Another Sunday practice outside with Kaibaby. What a blessing for him to grow up surrounded by yogis. Today I left my mat outside still rolled up and went in, only to come back out to find Kai unrolled it and started doing poses. Not to mention no one has ever formally taught him yoga or has he taken any sort of kids yoga class he just knows from observing.

I’ll be there today for my 12:00 power

Usually on Sundays I practice with my hubs right before I teach my 12… but today we had no one to help with Kai so here we are at home getting it in. At first Kai didn’t want to come outside so I had to keep going in to check on him. The mosquitos were loving me especially in my down dog holds. But it ended up being really sweet and special. I even got to end it with a super long headstand hold in peace with a solo savasana.

Did you see the hug I got in prasarita? 🥹 2025-08-31 20:08:17 #sundaymorning #pr.. 100 -25% 16 -33%

I drank too much caffeine today. Was probably a little dehydrated. It was so hot & 1 million people. My heart was beating a little too fast. Body felt good but I was also dying. I wanted to give up but I also didn’t want to give up. In stillness I could feel my energy pulsating. There is nothing like thegabyarmy . Best part of class was we didn’t do backbends. And I cried in savasana cuz I miss Kai today a lot. I had moments of presence but also my mind was racing. Idk what I would do without yoga. 2025-08-30 00:36:05 I drank too much caff.. 80 -40% 14 -41%

For the past couple of years I rarely post here on ig. Maybe 3/4 a year… but lately I’ve been enjoying capturing these moments on my mat. It’s like a little diary of my practice.

Wednesday I drop Kai off at 9 and come pop into Jeri’s 10. I feel so blessed to have this community and so proud that all the wynwood_yoga teachers are incredible.

This iconic photo was taken in 2014 in Harbour Island, Bahamas, our very first yoga retreat.

We were young, I had only been teaching for four years, and it felt scary to organize something like this… but we did it. Nick cooked every meal, I led most of the yoga, and I knew instantly: this was something I’d keep doing for the rest of my life.

Since then, we’ve gone back to the Bahamas many times, led retreats in Saint Lucia twice, and now we’re returning to El Salvador for our second retreat balancesurfyoga a place that completely stole our hearts.

When I find a place I love, I go back again and again.
Because it’s not just about the location—it’s about the people who come.

This retreat is about reconnecting—with your practice, with nature, and with yourself. You’ll eat nourishing meals, nap in hammocks, hike to waterfalls, flow and breathe with the ocean nearby, learn to surf, and feel held by the most beautiful community.

We have just 2 rooms left, and the resort will release them by the end of this week if we don’t fill them.
To reserve your spot, you just need to make a deposit.

I’ve been teaching Hot Yin for over 10 years & it’s always held a special place in my heart. Even back in the day when only a few people showed up to class (now we’re bursting at the seams), I felt deep in my bones that this practice was part of my dharma, a path I was meant to walk and share.

Yes, I believe in the healing power of Yin. I’ve witnessed it over and over again in my students. But what truly draws me to teaching it isn’t just the physical benefit it’s the space it gives me to teach yoga. In Vinyasa, we’re cueing so much about movement and alignment that there’s often little room to go deeper. But in Yin where we stay in poses for several minutes I often find myself channeling philosophy, wisdom, and insight, and students are ready to receive it.

It’s in these long moments of stillness that true healing and integration can happen.
And honestly, I believe this is the missing link in a lot of yoga teaching today. Where the focus is only on asana, it becomes a workout not a spiritual discipline. For example have you ever practiced with a teacher who has a bad ass practice but you don’t resonate with them AT ALL when they guide a class?

In just about two weeks, July 11th will be leading our 50-Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training, and there’s still space for a few last-minute sign-ups.

Yes, you’ll deepen your understanding of Yin.
Yes, you’ll learn to teach it skillfully and confidently. But beyond that you’ll learn how to hold space, how to speak from your soul, and how to connect to the higher dimensions of this practice. If your heart feels pulled toward this kind of teaching, we would love to have you there.

Below I am copy and pasting the intro paragraph to the Yin Yoga Teacher Training manual 🤓

The practice of Yin Yoga came around originally by a yogi who was an Ashtanga practitioner that studied Chinese medicine and became a Daoist. Dao is all about finding equanimity, which is the ability to experience a state of calm in all events and that harmony and health are created when conditions arise where contrasting (yin/yang) aspects are in balance. They believe finding balance in your life will bring you health and peace of mind. This practice that we all know and love called Yin is the Yang to our hectic lives. A fast paced world makes moments of stillness hard to create. Especially in this culture of devices, our minds are always turned on which causes cognitive fatigue. We have to learn to do nothing. To purposely slow down and be still is a skill that takes practice. There is a lot more to this Yin practice than the physical. The real work is your internal experience. To move through the asana’s in a space of calm centered awareness and a place of self love is more advanced than being able to bring your leg behind your head. Learning to do nothing is in fact absolutely necessary and essential as the world speeds up around us. But even the physical practice has so many lessons to help deepen our internal practice. One thing we will work on is called ‘Effortless Effort’ finding a peacefulness even in the challenging poses. For example, holding a 15 minute froggy, and recognizing the extreme discomfort but managing to breath and stay calm the entire time. Our intention for this training is to dive deep into the Yin Yoga practice so each student can experience finding equanimity and use the tools that you learn on your mat off the mat in daily life. As well as to teach you how to share this method with your students and loved ones.

