Joseph Pilates never said classical.
He called it Contrology.

So why do we say Classical Pilates now?

Because after Joe’s death, and after a messy court battle in the 90s, the industry needed a way to protect the work and differentiate it from trainings with no real depth.

And that’s what classical really is:
✨ A system, not choreography.
✨ Lineage passed directly from Joe through his students.
✨ The layering, the order, the apparatus, and the education that holds it all together.

As one of my followers said: Pilates doesn’t need to be understood, it needs to be felt. 👏

This is exactly why our teacher training starts with history and lineage. If you don’t understand the system, you’re not teaching Pilates.

👉 If you haven’t made this month’s training but want to know more, reach out for a chat.

✨ A Gifted Place at The Vision Reset ✨

I was meant to be at the evamoso_wellness Vision Reset next Thursday (12–4pm), but due to last minute changes I can’t attend. I’m gutted, but it’s not all 😪 because I get to gift my place to one of you.

This isn’t just an event. It’s an immersion for visionary women who feel ready for their next chapter, craving clarity, alignment, and a space to pivot into something new.

If you think this feels like you, or someone you know, comment below and Jenny will be in touch on Friday.

This is an invitation-only event, with only a handful of places in the room.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign, this could be it. 💫 2025-09-09 20:33:08 ✨.. 35 -98% 8 -93%
“But I’m classical.”

I hear it all the time.
And more often than not… it isn’t true.

The real issue?
Training companies are marketing their programmes as “classical” when what they’re actually selling is their interpretation. Their brand. Their choreography.

One of my new trainees asked a leading UK academy (with a global reputation) if their training was classical. They said yes.
But when she pushed: ‘Will this qualify me to teach in a classical studio?’ — the answer was no.

👉 That’s not classical.
👉 That’s not transferable.
👉 That’s misleading.

If you want to just teach Reformer, fine, contemporary works for that.
But don’t think you’ve trained in the system Joseph Pilates created.
Because without the full system, you’re not classical.

So …. question, would your certificate hold up in a classical studio, lets see 👇 2025-09-01 22:44:39 .. 503 -68% 126 +3%
Loving all the messages and questions from everyone - I could spend all day answering them (one day I hope 🤣). This one from hpox applies to all areas of the studio and mat and is crucial when advancing clients to the rowing series.

The opposition in Pilates plays a crucial role and without it we can’t find lift, length and the all important movement.

Reps don’t make a method. Education does.

Pilates isn’t something you complete.
It’s something you grow through.

It’s not just a series of exercises.
It’s a system.
And when it’s taught with structure, progression, and purpose, it doesn’t just sculpt bodies.
It changes them.

But if all we give people is fatigue without understanding,
Reps without results,
We’re not honouring the work.

We’re just repackaging fitness.

👇 Tell me honestly,
Are we still teaching Pilates?
Or are we just performing it? 2025-07-24 22:27:04 Reps.. 683 -56% 72 -41%
Why modern reformer classes are missing the point?

You don’t level up in Pilates because you’re bored or trying to look good.
You progress because your body is ready.
Because you built the foundation, followed the order and earned the next exercise through the method the understanding and the control.

That’s Pilates.
And that’s the point ! 2025-07-17 13:13:26 Why modern reform.. 1,827 +18% 167 +36%
Little snippets from a magical week in France for my cousin’s wedding 🇫🇷💫
The whole clan showed up — chaotic, joyful, and full of love, just as you’d expect.
Theo discovered baguettes and the thrill of pool floats (both equally life-changing).
Work took a back seat to good food, late nights, and family time — though I still managed to sneak in a bit of Pilates, naturellement. 2025-06-11 22:56:35 Little s.. 134 -91% 10 -92%
Pilates is everywhere right now—on every feed, in every city, in every studio style imaginable.

But what’s actually being taught? And what’s being lost in the name of “influence”?

