![I know it sounds cheesy, but if you’re someone who struggles to share your feelings or you’re worried your partner will get defensive, or misunderstand, this is a SUPER helpful tool! I tend to be non confrontational, so having emotionally charged conversations is hard for me. This helps me feel safe to share! 🫶🏽
Step 1: Share/Listen - one person shares, the other listens
Step 2: the listener reflects back to the speaker what they heard and checks to make sure they understood correctly
Step 3: Validate - the listener validates the speaker using the sentence “that makes sense because__”
Step 4: Empathize - the listener puts themselves in the other persons shoes by saying “I can imagine that feels__”
Then reverses the rolls. The speaker becomes the listener. Repeat steps 1-4.
Step 5: RESOLUTION - if necessary. Sometimes we don’t need resolution we just want to be validated and understood.
Vulnerability is scary, but worth it!
