Unpopular opinion: I’ll continue to write the captions under my posts by myself even though everyone says AI can do it much better and also save my time, energy and god knows what else. Since I started my photography journey in 2018 most of my captions are not just some random texts. They’re short stories of my life, a diary in a way. Depending on my mood and my mind states at different times, I’m opening up, sharing my dreams and passions, successes and failures. People don’t read captions any more as much as they used to. Now it’s important to have a bright image, stand out, be a positive or even a negative trigger for your audience. I guess I’m not a good seller but I’m putting a lot of soul in my photography, in editing and I’ll keep putting my soul into words that I speak to the world. If you’re a photographer and you want to make a wedding or a family photo album in Türkiye you need to have a lot of patience, calmness, tolerance to unprofessionalism, rudeness and laziness. If you’re only starting the tricky and long process of ordering an album be mentally ready to wait, remind and pay extra unnecessary charges. Resend and redo. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Imagine: you’re in Italy, it’s riposo and you’re walking down a narrow street to get something cold to drink. Every building around you is a small piece of art, every breath you take tickles your nose with new aromas one better than another. From one of the windows you can feel the fresh smell of coffee, some magical mix of cooking food from another, a light scent of cigar smoke, fresh drying laundry, light fruity perfume, baby powder, freshly mowed grass... Light music mixes with slow conversations and the fan noise. You keep walking till you find a small square with a beautiful fountain right in the middle. In the caption to these beautiful shots I’d like to tell you the reality behind a lot of wedding photoshoots in Istanbul. The place where my couple booked the celebration is Sabancı Öğretmenevi. Before booking the stuff informed my couple that for the party they have their own stuff photographer and they cost extra. They don’t allow photographers from outside. They had no choice but to agree, with one condition. They said that for one hour before the party starts they’ll bring their own photographer (me) to take some snaps for memories at least in the style they want to. The restaurant management confirmed that the photographer from outside is allowed for one hour only. Once the day arrived and I’ve reached the location, we started the photoshoot, the management came screaming at us that photographers from outside are not allowed. My couple objected that they had a deal before and they kept their side of agreement by hiring photographer they didn’t want to for the party. The management didn’t want to hear anything and simply pushed us outside (some of them were really rude). Let’s not forget that it’s a wedding day and groom and bride are nervous and stressed already. I tried my best to reassure them and we ran to the park near by to continue with our photoshoot. And unfortunately it’s happening in Istanbul a lot. First people are forced to hire photographers they don’t like or want, then they’re not allowed to bring their own photographer to the place they rent for party. But the worst is that first they have agreement about something and on the day that they should only enjoy and celebrate, they get stressed and disrespected. - I refused to work with some customers because they annoyed me before we even met - I’ve spent too much time living in a place I don’t like just because I was scared of changes - I’ve let others influence my life choices and missed a lot of opportunities because of that - I used to be an ‘I’ll do it myself’ person and it gave me literally zero benefits - I always question my talent and professionalism and sometimes I feel my work is not worth attention - Some months my spendings exceed my income - Sometimes I’m thinking I choose the wrong profession and want to give up - I can’t push myself to make reels and blog but I envy those who do even though 85% of content is trash - Sometimes I’m shy to direct the people I shoot so they don’t think I’m unprofessional - I’m terrified of any kind of crowds and gatherings.
