A reflection from my practise this week : The best time to hold your tongue is when you feel most compelled to let it loose . I’ve heard it said that ‘ to pause is to reclaim your freedom from the tyranny of the moment’. Reactions based on emotion as opposed to logic are rarely good decisions. 

Something I have learned from Yoga is that where it feels most tempting to let the discomfort of the moment tempt you to give up, that is the most essential time to pause, focus on the breath and sit with it for a moment rather than fight or flight. But yoga is not just movement and postures, it is a philosophy applicable to many aspects of life. 

This is what popped to mind in my very uncomfortable chest stands 😂

I love movements that can flow smoothly from one to the next like a choreographed dance… it is one of the pillars of Pilates that distinguish it from other movement practises. Definitely one of the many benefits of Pilates is that it ingrains in you how to move with grace and fluidity

Something I get asked all the time - which is the best? Yoga or Pilates, Pilates or weight training, weight training or cardio? With the growing interest in Pilates recently I am noticing even more confusion among my clients, my class attendees and the online community about what they ‘should be doing’ or which will get them the ‘best results’. But to understand which is ‘better’, you need to first establish what you would like to achieve. There are so many different ways to move and different wellness practises, but it’s important to note that it isn’t about one being better than the other- they can each serve us  different purposes. It is key to assess what you are hoping to achieve and whether or not what you are practising is actually in line with that goal. 

I am also a big advocate for incorporating them all, since one can often fulfil a need that the other cannot.  This is why I practise and teach all of the above - because I believe that they all work well in unison (remember that mat pilates still exists which can be done at home , if joining a gym as well as a reformer studio is not so wallet friendly)

Also let’s not forget that moving for the simple joy of being able to do so and for the feel good endorphins is also important. So whatever it is for you : dancing, cycling, padel,  or contorting like me 😂 … find something you love to do that gets you moving.

Spend a day with me! This is how my Mondays go every week. Because it is a busy day, I don’t get training for myself in but I do try to get a speedy core session on the reformer between classes. Training myself is scheduled in to my diary each week like an appointment on days where it works best. Since I have a hectic timetable which includes a fair bit of driving to and from each studio, blocking my own training into my diary is such a hack. It really makes sure I treat it like I am a client who booked me and makes me accountable to myself as it’s right there in my calendar and even reminds me 30 mins before. 

For those of you who have followed me for ages and have never heard my voice… here it is, feel free to mute me 😂
