- This weekend, L.A. Dance Project and The Wallis presented Gatherings, a triple bill program featuring works by choreographers Benjamin Millepied, Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, and Janie Taylor. The evening opened with Anthem, a pre-performance, site-specific work by Janie Taylor. Audiences were immersed in dance from the moment they entered the courtyard and entry hall, where guest dancers from the Colburn School performed alongside L.A. Dance Project company members. Anthem premiered at the National Museum of Qatar: Rose des Sables in 2022, with music by Nico Muhly. The Wallis program marked the work’s U.S. premiere, adapted for the unique spaces surrounding the Beverly Hills landmark. L.A. Dance Project returns to The Wallis this October with Gems, a contemporary ballet trilogy from celebrated choreographer, dancer, and Artistic Director Benjamin Millepied, in collaboration with Van Cleef & Arpels. Twelve years in the making, this groundbreaking dance event brings all three works together for the first time in a single program, celebrating the intersection of dance, music, and visual art.
