, admiring mountain wildflowers flowers and the gorgeous vista views. It brings me comfort to say he died doing what he loved. Good grief do I miss him terribly. ❤️ My goofball daddy who would make up rousing ditties while he did the dishes every night. Who clipped out favorite comics from the newspaper and mailed them to me ever since I moved away from home. Who would collaborate with my toddler scrawlings to create delightful “Dada/Baba” works of art. It’s not a side most people saw. You might have known him recently as the serious senior hogging the copy machine at the SF public library, sourcing materials for intricate collage art pieces he was always working on. Or the gruff grandpa at the Royal Ground cafe on Polk Street who came everyday, ordered a triple espresso and sat in his favorite chair for hours to work on his book. Or the blur who would run, later bike, past you on the SF Marina Green in a routine that was so consistent you might recognize him from the same time last Thursday and think, wow, look at that old guy go. Not so recently, as the cool-cat hippy who climbed mountains and might have tripped around the world. Always as the incredibly loyal family man who loved anyone at all related to him so fiercely. I was ever so lucky to have him as my father. Love you always, Dad. ❤️❤️❤️ If you have any stories or memories of my father Rockwell Townsend, my mom and I always love to hear them.
- Styling my dad’s grooviest shirt on the 1 year anniversary of his death because…. It felt right and just a little bit like a hug? Would love to hear any advice or experience about handling parent death anniversaries as I’m both lucky and unlucky to be new at this❤️
