![Back on the road from Shandur Pass — way up in the mountains, where the road is badly washed out and covered in rocks. It makes every meter a challenge. Just to give you an idea: 38 kilometers took me over two hours.
Eventually, I reached the first village on the other side and was finally able to pick up the pace a bit. Let me tell you, the valleys in Pakistan are something else. Wild, vast, unforgettable. After riding nearly 400 kilometers in just two days, I arrived at Kalash Valley — a place unlike any other, home to a people with their own culture, language, and religion.
I’m curious to learn more… but first, I need to rest.

![I’m so glad I stopped in that village yesterday — it turned out to be the last one before the pass. If I had kept going, I would’ve had to ride for hours more in freezing wind. But this morning, I woke up feeling renewed and ready to move on. Right outside the village, I spotted a group of baby yaks — absolutely adorable. The road began to climb fast, reaching 3,300 meters, and as I gained altitude, the terrain got more unpredictable.
I passed a few checkpoints and made it up to 3,700 meters before the descent began. I wasn’t expecting this route to be so remote, so wild — surrounded by snow-capped peaks, even in summer. If this is what it looks like now… I can’t imagine it in winter.

![Today’s plan was ambitious — 400 kilometers, lots of altitude changes, and a good dose of uncertainty. I knew it would all depend on the road conditions, but one thing was clear: I was heading west.
Early on, I had to wait an hour and a half for the road to reopen. Once moving again, the scenery just kept getting better. Rivers grew wider, the terrain rougher — rocky, bumpy, unpredictable. I crossed a few water streams and tried to keep the pace steady.
But this kind of riding always comes with consequences. At some point, the bike felt off — was that a flat tire?

![Today I had to head a bit south before turning west, which meant a change of scenery was coming. I rode through a valley known to be home to snow leopards and Marco Polo sheep — though luckily, it’s summer, so no leopard encounters today.
The road, though… it pushed me. Tight rocky turns, barely enough room for Frankie, and a steep drop right beside me. There wasn’t much space for mistakes. And just when I thought I could breathe, a hanging bridge appeared — of course. Not exactly my favorite.
But eventually, the landscape shifted again. Green returned.
And I arrived in Gilgit, a little more tired, a little more grounded. What a ride!

![It weren’t many kilometers today, but the ride took time — slow going and on unpaved tracks. Early on, I stopped to help a fellow motorcyclist stuck on road, then kept going, not knowing exactly what kind of terrain lay ahead. The track was wild. One moment I was riding next to the river, and the next I was high up on the mountain, looking down into the valley below. The landscape kept shifting — loose gravel, patches of sand, even narrow hanging bridges that creaked under the tires.
It was one of the most challenging routes of Pakistan… and one of the most beautiful. Eventually, I made it to Shimshal — a remote village tucked deep in the mountains — and it was time to give Frankie a bit of love. She definitely earned it today.

![Today’s goal was to get close to the Afghan border, but first, I had a few unforgettable stops to make. Attabad Lake completely took my breath away — its water glows in a shade of blue that doesn’t feel real. Then came the Passu Cones, rising like stone needles out of the earth. The geology here is on another level!
As I rode through the villages, everything slowed down. Apple trees, apricots, cherries.. These places are so peaceful, and so full of life. The road kept climbing until I reached 3,000 meters. Somewhere up there, I spotted yaks grazing by the roadside, as if they were part of the landscape itself.
This valley is magical..

![A calm, different kind of morning in Skardu. I hiked up to Kharpocho Fort and soaked in its incredible 360° views — the valley stretching endlessly in every direction. Then I stopped by the Manthal Buddha Rock, carved quietly into the stone, holding centuries of history.
Leaving the valley, I couldn’t take my eyes off the landscape. I was heading toward a small village known for its gemstones and minerals.
Eventually, I found the gem market — and the pieces here are massive. A quick stop, a few treasures in my pocket, and then I had to keep moving. Dark clouds were building fast, and I needed to make it out of the valley before the rain hit. The road here can be dangerous when it’s wet.
Just before the weather turned, I reached Hunza Valley. What a place to end the day..

![A new day begins in Besham, and after a night of hail and lightning, the sky finally clears. Things are looking promising — no escort today, and if all goes well, I’ll reach the village near Nanga Parbat, the 8,126-meter peak.
But of course, there’s a catch. A section of the road ahead is closed for eight hours each day, and I have no idea when I’ll get there — or if they’ll even let me pass.
The ride through Kohistan is nothing short of spectacular. Waterfalls crash down from the cliffs, the landscape is wild and untamed, and it feels like I’m riding deeper into something ancient.
This road is legendary, and now I understand why. The final stretch looks like it could collapse at any moment… but I keep going.

Just had to battle a little heatwave and lots and lots of police escorts, but here I am!! ![I’m starting to get the hang of how things work around here. By now, I’ve been escorted by all kinds of police forces — anti-terror squads, the “No Fears,” ATS commandos, regular police… some are fun and efficient, others are slow and exhausting.
The road continues, and the scenery keeps getting more dramatic, more beautiful. Massive mountains, winding valleys — the kind of landscapes that take your breath away, even when you’re too tired to fully enjoy them.

I had 274 kilometers ahead, riding the famous Karakoram Highway, which climbs fast and doesn’t hold back. ![I had 350 kilometers ahead of me to reach Islamabad, but not before stopping for breakfast. The food was delicious — and like so many times before, they simply wouldn’t let me pay. People here are incredibly kind.
As I rode on, the scenery slowly began to change. The road started to climb, the air turned cooler, and the flatlands gave way to the edge of the mountains. By the time I reached Islamabad, I was surprised by how green the city felt — quiet, spacious, full of trees.
I explored a bit, starting with the Pakistan Monument, and later visited the sixth-largest mosque in the world. Its architecture is unlike anything I’ve seen before.

![Every time I check into a hotel, the police shows up the next morning asking where I’m going and when I’m leaving. There’s no avoiding it — they always find me. The hardest part isn’t the escort itself, but the slow pace. They often go 20 km/h and switch every 10 km, so progress is very slow.
