Not long now until 2 becomes 3 🤍🤰
A little Pregnancy Q&A…

Have you always been maternal?
Honestly, no. I never really imagined myself as a mum growing up — it just wasn’t something I thought much about. But something shifted around my 30th birthday. I started to feel a pull towards motherhood… but at the same time, I knew I wasn’t ready. I still had this strong feeling that there were parts of life I hadn’t explored yet. I’d spent over a decade as a TV journalist, and while I was grateful for everything I’d experienced, there was this itch to try something completely different. I was searching for more — I remember feeling scared. But I also didn’t want to feel resentment or regret later in life. Eventually I thought: what’s there to lose? Within a few months, I left my job, we bought a boat, learnt how to sail, and started documenting the journey during our ‘gap year’. It was scary, exciting, and completely new… but looking back, I think we just needed to tick off a few big dreams first.

How did you know the timing was right?
We didn’t really know — but over time, something shifted. After years of studying, working, travelling, and adventuring, we began to wonder: what’s all this leading to? And at 33, things started to fall into place, but it was still a big decision for us :)

Natural birth or C-section:
As someone who’s always avoided/fainted from needles, I’ve overcome this fear slowly over the past year (something I didn’t think was possible!!)… so natural birth 🤞 The book ‘Birth with Confidence’ by Rhea Dempsey is incredible. A must read for Mum’s to be 🧡

How far along are you now?
We’ve hit the third trimester… and honestly, it still feels surreal that we’re about to meet this little person who’s been growing with us all this time. Lots of kicks in the ribs now!

Are you still working?
Yes! I’m currently editing our next travel YouTube episode from Prague as we speak! So I hope to get this video out before … baby wants out! 😂

🙅‍♀️ BIG NO NO in Japan! 🚫
We thought we could sneak across an empty street in Tokyo… but nope. 🤭 Everyone — and we mean everyone — waits for the little green man. Even when there’s not a single car around.

Turns out, this is why:

⛩️ Respect for the rules – Following them isn’t just about law, it’s about social harmony

🧠 Group-minded culture – Japanese people move with the flow, not against it

🚷 Avoiding inconvenience – Even minor disruptions are seen as inconsiderate

💭 Awareness of others – Standing out (in a negative way) is generally avoided in Japan

It’s honestly kind of refreshing — and weirdly calming ✌️Comment JAPAN for our free Tokyo guide, or watch our latest YouTube video for more! 🇯🇵

IS THIS FOR REAL?

Why are these Pokémon cards are so expensive? 😳🫢

We’re in Tokyo’s famous gaming district, Akihabara 👾 It’s like stepping into a scene of Blade Runner, with multi-level arcades, neon lights, themed cafés, and collectibles worth thousands — we even found Pokémon cards selling for the price of a small car.

📍 Where: Akihabara, central Tokyo

🎟️ What to do: Visit the Pokémon Center, Super Potato retro game store, and Animate for anime lovers

🚉 Closest station: Akihabara Station (JR Yamanote Line)

💴 Tip: Bring cash — many smaller shops still don’t take cards, and you’ll want yen for some machines

It’s loud, chaotic, and quirky — but super fun to explore, even if you have no idea what half the stuff is 😂😳

📍Tokyo! What’s the deal with Shibuya Crossing? Crowds in every direction, lights flashing, it’s utter chaos! 2,500 people cross every light change during peak hour. So…

✅ Best time to go: Late afternoon to evening for the lights, or just before sunset if you want golden hour photos.

✅ Where to watch from: Shibuya Sky for an epic rooftop view (you’ll need to book ahead!), Magnet by Shibuya109 has a great lookout, or go classic with a coffee at the Starbucks Tsutaya.

✅ How to cross it: Wait for the green man, then walk straight, diagonal — whatever you want!

