*Long post alert* For all of you who don't know, I have 2 daughters. A 6 and half year old and a 4 month old. I breastfed my older daughter for almost 11 months. It is not as long as some people do, but in my head it is long enough. And when I finally weaned her, I was super happy that I was done. No more sore nipples, no more clogged ducts, no more leaks! Mind you, I exclusively breastfed her for all 11 months. No pumping! So you can understand why I was so happy. My breasts were gonna be just mine again! Also, I was content that I stayed on the journey for 11 long months even though I wanted to give up several times. But, when I was pregnant with my second daughter, all I could think of was to breastfeed her and how I could do better than last time despite knowing all the pain and struggle it was going to bring me. When I finally gave birth and breastfed her for the first time, I felt like a pro. I did it once, I can do it again. I got this. Little did I know that I hadn't got it and no, it was not going to be like the previous time. My milk supply did not come in early this time and all the time we were in the hospital she needed a top feed and when I came home she needed the top feed for a couple of more days and then my supply kicked in. I started the breastfeeding journey with all the necessary diet, supplements and all that I needed to do. I was feeding on demand and having a let down on one side when I was feeding on the other, so I was collecting and storing it. And in between feeds I had to pump as I was feeling heavy and in pain. This made me feel happy and I was secretly feeling very proud of my body for doing this as it did not happen with my first child. There was no collecting or storing. I was super proud that this time the journey could be longer as I would be collecting milk. Then came the first-month appointment with the doctor for the baby. And that's when my journey just went south! Doc said that the baby was not putting on enough weight and I needed to introduce formula. So he asked me to alternate feed. You would think it is the same body going through the same process it should be the same journey and outcome, BUT... It is not! Both my pregnancy journeys were completely different yet beautiful and memorable in their own way. I had a normal delivery for the first and C section for the second. The post partum phase was completely different too. I struggled a lot after the normal delivery. I felt the recovery period for me was very tough. On the other hand, I felt the recovery period for the 2nd one was much better and faster. I am talking about the initial 1 month. I still have not recovered completely. As they say, it takes 6 months to 1 year for the body to go back to what it was pre pregnancy. (Just not the shape😉) While I endured all the struggles for 9 months and then the process of labor, both my babies came out looking like their Dad. Now tell me, how is this fair! A new chapter for Reya and me.. she started learning kathak. And Friday was a special day, it was the day we did gungroo puja and she danced with them. My heart was full. In the last one year I noticed she liked dancing and took interest. So we thought we would give it a shot for a month and see if she is interested. Turns out she was. Even though it is online classes she really is enjoying them and all day recites her dance ke bol. I had 2 things in mind when we started this dance. 1. If she is not interested we will not force her to continue. 2. If I do find that she is interested then I will encourage her and ensure she gives her best. I sit with her in her 1 hour class so that I can help her practice later. So in a sense I am learning something new too. And I am loving it. This was the first time we took Reya out after the pandemic hit us... It was scary there was a constant fear in the mind.. but it was something we could not skip and really needed to go out... I had prepared a kit to take out with us that had water, food, sanitizer, wipes.. etc.. .. She understood the importance of wearing a mask and was super good with it. She hardly took it out for the 3 hours we were out with her... The new normal is here to stay and is best to be prepared.. .. This mask is from amazondotin . In these covid times managing house, entertaining kids, cooking, cleaning... The tasks are endless.. so I decided to make palak gravy in bulk and store in the fridge also because the palak was going to go bad and wasting food in current times is a crime (it always is a crime!!) Hence made it in bulk... Today I used a spoon of this to make palak dal (1 cup)... It just made my life so much easy... I also made a batch of Tomato puree to ensure it would stay for long and help me with quick cooking.... .. Every parent has a different take on screen time. Some give it to clam kids down or during meal time or as an activity. Each to their own. We do have screen time for Reya. It is split between phone and TV. There was a time when she would always want a phone is her hand to watch something and it went out of hands.. but we did manage to cut it down a lot.. we deleted the YouTube app which is what she used to watch and told her it's broken. We prefer it to be TV as she sits on the sofa and watches and there is good distance to the screen where as if it's a phone she hold it too close to her eyes.. we are ok with her having a screen time as she has had lot of good learnings by watching them.. However we do wish to reduce the screen time.. this is something we have to work towards.. .. ..
