5 Things I wish I knew before starting my weight loss journey…

1.  You don’t have to eliminate carbs!

Or any food for that matter!  You can have carbs, chocolate, etc. as long as you stay in a calorie deficit.  You can accomplish this tracking or not tracking calories. Plus, including foods you enjoy will help you stay consistent long term, which is most important!

2. Training 2-3 x week is plenty

What you do outside the gym is more important for weight loss.  Your workouts should build you up, NOT beat you down!  Do something you enjoy, and you can do pain free.

3.  0.5-2lbs is a great pace! 

I see too many people quit because it’s not “fast enough,” when they were actually on a great pace!  Be patient.

4.  Step count and Sleep are actually VERY important!

These are two things to focus on outside the gym!  If you are averaging less than 8,000 steps per day aim for an extra 1,000-2,000 steps a day (15-30min walk). These extra cals burned are low hanging fruit and add up! 

Sleep helps with compliance and recovery!  Poor sleep increases appetite.  7-9hours and high quality sleep will improve recovery, mood, and increase energy.

5.  The scale will go up some weeks and that’s OK!

Look at the trend.  Evaluate the progress every 4-8 weeks.  It will fluctuate day to day or week to week, that’s O.K!  Even if the scale goes up one month, there is so much more to health than the scale.

The #1 mistake during the holidays is focusing on what to restrict.

Instead, focus on ADDING these 3
1. Lean protein 🐠🐓
2. Fiber rich foods 🍓🥦
3. Water 💧 

Why? 

These foods make you feel full longer!

You will have less control of your environment this time of year between traveling, work events, family gatherings, etc. 

And will be with surrounded by delicious desserts, holiday meals, and celebratory drinks.

It’s way easier to resist the temptations or at least limit yourself to one piece of pie or two cookies when you have a FULL STOMACH.

Goals:
Lean Protein:  Aim to have a lean protein source with each meal.

Fiber:  the RDA recommendations are at least 21-25g for women and 30-38g for men. 

Fiber sources:  fruits (especially berries), veggies and whole grains.  If you feel lost with this one google “fiber foods.” There are plenty of good articles with 100s of suggestions.

Water:  At a MINIMUM aim for half you body weight in oz.

#𝟏 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞:

George has been raising 3 kids.

Spending Weekends Traveling (many times to different states) for AAU basketball tournaments.

AND, he was raising a newborn when we first started, so his sleep and life routine was completely unpredictable!

George has a very demanding job, and is basically glued to his chair for 8 hours a day.

PLUS he has to commute well over an hour into the city a couple days a week.

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰 𝘕𝘖𝘛 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘺𝘮!

#𝟐 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦:

Metabolism is a great BUZZ word these days. 

Whenever you see “Metabolism” online or on a Nutrition label, I can almost guarantee that they are SELLING YOU.

I constantly get weight loss results for parents in the 40-60 range. 

Just look at George’s pics.  It had NOTHING to do with his Metabolism ‼️🙄

𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘕𝘖𝘛 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯!

Coaches need Coaches too.

Ryan was competing in the World Championship 70.3 mile Ironman at St. George, Utah 🤯

He is an absolute beast of an athlete 🏃‍♂️🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️

He wanted to 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 and 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝟏𝟓𝐥𝐛𝐬, leading up to the event.

This is not an easy thing to do.  As an endurance athlete you need a lot of calories to perform, especially at that level!

We had to:
1.  Be Accurate with our nutrition plan
2.  Adjust to his body often
3.  Keep an eye on how his performance.
4.  Choose high quality foods rich in Nutrients.

The discipline and accountability had to be there, every day mattered.

You can start humming the “Rocky Music.” now. 🥊

Well, he lost 15lbs in 3 months!

And, he felt like he was actually eating more‼️

Most importantly, the Results??

He finished with his Personal Best‼️

Combining Adductor + T-spine in your mobility is important for a health back 🏥

Set up:
1.  All 4’s, hands under shoulders, knees under Hips
2. Keep hands driving through floor
3. Straighten 1-Leg directly out to side 
4. Sit butt back to heels 
5. Hand grabs opposite ribs and stays there!
6. Keeping hips in same place (sitting back) rotate to straight leg side

*If knee pain when sitting butt back choose a different variation.
