Just got back from my first virginvoyages cruise and wow, just wow! I never thought I’d be a cruise person, but I’m officially obsessed. This is not your average cruise. Think over 20 eateries in their food hall, and 7 incredible sit down restaurants (no buffets, no boring food… every meal was next-level). Daily gym classes with ocean views, the most gorgeous spa, and nonstop entertainment from wild interactive shows to karaoke, trivia, drag bingo and more. The vibe was fun, flirty, and full of energy from morning till night. And the best part? Almost everything is included. WiFi, soft drinks, gratuities, fitness classes, amazing dining……all covered so you can just relax and enjoy. Virgin completely reimagined what cruising can be. If you’ve ever said “I’m not a cruise person”… trust me, one Virgin Voyage will change your mind. Iceland part l. Iceland will always hold such a special place in my heart. Almost exactly 8 years ago I started my travel blog here. My very first post was about Iceland and to this day it is still my most-read. Back then the trip was bittersweet. I came to return my wedding ring during one of the most painful and uncertain chapters of my life while also preparing to spend 10 months across Europe directing and producing a women’s empowerment documentary. I cried so much that trip, barely ate, barely slept…..horrible… This time could not have been more different. I came back stress free and overflowing with love, from my amazing partner and from myself. Every day was filled with laughter, adventure, closeness, and pure joy. To stand in the same breathtaking landscapes that once held my saddest memories and now experience them as my happiest, feels like magic. Life has a way of surprising you when you trust the process. (The funny thing is when I came to Iceland the first time unknowing the fate of the trip, I wore a shirt saying “,trust the process”. )The irony!!! Sometimes it really does come full circle and when it does, it is better than you ever imagined. I feel so grateful to create new memories in one of the most beautiful places on Earth and to feel nothing but utter happiness this time around. Thank you God. Staying at the panoramaglasslodge in Iceland felt like living inside a dream. Floor to ceiling glass walls, a private jacuzzi and sauna, and views of the river that made even the rainy days feel impossibly romantic. I fell asleep under the stars, woke up with hot tea and a book, and started my mornings with a soak before stepping into the sauna. Every moment here felt like pure magic. If you are planning a trip to Iceland, this is one stay you cannot miss. Centrally located, unbelievably cozy, and unlike anywhere else in the world. When people ask me where to stay in Iceland, I always recommend the central South Coast. It is the perfect base for exploring the Golden Circle and the South Coast, and it is my favorite area to stay. Our first stop was landhotel_is and it was perfect after a long flight. The rooms were the largest I have stayed in while in Iceland, the breakfast was plentiful, and the outdoor hot tub was incredible for relaxing after hiking and a day’s worth of exploring. The location felt remote and peaceful, with Icelandic ponies nearby, yet it was still close to Hella, a small town with restaurants, cafés, and even a school bus coffee shop. (We went twice cuz it was so cute and unique!) The hotel is new and well maintained, the staff were so helpful, and they even let us check in early. The price is very fair for Iceland, especially for the size of the superior room we stayed in, and I was so happy to have such a comfortable space with a large bathroom as well when we arrived. They also do a happy hour with cocktails and the lobby area and bar seemed pretty happening in the evening! If you are visiting Iceland, I truly recommend staying here. It makes me sad when people go to Iceland and just book hotels in Reykjavik. The ultimate road trip from LA, and the nature escape I didn’t know I needed. We left LA at 5am and hit the road. First stop was Peggy Sue’s Diner in Yermo, then Seven Magic Mountains for a quick photo and coffee just outside of Vegas. We headed straight to Zion and checked into Zion Wildflower Resort. Lunch at Oscar’s was great, the town is full of cute small businesses we loved supporting. That evening, we hiked Canyon Overlook Trail for sunset. It’s short, easy, and stunning. (1.5 miles) The next morning we hiked The Narrows, a wet trail through the river. At times briefly , the water was waist deep. Bring waterproof shoes and be ready to get a little wet. . We did about 8 to 9 miles, but you can go as far as you want. The following day we did Observation Point Trail, a 7-mile round-trip hike with panoramic views over Angels Landing. If you can’t get a permit for Angels, this is a perfect alternative. This was my favorite view and the highest in Zion. There were so many cute little ground squirrels wanting to be fed. Next