Behind the scenes with a brand I know you’ll love…
castleryuk founded in Singapore in 2013, now huge in the US has just launched here in the UK 🇬🇧

I met the founder this week and hearing their story made me so inspired. From creating pieces out of necessity (when you can’t find what you’re looking for, make it yourself!) to building a global brand, it really resonated with me, just like when we built The Black House and I had to design my own lighting, sofa, and cabinetry.

The collection is authentic, timeless and modern all at once. Brilliant design, great quality, we’re so lucky to have them here 🤎

They’ve even opened a London pop-up (where these photos were taken). I’ve been, and it’s such a nice space to hang out in, definitely worth a visit. 2025-09-20 14:01:48 .. 0 -100% 36 -54%
ad I’m pleased to be partnering with castleryuk a brand who are finally here in the UK.

For me, great design is always about more than how something looks, it’s about how it feels. The tactility of a rug underfoot, the comfort of a sofa you sink into, the glow of a lamp in the evening, the presence of tables that ground the space.

This balance of warmth and materiality is at the heart of Scandi living and hygge, and it’s why Castlery’s pieces resonate so much with my own design ethos. They’re timeless, elevated, but always inviting.

You’re invited to the Castlery London Townhouse! Come in. Sit down. Stay awhile. Get an exclusive walk-in vouchers and grab the limited Castlery goody bag!

This is the earliest I think I’ve ever done it on here but I am going all in with the ‘C’ word! And I am here for it! I am a little obsessed with libertylondon and a member of their Beauty Drop! If you don’t know about it you need to know. It feels like such a treat every month.

I was over the moon to be invited to celebrate their iconic advent Calendar! If you swipe across to the end you’ll see a sneak peek of what’s inside. I also got to meet the illustrator of the box! So talented, clymdraws

And on a different note, I need the rain to go away, my hair can’t handle it! I have that hair that just expands with even a single drop of water 💧 2025-09-08 23:42:39 This is .. 0 -100% 79 +2%
There’s no August round-up because it’s the month I lost my friend 💔

We met through Instagram, but she quickly became that friend, the one I always shared a room with or sat next to at dinner, the one I’d check outfits with so we didn’t turn up in the same thing, the one who had my back as much as I had hers.

We danced together in Ibiza, we laughed our way through long lunches at Dishoom, and we supported each other’s careers like they were our own.

She was the cool one, the kind one, the funny one, the friend I wish I had known for longer.

ad I’m proud to be introducing castleryuk to the UK and showcasing a Brand that might be new to you.

Home, for me, has always been about how it feels, calm, comforting, and connected to the way we actually live.

Their calm, considered approach to design aligns so closely with how I live, write, and create from the objects I design for your home to the spaces I shape. You’ll know by now how passionate I am about interiors that engage the senses and how often I talk about hygge.

This partnership is a natural continuation of that, a shared commitment to homes that are lived in, timeless, and grounded in tranquillity.

I chose and styled every piece in this room with that in mind, from the natural textures and softness of the Cora Wool Area Rug, to the sculptural form of the floor lamp, the solid wood nest of tables, and a sofa that gently invites you to take a seat.

If you’re ready to explore and start curating comfort in your own space…Castlery's sale is now live.

ad My daily coffee shop ritual has been replaced by something slower and honestly, better.

With the girls home for the summer, mornings are quieter and with the kitchenaid_uk Fully Automatic Espresso Machine KF8, I can make barista-style coffee in my own kitchen. You can personalise it not just with your name (which I really appreciate with quite a unique name like mine), but you can also choose the temperature and strength.

I know I am not alone with a coffee being my first ritual of the day before anyone else is awake. The machine is so quiet, which makes all the difference in a house full of noise.

I’m still craving iced lattes even in a classic British downpour. But that’s the joy of this season, even if it’s grey outside, my rituals are still golden.

Who else is navigating the Summer holidays?!

