Here’s a quick snapshot inside my prenatal class at atlpelvichealth last week. 

• I always begin and end with breathwork. Intentional breathwork is your parter in targeting pelvic floor engagement and, just as important, pelvic floor release.

• A favorite prenatal class “prop” of mine is the theraband. I love using it for spine stretches and chest openers in addition to general arm work. 

• Speaking of arm work! These strong ladies are in their second trimester and felt really good about peppering in 5lb weights to our targeted arm series. 

If you’ve taken my prenatal classes you know i loooove an arm series.  There are a few reasons why— 

1. Posture. Whether you are sitting, kneeling, or standing during an arm work series it’s a great time to hone in on your full body alignment, and your core’s role maintaining that form. 

2. As mothers we carry a LOT! (Have you heard?!) It’s important to appropriately build up your stamina and strength for the journey ahead. Think carrying a car seat, and a toddler! Holding baby during feeding and nap sessions. Pushing a stroller up a hill. All body positions that require proper form and arm strength so we don’t dump into our backs or necks. 

3. The mind x body connection. I love looking towards birth as a mental exercise. I like to ditch the straps or weights and use certain arm work exercises as mind over muscle “challenges”. We are capable of doing so much, and I love showing my prenatal women how strong they are.

• Moving on! For the lower body we prioritized hip openers and a few types of lunges / skaters. 

Some days the priority is feeling strong in your pregnant body, and other days it’s just about feeling comfortable.

Strength training has officially been added to my weekly workout routine and I’m in lovvveee. As an almost-38-year-old I’m super eager and excited to prioritize all kinds of functional movement challenges, in addition to Pilates. I’ve always been the person reaching for the 2lb weights and it’s been a happily humbling experience to dial that up.

This, but 2.5x slower. Instructors will tell you the slower you go, the more you’ll unlock the deep core and targeted muscles we’re aiming to challenge and this routine really tested that. 

They might look easy but these roll downs, and the return to standing, were the most challenging part of this routine for me. 🔥The deep scooping of the abs needed was intense, and something you would completely miss if you moved quickly. And looking at this, I’m definitely cheating myself of deeper range. Next time!

A big thank you to Norris contourpilatesatl for this routine. I got to observe him teaching this yesterday and was excited to take it on as my work for today.

Snow days + no childcare = canceled classes and stiff bodies. I took advantage of an early morning empty class to finally move! 

A goal for 2025 is to prioritize more time as a student myself, and I’m thankful for this time I got today.

I feel very lucky to be a part of thestudio.atl fam. The clients and instructors are the best, and they inspire me daily. 🫶🏼

My mom started her own private pilates practice 20 years ago, turning our basement into a home studio. Her clients have become some of her closest friends and I’m pretty certain she will never retire. It’s “the hundred” into her 100’s I’m sure 😂.