we drove to Bryce Canyon, had lunch, and checked into Clear Sky Resorts — a dome hotel where you can stargaze all night. We hiked Queens Garden and Navajo Loop, went ATV riding, and visited all the best viewpoints: Sunrise, Sunset, Bryce, and Inspiration Points. You only need 15 to 20 minutes at each and they’re all breathtaking. From there we drove to Page, Arizona with a stop in Kanab for lunch. We explored the Sand Caves, visited Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, and hiked Wahweap Hoodoo before arriving in Page. We stopped by Glen Canyon Dam and had lunch at the Lake Powell marina. On the last morning, we went to Horseshoe Bend at sunrise, found the secret cave behind the gas station, and toured Lower Antelope Canyon — less crowded and just as stunning. We ended the trip with sunset by the lake. Six days total, and only six hours from LA. After Zion, we made the short hour and a half drive to Bryce Canyon national park stopping at a couple of cute little spots along the way. We spent two action packed days exploring Bryce, then headed to Page, Arizona, passing through Kanab, Utah. The entire drive was absolutely stunning, with so many beautiful and easy stops right off the highway, like the Toadstool Hoodoos hike, the Moqui Sand Caves, and even a massive animal sanctuary that’s home to over 1,600 rescued animals, the largest of its kind in the US. We found great little local cafes, unique landscapes, and nonstop scenery the whole way. Mark and I even got caught walking in a dust devil. Omg that was terrifying actually, glad I can laugh about it now. I seriously cannot recommend Southern Utah enough. If you live in California, Nevada, or anywhere nearby, you have to do this road trip. It’s been one of my all-time favorite adventures, and the best part is, it’s all right here at home. No passport or long-haul flight needed. One of the most beautiful place I’ve been in the US and it’s only 6.5 hours from LA! Zion is a total dream for nature lovers with amazing hikes, epic viewpoints, and scenic drives everywhere you look. I still can’t believe a place this peaceful and stunning is so close to home in California and I had never been! Southern Utah in general is unreal and honestly the ultimate road trip. If you’re heading to Zion, definitely add Bryce Canyon to your list. It’s only 90 minutes away and so worth it. And if you have more time, there are so many other incredible spots all throughout southern Utah and Arizona. We spent six full days hiking, exploring, and just being out in nature. Getting our sunrise steps in every morning was one of the best parts. I can’t recommend this road trip enough! If you’re someone who can’t make it to Europe for vacation, I would say visit some of the beautiful national and state parks we are lucky enough to have in the US! There’s something for everyone! The hikes we recommend: Canyon overlook: great for sunset: 1 mile RT, easy, family friendly. Watchman trail: 3 miles RT The Narrows: prepare to get wet, rent waterproof hiking boots and walking stick from town shops. Mileage up to you, we did about 9 miles RT Observation Point: Hike at sunrise from East Mesa Trail, NOT canyon- 7 miles Emerald Pools: 3 miles RT depending how far you go and how many pools you see, (upper, lower) Angel’s Landing: IF you can get a permit and are a strong hiker. We had the most incredible stay clearskyresorts near Bryce Canyon. It’s one of the only open sky dome stays in North America, and it instantly reminded me of staying in a similar stargazing dome in the middle of the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan. Such a unique and magical experience, and I’m so happy something like this has come to North America. We loved waking up in our huge dome to sunlit mountain views, roasting marshmallows by the fire, enjoying live music at dinner, playing board games and star gazing at night searching for constellations in the dark sky. Just 20 minutes from the stunning hikes in Bryce Canyon, this is truly a bucket list stay you’ll never forget. Yes, I really do get to work in this sexy, chic office in Sunset Plaza, and not only that, I get to do it alongside some of my closest friends and favorite people. Total dream, right? This is where we shoot the hit Netflix show Selling Sunset also, and trust me, the energy here is just as glamorous, wild, and inspiring as it looks on screen. Working on the legendary Sunset Strip, selling luxury real estate (including celebrity homes of people I used to watch in movies as a kid) still blows my mind. I remember coming to LA as a teenager, driving through the hills thinking, Who lives in these insane houses? Fast forward, and now I’ve toured some of the most expensive homes in the country, I recently stepped through the doors of one listed at $195 million. Like… what?! For a small-town girl from Iowa, it feels surreal. But that’s what happens when you lead with big ambition and even bigger belief in yourself.
