I wrote this three years ago on an old IG post. It’s good to hold one’s self accountable, to review old goals and see how far I’ve come, and what still could be.
Not out of humility but genuine bewilderment, I was surprised to learn last Thursday that I was a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award in the 16th Annual Sprudgie Awards. (For my non-coffee friends, this is a distinction in our industry!) I don’t do what I do to receive kudos nor require an award to understand the impact of the work I try to do, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t validating in some ways.
Thank you again to those of you who felt compelled to nominate me. Simply knowing I crossed your mind in a positive way gives me joy and if I knew who you were I would not be surprised if you cross my mind similarly and frequently! Thank you to my spouse mpcallahan_ whose support fuels me even in the heaviest of times, without whom I would not be able to pursue my goals freely.
Thank you sprudge and baristaseries for taking the time year after year to recognize all the finalists and winners of Sprudgies. The reverberations of ‘seeing’ people are powerful and can truly propel people forward when we least expect it. A reminder to all to take the time to appreciate those around you, no matter the magnitude of impact.
And lastly, an affirmation that emerged from this news for me: the resources you need to grow may not always come from an established business, no matter how much they may seemingly throw at you. At the same time, you cannot be the best version of yourself alone. If we can lean on and learn from one another, we might just be fine.

![Yesterday was my last day ggetla the best place I’ve ever worked. Today begins my month-long hiatus from all things work.
I've accomplished a great deal during my near 9 years of working for GGET. From leaving my stable position at Intelli in 2013 to work at G&B+GGET way before the famed NYT article was published, to managing our first few stores and then eventually becoming GGET’s Director of Cafe Experience. I've helped open ten stores, I've faced the highest highs executing the style of service the company has become known for, and the lowest lows that any startup has probably encountered. I’ve witnessed so many wonderful, hardworking humans blossom, and while that has all to do with them and only some sliver a part of it to do with me, I see positively impacting folks as a duty and a win, always. I am truly proud of the work I've done.
I hardly ever have opportunity to talk about my own experiences with anyone outside my GGET community, so perhaps for some of you this is news. This has been the last almost decade of my life, which I have blissfully spent much of providing support and advocating for the excellent people I work with. I won’t go without advocating for myself in this moment, so you're getting this GGET history lite.
Were it not for the guidance and mentorship of the G (glanvillain) and the B (charlesbabinski), I would not be able to fully unlock who I am. I chuckle at all the coffee bros who wish they could have worked with them and all I have to say to y’all is: welp. Kyle Glanville and Charles Babinski are and continue to be the two best people I know to work for, and they inspired me well before I even worked in the same company, before anyone was willing to give inexperienced me a chance.
The last three years of being alive during a pandemic have been brutal for many, and I have not been invulnerable to it. I count myself lucky to have continued working, and GGET has been a refuge to me and many others. Seeking a hard reset, I'm hopeful after taking this break I can carve a new path for myself that will allow me to thrive on my own terms, as well as serve a community beyond the one that I've already been cultivating at GGET.