This is a 3 weekend course, 50 hour YA accredited beginning Friday July 11th guided by myself & kjflows_

This reel is a love letter to the last chapter of my life.

From letting go of my first business (best decision of my life) to starting Wynwood Yoga 7 years ago… I was young, inspired, and in love with the practice. I didn’t know where it would lead—I just knew I had to give it my all.

And I did.

I taught my ass off. I showed up every single day, even when I was barely scraping by. I gave everything—my time, my energy, my heart. I laughed. I cried. I got married. I traveled to India. I became a mama to Kai. I poured myself into this studio with everything I had.

And somehow, even when the world shut down and we had to close our doors during COVID, our community kept showing up. We taught live classes from our living rooms. You donated. You practiced. You believed. And when we reopened, we came back stronger—together.

This space has witnessed transformation—mine, yours, all of ours. It’s been my second home, the backdrop to the biggest moments of my life, and the container for deep healing, joy, growth, and connection. I couldn’t of done it without thegabyarmy & yoginicolas 😭

Now, we’re stepping into a brand new space this July. It’s stunning. It’s exciting. And it’s a big leap forward.

But before I let go of this one, I just want to honor it—and you.

To everyone who’s been part of this journey… thank you. The heart of Wynwood Yoga isn’t in the walls. It’s in the people. It’s in the practice. It’s in the love.

And it’s coming with us.

Here’s to where we’ve been—and where we’re going next. Ready for the next chapter in my book. 2025-06-01 18:31:00 .. 259 +96% 79 +232%

It might not seem like much but this space has already transformed. Here we are standing in the small Shala. When I stand here I see a lot of classes to come. So many oms, so many break through moments, so much healing, countless teacher trainings to come. I thought about it and by the time our lease ends Kai will be almost 10. He will literally grow up here. What a blessing

I’m not great at keeping a journal but often times when I’m feeling some sort of way about something I like to make a post. There is a power to sharing what you’re feeling. I’ve had the topic of expectations on my mind today. As a teacher I often preach to let go of expectations… to show up for yourself as you are and love your practice as it is now, trusting the process… But what I’m wondering from my fellow teachers out there is how do you feel about students having high expectations of you? Is this something we should want or accept? I can give so many examples. For instance. I typically give a hard intense challenging flow on Sundays. So now I know if certain people show up they are expecting this from me. Even if that day I might be feeling more of a slower flow or whatever is it, I have to deliver something specific. Teaching is such a creative process that I never show up with anything in mind but I allow it to flow as I go and when I know there are expectations that throws off my creativity. I even have students request a certain type of music be played or a certain pose be called out or wave me down for an adjustment. People even expect you to look a certain way. When I was pregnant but not showing, I had this little belly that looked like I just ate a burrito and me being me I still ran around in shorts and crop top. The looks id get from students who had no clue I was pregnant was insane. Damn I’m out here trying to follow this path and live the yoga off the mat, to constantly be learning so I can share my wisdom in class and follow the 8 limbs in every sense of the way and give so much love in my classes that I don’t even have to physically touch you for you to receive it. Not to mention be a mom and run a business. Is it bad that I think students should just show up grateful that they even have a space like WY to step foot inside? And know that we’re giving it our all every single day and drop the ego & expectations.

My first attempt to practice today was while Kai napped (which is a miracle when he does 🤣) but it started pouring rain so I decided to nap with him instead. Luckily I was able to squeeze a little something in while he was at the park. Part of me was sad I didn’t go to the park too but I have to take care of myself to be the best mama possible. I’m teaching tonight my 6:30pm and staying after to take yin 🤤 Daily reminder that practicing yoga is a blessing. Make sure you show up for yourself.

How did I become a Yin teacher? The first Teacher Training I did was for Vinyasa which taught me the foundations of the yogic lifestyle. But anyone who knows anything knows, the more you learn the more you realize you don’t know shit 🤣 I was so passionate about yoga I constantly self studied and read and continued to practice and surround myself with the community. Eventually I signed up for my 500hr TT with which was partially taught by Allaine Stricklen who is the master of Restorative Yoga and a direct student of Iyengar. Later on I did a Prenatal TT and after that I led a class that was Restorative/Prenatal Saturdays at 9:00am. It was a vibe. I would pack it and I realized people love to chill out and slow down and not all classes have to be extreme power yoga. So finally when I opened up my first studio I decided I wanted to offer a Hot Candlelit Yin and with all this knowledge I had from years of studying yoga who better to guide it than myself. I scheduled it M/W 8pm… that was in 2015 and I’m still to this day teaching that class. My approach has evolved over the years but I realized very quickly how passionate I was about this class. It’s sacred, emotional, spiritual and healing. There is soooo much more to teaching yin than what poses you call out. No matter how many words I use to describe the class you just have to experience it yourself. Finally after almost 15 years of teaching yoga and almost 10 years of teaching yin I am guiding a 50 hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training at wynwood_yoga with our other yin teacher kjflows_ and it’s going to be an incredible experience to say the least. After my pregnancy when I started getting back into my practice my backbends were gone it’s not even funny how tight I was. Having five layers of my core cut through did not do my practice any favors to say the least. So the fact that I’m dropping back again is a big deal. It may not look too advanced or pretty but it really shows how miraculous the body is. #practiceandalliscoming