It’s been chaotic as usual behind the scenes and July has been a whirlwind month with lots of shoots at ‘The Black House.’ We have got very lucky with sunny days every time. Here’s a little recap of July before we head into August:

1 ~ Lots of projects shot here this month, will share later this year!
2 ~ We have owned ‘The Black House’ since 2018 but only this year did we landscape the front with dig_club using the theme I co-designed with them, ‘The Nordic.’
3 ~ Outdoor swimming is the best!
4 ~ When your friend pauljameslynch sends you a pic of your book styled hmhome on Regent Street 🫶🏽
5 ~ Me & the Teenager going to a Ball!
6 ~ I’ve always said that ‘The Black House’ comes to life in the summer! Love the dappled light ✨
7 ~ Beach days at good old Barry Island!
8 ~ The youngest not realising how many people would love to have those curls!
9 ~ The middle one turned 11! It’s going too fast.
10 ~ Went to Gothenburg in Sweden 🇸🇪 for photoshoots!
11 ~ Yes this month was all about ‘The Black House!’ Outdoor lighting is key for atmosphere and mood!
12 ~ I was sent lumitylife vitamins and enjoying instilling a new & long overdue routine!
13 ~ The one who turned 11 when she was tiny 🥰
14 ~ More photoshoots on location with the best maxlightltd
15 ~ I get my nails done religiously every 3-4 weeks! Gold French tips for July. What next?!
16 ~ A stunning package from the most gorgeous brand verden.world

ad I was invited to the johnlewis press show in London, where two of their new seasonal looks are rooted in Scandi (&) Rustic, the same aesthetic I’ve built my book and brand around.

It felt like a full-circle moment. Back in 2022, I launched their first-ever Scandi Edit… and to see the style still influencing their direction feels incredibly special.

The space was beautiful, warm, tactile, and super cosy.

I adore London and it’s always a joy to take you behind the scenes. These are the moments that inspire me most.

One of the best things about this app is the friendships it’s brought, both online and off. One of the joys of my weekly London trips is catching up with my dear friend hillhousevintage

We have both built careers that go beyond content creating: writing books, building brands, and saying yes to more. Paula is endlessly inspiring, and it was such a joy to celebrate the launch of her second book. I loved her first and this one is already lined up as my holiday read.

She’s one of my ultimate work wives, she hears it all: the wins, the wobbles, and always manages to offer wisdom (and the odd voice note rant!) for free 😂🫶🏽

ad Golden hour, my favourite time of day, is it yours too? I look forward to it because every corner of the garden feels softer, warmer, and cosier.

It’s also when outdoor lighting can truly work its magic. I have partnered with corstonarchitecturaldetail and installed their new Cambridge garden lights alongside their Ealing range. Thoughtfully designed with matching finishes and refined details, they help create a cohesive flow that feels calm and welcoming.

Being able to shape and direct the light exactly where I want it means the garden glows long after the sun has set. I love the way it lights up The Black House. Every piece is engineered and crafted in-house, so the quality and finish feel beautifully considered. Made with durable, sustainably sourced materials, the lights are built to last for years to come.

Lighting is never just about visibility, it’s about creating a feeling. Long may these slow summer evenings continue. 2025-07-05 13:21:59 ad Golden hour, my fa.. 0 -100% 78 +0%

ad Just returned from a few days immersed in the world of casa_la_siesta a calming, design led boutique hotel in Andalucía founded and designed by Lee Thornley, whose vision has long inspired me.

You might also know Lee as the founder of bertandmay , the heritage tile and materials brand behind so many beautiful spaces, including parts of my own home. Hearing how he built this place from the ground up was a reminder of how thoughtful design can completely transform how we feel.

Every corner at Casa La Siesta feels considered: reclaimed materials and tiles were used on every wall, floor and ceiling. It created an atmosphere of ease that stays with you and is hard to describe!

We spent our time wandering the Bert & May reclamation yard (where centuries-old finds are brought back to life), sharing slow breakfasts in the courtyard, evenings with sundowners at The Stables, and dinners under the stars in Vejer.

If you ever find yourself near Cádiz, don’t miss the whitewashed streets of Vejer de la Frontera, long lunches in sunlit plazas, and treasures waiting at Bert & May.

This trip felt so aligned with the ideas I share in my course on creating a tranquil home, spaces rooted in authenticity, materiality, and a connection to nature.

5 Reasons to Buy a Bungalow and Why I’d Do It Again …

When we bought our 1960s bungalow, it didn’t have a first floor and it certainly wasn’t love at first sight! It wasn’t on a street lined with period or beautiful properties because it’s a house behind a house. But it had something better, potential!

Bungalows often sit on wider plots, with front gardens that can become driveways and they can offer flexibility.

We extended upwards and out, and we knocked down a lot of walls to create an open plan living space.

I think they are adaptable too, serving us well now with our three girls but will still work when we are older and if they leave home one day!

It might not be everyone’s dream home on paper. But for us, a bungalow was the most adaptable and rewarding decision we could’ve made.