Sahara Desert dreams 🐪🏜️
We slept in a luxury camp (off-grid) and our wild experience, how we did it, and how much it cost is officially on YouTube. Inside the city walls, Morocco 🪘🌞 🇲🇦
1. We spent a week in this incredible country, ticking off Casablanca, Marrakesh, The Sahara Desert and Fes
2. This hidden teahouse is in the heart of the Marrakesh Medina and is a restored traditional house (known locally as a Riad) that’s 300 years old.
3. We ordered the rose infused green tea, coffee and Sellou (the dish you can see made of almonds, sesame seeds, honey and spices) at 1112marrakech
4. The view from the outside .. blink and you’ll miss out!
5. This is Marrakesh’s Medina (filled with markets, mosques and delicious foods) it’s surrounded by a fortified wall and was built in the 12th century. It’s huge — 2-3km wide (1-2 miles).
6. We asked the guards at the Royal Palace for a snap!
7. They said Yes! 🙌
8. Guards at the train station 🫣
9. Entering the Medina…
10. We find these local treats (think baklava, almond cookies, coconut milk balls)
11. This bloke has been selling Moroccan sweets here for 40 years…
12. “God knows how old these are” - John Tilley
13. You have to try the traditional Moroccan dish — Tagine! Chicken or lamb with prunes cooked in the clay cooking pot was our favourite!
14. Getting ready to hire our car and drive to the Sahara Desert
15. But first, Ait Benhaddou (an 11th century village made from clay 😮)
16. Dressing up for the occasion 😅
17. Meeting locals from the fortified village where Hollywood directors regularly visit.
18. It’s also where the Gladiator and Game of Thrones was filmed!
19. Ait Benhaddou is something else.
20. Time is ticking.. we have to get going!! The drive from Marrakesh to the Sahara Desert is 560 kilometres (350 miles!)

This is the deepest pool in the world 😱

 👉 at 60 meters/197 feet (the depth of a Boeing 777!) ✈️

So what happens? You check-in, get sized & suited up, you have a quick briefing and then you enter the pool! John and I spent about 30-40 mins exploring the sunken lost world and all the hidden details — underwater abandoned apartments, cars, phone booths, ATM’s, an arcade room — and honestly so much more — the place is HUGE! We had the choice of scuba diving or free-diving, but we chose scuba 🤿 so we could spend longer swimming around the rooms without needing to come up for air. The deeper you go, the more interesting the experience!!

What you need to know before you go:
	•	🌡️ The water’s is usually a comfy 30°C (86°F) but they had a free-diving competition when we were there, so it was a lot colder! 🤣
	•	🏊‍♀️ It’s suitable for all experience levels — for example, I’m not certified and it wasn’t a problem!
	•	🎶 Crazy sounds are played underwater as you explore the city
	•	📍 It’s located 25 minutes from Dubai’s city centre

💦 Avoid this 360° infinity pool in Dubai… unless you’re ready for sky-high luxury, endless photo ops, and jaw-dropping views.

🌅 Here’s what you must know:

Aura Skypool, soaring 200 meters above the ground on the 50th floor of The Palm Tower, is the world’s highest 360° infinity pool. From here, you can soak in views of the Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Ain Dubai, and the city’s skyline.

🎟️ It regularly sells out, book in advance

🕒 Session times:
	•	Sunrise, 6 AM - 9 AM
	•	Morning, 10 AM - 2 PM
	•	Afternoon, 3 PM - 7 PM
	•	Evening, 8 PM - 11 PM

💵 Prices range from $75 - $140 USD per person

💺 Seating prices vary based on the view, from first-row lounges to cabanas.

🧘‍♂️ Which seats to choose?:
	•	Palm View: Overlooks the Palm Jumeirah. This was my favourite view, and perfect for sunset! 🌅
	•	Marina View: Perfect for capturing Dubai Marina’s skyline.
	•	City Skyline View: Pick this for sunrise! 🌇
	•	Burj Al Arab View: Best vantage point of the 7 star hotel!

Additional amenities like massages, yoga classes, drinks and food are extra. We paid $10 USD for a coffee! ☕️

✨ We chose sunrise (as it was the only session not sold out, and we booked 2 weeks prior!) and we paid $100 for the 3 hour session — but we would love to try sunset next.

