The reality is that calories in vs calories out matters. HOWEVER, we also know that controlling and counting calories religiously does more harm than good. So how do you find the happy medium?

Focus on nutrition by addition:

Add in more high-fiber foods, lean proteins and anti-inflammatory rich fats as much as possible. This is the trifecta- the key core macros as I write about extensively in my book, the_core_3 plan.

We live in a world where you can’t win: you gain weight you’re judged, you lost weight you’re judged. When I first sat down to write my book the_core_3 I thought of all my clients who have come to me over the years filled with frustration, shame, guilt and even desperation. The fear of being judged is paralyzing and immobilizing. That’s why I made sure to highlight the importance of working on body image first and dedicated the entire first chapter to just that.

Rife with body shaming and bad advice, The Biggest Loser really affected the early part of my career. However, despite all that we can now look back and say we know better and we can see what not to do in order to find your healthiest, happiest weight.

These contestants came with positive and healthy intentions to live better lives and in some cases, left with more issues than when they started. A cautionary tale against extreme restriction and weight loss pursuit at any cost.

I see this ALL. THE. TIME.  I know how frustrating it can be when you’re exercising 6, maybe 7, times per week and not feeling any different (maybe you’re even feeling worse!). 🚩 Your relationship with exercise needs attention. 

That’s because your body DOES NOT like excessive exercise - there’s a very fine line between what’s helpful and what’s harmful. 

I recommend hovering between 3-4 days per week of moderate exercise - ESPECIALLY for my female clients between 20-50 years old. Give your body a chance to respond. 

Mix in strength training 🏋️ and light cardio 🏃 , then focus on balanced eating 🍽️ and managing stress 🧘‍♀️ . Check back in after a few weeks to see how you’re doing and go from there.

Let your child eat the blueberry bread at lunch. Give your child the agency while simultaneously teaching them AND SHOWING THEM how to eat balanced at home and how to trust their body’s hardwired hunger and fullness cues. 

Is it easy? Definitely not. 

Does it get even harder when you have a “picky eater,” tons of food allergies or your doctor tells you your child is “overweight” or not growing “perfectly”??
