I had the joy of meeting up with some of my crew from my first solo entrepreneurial adventure at Veronica’s Attic, that began in 1990. There were tears and laughter and we talked for hours. Have you found the freedom of embracing imperfection in your design style or just life in general?🙋🏼‍♀️ I confess, I am a recovering perfectionist... I have been working on getting good with life's imperfections for as long as I can remember and at times it is a white-knuckle journey. The problem with perfectionism is that we miss the beauty that can only be found in the cracks and the imperfections and besides that it is F**king exhausting!🤦🏼‍♀️ As a designer, I am drawn to older structures. I love the challenge of working with the architecture to enhance the beauty of the existing parts whenever possible. You always find a gem in the original structure, it tells the story of the life lived and some spaces, just like people, would not be the same without them! Where the heck did January go? Well, the hustle and bustle of the holidays are over, and it is time to enjoy some peace! But does anyone else feel like this time of year is a little ho-hum? Even though I enjoy the peace I always feel like I need a little visual uplift! Shifting those household winter blues can be simple by making minor adjustments to your interior decor, and I have assembled a few ideas. *Change out your pillow covers and throws; just adding a new color or texture can shift the mood of a space. *Paint is another excellent way to add some life; choose an accent wall or paint the back of the bookcase in an alternate color that adds a complement to your existing decor. Paris is always a good idea… Paris is a heart tug for me, and it sounds so cliche, but I love that city. When I am there, I swim in a sea of inspiration everywhere I turn. It's pure artistry from the architecture to the museums, the food, and window displays, and it just speaks to my soul! I find visual inspiration is a good place to start when I am beginning a design project. Since travel is not always available, I research the style through art, travel, and design books and dive deep into the history of the styling I want to achieve for my client. This inspiration creates excitement for the project and sets the stage for the creative process to flow. I have a design secret to share! Over the years, I found that Intuition is a huge part of my creative process and something I have relied on more and more. I believe that developing that gut feeling (you know the one I am talking about) is an integral part of self-awareness and helpful when choosing the elements that are right for you in your home design. Even after narrowing down your soul interior style and arming yourself with the principles of good design, you will still have so many choices to make, and having your Intuition honed will make it that much easier. Below are a few small steps that I use to keep me tuned in and deepen my Intuition. This practice brings insight and aligns my head and heart with my truth. I find this invaluable when making interior decisions. 1. Intuition works best when you are calm and present in the moment, so you will want to get quiet, centered, and comfy. Close the door - maybe lock it depending on your situation! 2. Spend time just noticing the room around you. Take apart all of the details in the room. The color, sound, feeling, and textures go deep here. 3. Notice where you feel these senses in your body; is it your gut, your throat? Do you sense different feelings in different parts of your body? 4. Now, start your intuition journal - write down all of the information you received. With practice, you will begin to uncover the things that resonate with you, and you will become clear on who you are and what you love. Simply developing awareness of how different elements in your room evoke emotions and where you feel those in your body will help you start to strengthen your intuitive muscles. When making interior design choices, it connects you with your truth that aligns with your soul interior style. One of the best parts of developing your Intuition is that it becomes second nature after time. You can almost forget that it is an essential part of your decision, and the best thing is that it lives inside of all of us and is always with you! I have been thinking about what to gift you! So, I've created something just for you, & for 2022. It evokes courageous creativity and imaginative expression. Oh YES! These are some of the words used by the Pantone Institute to describe the 2022 color of the year - Very Peri! I love the spirit in which this color was developed - it is a combination of blue (my favorite color) mixed with red-violet. Unlike years in the past, this color combination did not exist in the vast Pantone color selections; it was created specifically for 2022. I believe it was time to put a point on these past couple of years, and I love Very Peri's bold and joyous energy! According to Vedic traditions, this is a color that you will find in a few of the body's 7 energy centers referred to as Chakras. This color's combination relates explicitly to the 5th, 6th and 7th Chakras. The 5th chakra is blue, meaning truth and authentic voice. The 6th is indigo (a purple-blue) for intuition and intentional living. The 7th, the crown, is violet - representing the cosmic connection to our spiritual self and others.
