I very rarely post reels on the main 😅 but now that I’m back in Canada for a few weeks, I’m feeling so nostalgic for the last month’s lazy summer days by the Marmara Sea. One of my favourite things about living in Istanbul is being able to literally take public transit to beautiful beaches. I love laying out on a public beach in the Mediterranean so much more than any resort or beach club. It feels like I’m part of a collective of stolen moments, of folks making the most of every sunny day and ocean breeze whenever they can fit in a few minutes or hours by the water. if you want to be majorly humbled I recommend spending the month 1– taking adult swimming lessons at the community pool (at the same time as mommy-and-me swim, and in the same pool lol) 2– learning to cook in expensive french cookware that you never should have put on credit years ago 3– taking lessons in a language you didn’t grow up speaking/surrounded by 4– learning to budget and face tax debt and student loans 5– doing a 30-day meditation challenge coupled with a 30-day yoga challenge hm yeaahh march was humbling but satisfying, too. it’s worth noting that I also got some good cat cuddles in my new place and beat my mom and brother at glow-in-the-dark mini putt. 🙃 2024-04-04 03:48:32 if you w.. 146 +25% 9 +25%

my 2023 looked great on paper—I traveled to seventeen countries, I finished my first book manuscript, I’ve nearly wrapped a master’s degree, I wrote travel narratives for BBC Travel, Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure… but in reality, it was the most difficult year of my adult life, filled with a lot of self-doubt, shame, fear, and discomfort. I’m not sure what I want to achieve by posting this.