So here’s to all the humble bungalows out there which are often overlooked but worth a second look! Hope you have a lovely weekend. 2025-06-14 20:56:54 5 Reaso.. 1,783 +2,400% 55 -29%
My first WOW!house experience! If you don’t know it’s hosted designcentrech at Chelsea’s Harbour’s Design Centre and showcases leading designers work where they’ve recreated full-scale rooms you can actually walk through and feel.

My personal highlights:

My friend and talented interior designers alexandriadauley Date Night room captured something we all need more of! The design felt real and personal and the materiality was divine as expected! 🫶🏽

And I also adored toniblack.official “Home Bar” a space with beautifully curved furniture and an emotional room where she wove in a painting by her own daughter.

And jomalonelondon showing how scent belongs in the design conversation. Céline Roux’s words, “Scent is an extension of the aesthetic of the home!” I couldn’t agree more.

I’ve been away from home this week and it’s sometimes only when I’m not there thinking about my never ending to do list that I really reflect and appreciate it. I also realised I show you the doors downstairs quite a lot but not so much of the upstairs! We gave up a lot of functional wall space in our home for views out but I think it’s been worth it! Sometimes design isn’t about what you might lose but what you will gain & forces you to be clever and make spaces work harder!

I’ll pop on stories what I’ve been up too, it’s another half and half week between home in Cardiff and work in London.

If you’re obsessed with materials… this one’s for you. These are the details I get asked about the most. The doors. The cladding. The rattan-textured cupboards. The plaster in the bathroom. The marble.

Yes, they look beautiful, but more importantly, they feel right. Because that’s what designing a tranquil home is really about. I’ve had my fair share of drama, and honestly how this space has made me feel, not just how it looks has kept me going.

If you are renovating or want to design a space that feels calm, I’ve recorded a course with createacademyofficial which teaches you how you can do the same 🫶🏽

ad I’ve loved ikeauk for as long as I can remember, because of how it has shaped how we live with design. STOCKHOLM has always stood out to me as one of their most considered collections - calm, tactile, and timeless.

When I first saw the new STOCKHOLM pieces in Milan, I loved it right away. The oak, the hand-finished ceramics and the simplicity. Now that the collection has a place in our home, it’s become part of our everyday: the cabinet is the perfect backdrop for a “dead space” behind the dining table, the vase feels like a still moment, and we reach for the mugs without a second thought.

This year marks 40 years of STOCKHOLM, that’s four decades of Scandinavian design rooted in nature and crafted to last. I adore it!

This week’s Sunday Soirée is about two things:

A very good suede jacket! And the moment I spotted the book I co-authored, ‘Scandi Rustic’ at the Next Summer Home Show.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between polished content and the everyday things that actually seem to land. And sharing more of the BTS moments and what I get up to every week in London!

Turns out it’s often the unplanned bits, the slightly unfiltered, ordinary moments, that people connect with most.

So here’s to the jacket I’ll wear on repeat, and the book that keeps finding its way into people’s homes and unexpected places!

Birthday girl … ! (Post a day late!) I’m feeling very grateful to be 42 & living in long term remission from Multiple Sclerosis after being blindsided and waking up one day, not being able to feel my legs from the waist down.

I have been inspired by a fellow Taurean and friend wildinthewolds who is also celebrating her birthday and wrote an intro! I am going to share a mini Intro / Musings related to my ‘nearly’ decade on here!

~ I’m 42 and have three girls who I’m no longer allowed to call the little ladies! I have been with my husband for nearly 20 years and he’s 1/4 Malaysian which I love for our girls!

~ Instagram has changed my life and provided me with a career beyond my wildest dreams but it’s not without its challenges.

~ Myself and my husband come from humble beginnings. I lived in a Women’s Aid refuge as a child and now built The Black House.

~ My Mum was quite absent in my teen years so I don’t have very happy memories from that time of my life. She was in and out of hospital many times under section although thankfully well now.

~ I was saving to go travelling after University but then my Mum was diagnosed with Cancer. She was only in her early 40s and watching her suffer like that was extremely painful but thank goodness she’s ok now. It’s incurable but for now stable. She had very good hair advice for me as she also lost all of hers!

~ I never went abroad as a child, so that’s why I might at times go over board with our girls and travel is one of the most important things I want to do for them and for me of course.

~ I am a classic Taurus. I love hard and am very loyal but don’t forgive or forget very easily.

~ I found my passion for product design through renovating our first home and building The Black House. Nothing makes me feel happier and more proud than seeing something I’ve designed in people’s homes.