Hello from the world’s tallest 360° pool! 👋
Any guesses what level we’re on?
And what time of day it is… 😂

After 24 hours of travel to get here, our alarms went off at 5:30am for a sunrise session at Aura Skypool Dubai. Dragging ourselves out of bed was jet-lag toughhh, but the moment we arrived and were hit with this view — 😱😮

Outdoors, this high up, overlooking The Palm, Atlantis, Burj Al Arab, and the UAE coastline — was magical. So grateful to experience this (and get our hands on tickets!) because when I booked two weeks prior, sunrise was the only session left (brunch, lunch, and sunset were all sold out), and these were the last seats available.

Although, let’s be real — we spent most of the time in the pool 🤣 chatting about all sort of interesting things! Watch our shenanigans from Dubai on YouTube! It’s one of my favourites ❤️

7 days in Morocco 🇲🇦🚔

We were pulled over by the police... more than once!!
It was a pretty confronting experience to be honest, as officers hide in bushes, take photos of your car from the distance and WhatsApp their colleagues at roadblocks down the road who then catch you for ... allegedly speeding, overtaking, not coming to a break at stop signs. BUT WOW, that didn’t stop us from experiencing some raw beauty here.
🚗 We Drove 1,300km
🚂 Took 2 trains
🐪 Rode camels 1.5 hours into the Sahara Desert

I’ll share more about our trip (the pull-overs👮‍♂️) and our interesting stories from Morocco here and on YouTube. We have a lot to share!

This mosque cost $1,000,000,000 to build 🕌 and sits right on the Atlantic coast. It’s one of the largest mosques in the world!

📍 Where It’s Located: The mosque is in Casablanca, Morocco — it’s just a quick taxi ride from the city centre.

💡 Part of the mosque’s floor is made of glass, giving you a view of the incredible ocean below. It holds 100,000+ people.

🎟 Tickets & Tours: Non-Muslim visitors can tour the mosque with a guide. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance, and guided tours are usually available at set times throughout the day.

👟 Dress modestly as a sign of respect, and wear comfortable shoes — there’s a lot of ground to cover! Also, mornings or late afternoons are ideal times to visit for cooler temperatures and beautiful light for photos.

📍 Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca 🇲🇦

What do you think? Is this the most beautiful mosque in the world? 😱

MOROCCO ITINERARY👇 We just wrapped up a 7 day road trip in Morocco! We researched and planned the journey ourselves and it went something like this:

Day 1: Explore Casablanca, then catch train to Marrakesh
Day 2: Full day in Marrakesh
Day 3: Drive to Tinghir via Aït Benhaddou آيت بن حدّو
Day 4: Night in a Sahara Desert camp ⛺️
Day 5-6: Getting lost (literally) in the streets of Fes
Day 7: Return to Casablanca

In one week, we took 2x trains, drove 1,300kms and rode 2x camels for 1.5 into the Sahara Desert! 🐪 New video is up on our YouTube channel ‘Kristina Explores’ - it’s a wild ride!

So happy to share this update from Morocco 🥰 The full episode is now on YouTube!

Sailing YouTube Channel: Kristina’s Travels
New YouTube Channel: Kristina Explores

I know the channel names are a bit similar (and maybe confusing!), but we’ll be rebranding soon. Keep those name suggestions coming… John and Kristina Sails / Kristina’s Travels?! 🤗

We decided to start a second channel for our seperate land based travels because John being an airline pilot, we’re able to travel a lot - and for cheap. 👨‍✈️ That’s because we have access to standby flights — affordable tickets to almost anywhere in the world (although we do get bumped-off flights occasionally 😂). So if you’d like to come along for the ride, head over to our new channel. Our next sailing journey will be running in parallel, on Kristina’s Travels in real-time. 😍 John and I can’t wait to share where we’re sailing next, we’ll have an update soon!!!!! In the meantime, our first travel video will be Morocco and premiere on the 9th November! 🐫
