This is the most beautiful city in Italy you’ve never heard of… Mantova.

Located in the Lombardy region, this stunning city is l surrounded by three lakes.

The city is filled with palaces, frescoes, and hidden canals. After spending a week here, I truly fell in love with the slow pace and charm of this city.

It was not crowded like Milan, Florence, or any other popular city in Italy. Plus, it’s the historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Instead of Florence or Rome, why not try…

Bologna, Italy 🇮🇹

If you love food, you will definitely love Bologna. It’s home to some of the best food in Italy. They invented mortadella, tagliatelle al ragù, tortellini, and more.

The Emilia-Romagna region is famous for its food. Neighbouring cities like Parma have invented Parmesan cheese and Modena is where Balsamic Vinegar comes from.

Plus, there’s far fewer crowds here than Rome and Florence.

It’s so close that you could even day trip here from either city!

Skip the crowds at the Juliet’s Balcony in Verona and head to this secret balcony instead!

I was searching for the best tiramisu in Verona and found this place by accident. To my surprise it was located next door to the immense crowds swarming the entrance to visit Juliet’s balcony.

Located inside a fabric store and up some steps, you’ll find this secret balcony with a view of Juliet’s balcony.

You just need to purchase a tiramisu for €6 to enter. Not bad considering the other balcony costs €22.

🫖 Treat yourself to an afternoon tea at the Marriott County Hall, with a prime view of Big Ben and the London Eye.
🍂 Wander through Regent’s Park to see carpets of colorful leaves and the last blooms of the rose garden.
🍺 Head to The Holly Bush in Hampstead, one of London’s most iconic pubs, perfect for a pint by the fire.
🎃 Visit a nearby pumpkin patch like Hobbledown Heath or Crockford Bridge Farm for an autumn day trip.
👻 Explore the festive Halloween decorations in South Kensington, Notting Hill, and Chelsea — locals go all out!

Instead of the Maldives, why not try.....
Albania 🇦🇱!

It’s so underrated and much more affordable than the Maldives.

Ksamil is the most famous place in Albania. It is often referred to as the Maldives due to its crystal clear waters.

Despite this, I did prefer Himare which definitely has the clear waters of the Maldives too. There are also many hidden beaches with few tourists there! So make sure to do a combo so you see both worlds.

Albania is one of the most underrated countries in Europe — but not for long 👀 It’s quickly becoming one of the trendiest spots on social media, and after spending 10 days here, I totally get why.

You’ll find crystal clear waters like the Maldives, dramatic mountain landscapes, charming UNESCO towns, and delicious food — all without the crowds (or prices) of Greece and Italy 🇦🇱✨

I focused on the South and Central regions, and it blew me away with how diverse, affordable, and less crowded it felt.

Here’s the 10-day route I took 👇

Day 1: Sarande/Ksamil
Day 2: Sarande
Day 3: Ksamil + Butrint Ruins
Day 4: Gjirokastër
Day 5–6: Himare

Here’s a town you’ve probably never heard of… and it ended up being my favorite stop in Albania. 🇦🇱✨

Berat is a UNESCO World Heritage site known as the City of a Thousand Windows — thanks to its white Ottoman houses stacked along the hillside.

It’s photogenic from every angle: cobbled streets, cute cafes, and sweeping views from the castle at the top.
I spent my birthday here, starting the day with a cooking class inside the castle (best meal of the trip!) and ending it with wine at sunset. 🍷

Compared to the busy coastal towns, Berat felt authentic, quiet, and untouched by mass tourism — like stepping back in time.

This is Dhërmi — the prettiest spot along the Albanian Riviera ✨

Imagine the Amalfi Coast in Italy… but with fewer crowds, lower prices, and water so turquoise it doesn’t look real. That’s the Albanian Riviera.

Just 30 minutes away is Himarë, another coastal town, and the whole coastline is dotted with gems like Borsh, Qeparo, and Ksamil.

But for me, Dhërmi was the crown jewel 💎 — a perfect mix of dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear water, and incredible food.

🍋 Start your day with a long, lazy lunch at Luciano, where the view over Dhërmi Beach is just as good as the food.
🐟Take a dip in that unreal turquoise water.
🍷 Have dinner and drinks at Zoe Hora for golden hour views you’ll never forget — or splurge and stay the night at the hotel.

Affordable hotel with a balcony overlooking the beach!

Himare was my favorite part of Albania for beaches 🏝️. Much more quieter than Ksamil & Sarande.

We found a gem here located on Potam beach, this hotel only cost us €100 a night.
It included our very own sunbeds. We literally walked out of our hotel and the beach was there. I actually really loved this beach too! Very accessible and not too overly crowded.

It’s also known to be the best sunset spot in Himare too! Having a wine on this balcony with these views was so magical.

Wow, what a place. This is one of the most viral restaurants in Albania, and I must say, it was impressive.

We tried to book a reservation here, and the staff told us it wasn’t necessary.

This place is HUGE. So, there’s really plenty of space for everyone.

But, I’d still recommend getting there early as it’s super popular.

There are about 3 levels of seating. The bottom is more of a lounge area for cocktails and no food. The second level is where they serve pizza for dinner. And the top level is a more fancy dining experience with a proper restaurant and menu.

Everyone here is on the same Instagram mission! We saw about 4 drones up in the air (including ours!), and so many people were trying to get the perfect shot.

Which did make it feel a bit much, but I still loved it here. It was such a unique spot set up high on the mountain with the most stunning views all around.
