drbullockderm reposted this myth a couple days ago and promoted his affiliate link again - must've gotten a lot of commission income last time 🙃 It's a common tactic - we saw it as well with the creator who posted her affiliate code at the end of her TPO gel polish. Fearmongering sells!

Yes, your sunscreen is almost definitely protecting your skin from premature aging. UVA protection is important, but SPF is more important (no, we do NOT want a UVA-only sunscreen). No, you can't tell how much protection you're getting just by looking at the ingredients.

The best sunscreen is still the one you'll use.

Comment YESPF for a DM with common sunscreen myths and my top product recommendations, including high UVA protection sunscreens (notice how I don't try to get people to buy more products by misleading them? very demure etc.)

Repost, because if you get blocked by the original creator you sequenced, your reel gets deleted 🙃

Guess she doesn't actually care about your reproductive health, because anxiety is going to do a lot more harm than TPO... but fear is great for selling products with your affiliate link! Wonder how manucurist feels about this sales tactic 🤔

TPO has been banned in the EU - should you go out of your way to avoid it?

I think this is one of the most overblown bans so far. Allergies are an almost infinitely higher risk!

Also check out moskinlab who did a fantastic reel on this! Everyone should follow him for info on safety.

His Substack is also essential reading 🔥

No, UVA Is NOT around all day, or all year! It changes a bit less than UVB, but it still changes a lot. UV index is still a good way to gauge the UVA level!

I'd recommend looking for a sunscreen with good UVA protection especially if you want to even out pigment - although really, it's important for pretty much every sun-related skin issue.

Comment SUNNY to get resources for common sunscreen myths, my top sunscreen recommendations and info on my skincare eBook (which has a sunscreen chapter, of course) to your inbox!

Vitamin C derivatives don’t react in this test, but more importantly, the framing of this video was really short-sighted IMO.

No, The Ordinary aren’t lying about their vitamin C, nor are the vast majority of skincare companies who have scientists on staff, and even the ones without.

Sunscreens aren't harmful to your health. If they were, there'd be at least some evidence of actual human impacts after half a century of widespread use. No, there aren't microplastics in most of your sunscreens, or other beauty products. Beat the Microbead uses an extremely loose definition for microplastics that includes all synthetic polymers, even those that are very much NOT plastic. And if you're selling sunscreen like Kelly Slater, you might want to, uh, ✨do your own research✨

A much bigger source of microplastics is the packaging. But even then, microplastics have been massively exaggerated as an environmental concern.

This is largely because of the natural = safer fallacy, and a lot of greenwashing in marketing. As consumers, we tend to focus on end-of-life, so it's very easy for companies to greenwash with 2025-07-22 18:44:31 No, there aren't m.. 6,572 +104% 178 +34%

vichy_dercos Serum 10 - has piroctone olamine and antioxidants, absolute game changer for extending time between washes for me! Feels like nothing after it's dried down

(These products were all PR samples or sent as part of previous sponsorships, but they're all products that genuinely work really well for me!)

Seeing a lot of people recommending sunscreen mists... unfortunately they're not that effective when sprayed at your face, sorry!

See the cloud lingering in the air? That's sunscreen NOT going on your skin - my experiments estimated that 80-95% of the sunscreen doesn't land. At a certain size, the particles just stop in midair (physics!). The lighter the spray, the more drifts off. And what coverage you get is spotty.

Is it better than nothing? Well, a rice grain of sunscreen is technically 2025-07-15 06:44:55 Seeing a lot of people re.. 5,382 +67% 129 -3%

A big driver of misinformation is plagiarism - and it adds to sci-commer burnout. Many people don’t see plagiarising science content as a problem, or even possible… but almost every science communicator we’ve talked to agrees it’s a big problem.

This is part 2 of our collaboration on sci-comm and plagiarism. Part 3 will talk about real experiences with sci-commer plagiarism - keep an eye out for that piping hot ☕