This isn’t about being traditional or rigid.
This is about being honest.
Because what we see online is often:
• Mislabelled
• Rushed
• Aesthetic-driven
• And completely disconnected from the foundations of the method

And here’s the uncomfortable truth:
The foundations don’t trend.
But they’re the only way to progress without injury, burnout, or confusion.

I’m speaking next Thursday Sohohouse 180 on the topic of Deinfluencing of Pilates—
how social media is shaping the method,
and how we can protect the value of it without losing the energy that’s making it grow.

I’ve got 5 guest spots for members as we’re at capacity.
Can’t make it? Drop a question or thought below.
Let’s discuss it in the room.

Because Pilates doesn’t need to be louder.
It needs to be clearer.

When everything gets called Pilates, the method loses its meaning—
and the people doing the real work lose out.

And the people who lose out?
🌀 The clients trying to learn
🌀 The teachers trying to grow
🌀 The ones doing the work with integrity

Because Pilates isn’t just a list of exercises.
It’s a method—with structure, sequencing, principles, and purpose.

And when you remove those?
You don’t just water it down.
You erase what made it powerful in the first place.

This isn’t about shaming different styles.
It’s about preserving a system that was designed to last—
one that’s still transforming bodies, 100 years later.

Let’s keep teaching with clarity.
Let’s keep asking better questions.
Let’s protect the method.

Episode 3 The Pilates Elders – Who Kept Joe’s Work Alive?

When Joseph Pilates died in 1967, there was no official training, no manuals, no certification—just those who had learned from him directly.

His students, now called the Pilates Elders, carried his method forward. Some kept it exactly as he taught, others evolved it, and that’s where the split between Classical and Contemporary Pilates began.

Without them, Pilates wouldn’t be what it is today.

Episode 1 - where did Pilates come from?
Pilates has taken over the world—but not many people know how it actually started.

Before it was a buzzword, Pilates was called Contrology—a method developed by a man named Joseph Pilates. His vision? Strength, control, and full-body movement that worked.

Here’s what you might not know about the man behind the method:
🧡 Born in 1883, Germany, Joe was a sickly child, suffering from asthma, rickets, and other health issues. Instead of accepting his fate, he became obsessed with movement—studying gymnastics, boxing, martial arts, and anatomy to rebuild his body.

🧡 During WWI, he was interned in a camp and started refining his method, training fellow inmates and even using bed springs for resistance training (which later inspired the Reformer!).

🧡 In 1926, he moved to New York and opened his first studio—right next to the New York City Ballet. This is how Pilates became associated with dancers, but Joe designed it for everyone.

🧡 His dream? To have a Pilates studio on every corner of New York—and, well, I think we can say that’s pretty much happened now!

🧡 He trained every single day into his 80s, believed in walking barefoot in the snow for circulation, and lived by his method. He wasn’t just teaching Contrology—he was Contrology.

Joe died in 1967, but his wife Clara Pilates and his students (now known as the Pilates Elders) carried his method forward.
And here we are, over 100 years later, still practicing, still learning, and still proving that his method works.

This month, I’m diving into the real story of Pilates—where it came from, what it actually is, and why it continues to be one of the most effective movement systems today.

💬 Did you know Pilates was named after a person? Let me know below!

It’s March Madness, and—equally mad—it’s almost been a year since I opened the studio (!). So, what better time to kick off a Pilates series?

The love for Pilates is stronger now than I’ve ever known it to be. Which is amazing. But with that has come a wave of misinformation, confusion, and heated debates—especially around Classical vs. Contemporary Pilates and what Pilates actually is.

So, throughout March, I’m taking you on a Pilates journey—back to its roots, its purpose, and why it remains one of the most efficient movement systems to this day.

I’m going to be as factual as possible, but let’s be real—excitement and passion might creep in at times. Please don’t confuse the two.

Let’s get started. Starting tomorrow: what is Pilates, and how did this all begin?
