Celebrated Reece’s 1st birthday par-tee and baptism surrounded by our favorite people last weekend 🎈⛳️🧁🩵🕊️ I can’t believe we’re parents to a 1 year old!! I haven’t had much time to process the year it’s been but our heart’s are so full of love for our little guy!There’s truly nothing quite like seeing the world through his eyes. It’s like he turned into a toddler overnight. I find myself wishing I could slow down time pretty often but he’s shown us how to be more present and savor every single fleeting moment. I have so much more to say about this year once I figure out how to put it into words. At 2:46 am on July 28th, I texted my doula tiaresarahi telling her I thought I was losing my mucus plug and was feeling really crampy. She told me to try to get some rest but the way the pain was increasing, there was no way I would be able to lay in bed and close my eyes. Around 5am, I took a hot shower which helped ease contractions a lot and later I proceeded to throw up a few times. My doula then arrived at our home around 7:30am. I tried to labor at home for as long as I could but around 9am, we decided it was time to go in. I think I was more nervous about not making it to the hospital in time more than anything. When we got to triage, I was almost 4cm dialated (which felt like at least 6). So they admitted me into my room. One of the hardest parts of the whole experience was trying to get my IV in because they couldn’t really find a vein (which I feel like no one warned me about lol). But as soon as that was in, I was chilling in the bath tub until like 10pm. We felt like I wasn’t progressing so I got out and then things really escalated. After throwing up a few more times, I was so exhausted and everyone recommended I get some rest. I gave myself until midnight before I would consider calling in the big guys (the epidural). I genuinely only imagined Lupo and my doula being in the room for the entire thing, but during a 23 hour labor, I needed all the support I could get. One of my favorite pictures!! I was 1, my mom was 19 and we had just immigrated here. My mom left her family. Her mom, dad, siblings behind for a better life for me, for us. Without my parents sacrifices, strength and bravery, I wouldn’t be where I am today. So yes, I have an obligation to speak up for those who can’t. And yes, I’d also do anything for my baby, including going to another country, crossing any border in order to give him a better life. What’s happening rn isn’t just political, it’s personal. 10 years of coachella into 20 slides. After years of saying “this will be my last year” I finally sat this one out with my baby boy but I seriously can’t wake to take Reece one day 🤭 also, what I would give to dance with itzy on the last slide. Reece’s first Disneyland visit was so much fun!!! 🐭🏰🎈The last time we were here it was 2014 and Lupo and I had just started dating. How full circle is it to get to see it through our baby boy’s eyes. Every little corner seemed magical to him but also he was so unphased on the rides meanwhile the rest of us were like 🫨 He even slept through the Alice and wonderland one 🤭 10/10 recommend bringing headphones. It was really smooth sailing with our stroller and carrier combo. Loved being able to mobile order everything (mommy got a little excited ordering everything like it was her first time there —hence the detailed list). Also, baby centers were key for a little less distracted nursing and changing sessions. Shoutout ashleytel for all the Disney tips 💕 Disney moms, I GET THE HYPE NOW. Can’t wait to be back soon!! March gave everything it needed to and then some 💫 She’s really “blooming, in the softest way possible” 🌷 What you see on the outside: A month full of babbles “ma-ma”, teething, solids, heating up to crawl, crib sleeps, swim lessons, sunshine and zoo dates. What I feel on the inside: Anxiety about returning to work, feeling left out around those who aren’t moms or disconnected from those who are second time moms, overthinking if I’m doing enough, guilt about doing things for myself, yet feeling much more confident as a mom, supported by family and community and mentally, emotionally and physically stronger. Slowly and surely I’ve been learning to take up more space and shoot my shot more in different ways as I build new support systems and strengthen community.
