Vignesh Advaith Vemula from Telangana becomes the latest International Master of India

The 15-year-old from Telangana earned his final IM-norm at 100th Paris IdF Masters held in Paris, France from 12th to 18th July.

The teenager earned his first IM-norm at 1st SOA International Chess Festival 2024 GM tournament in February last year. A little over ten months later, he earned his second IM-norm at 15th Odisha Open Grandmaster Chess Festival in December 2024. He also crossed 2400 at the same event. In January 2025 he had a published rating of 2424. Currently, his rating is his highest so far 2441.

He had taken a break for few months from his IM title aspiration due to Class tenth board examinations. However, after he took his exams, he played his first rating tournament in July and scored his final IM-norm.

Congratulations to Vignesh, his family and his coach, GM Chess school of Aleksander Goloshchapov. We wish him the very best on his journey towards the Grandmaster title.

An interview with Vignesh will be published soon, stay tuned.

As a ritual of the ChessBase India chess festival in Hyderabad, we started the event with a tactics challenge but this with a twist. We carefully selected five positions from five amazing games that were played by some of the top players of the world.
A total of twenty-eight players participated in the event and local super-talent Dhruva Thota scored a whopping 24/25 points and grabbed the first place. Two of Hyderabad’s talented girls Samhita Pungavanam and Shivamshika G tied for the second spot but Samhita was declared the winner based on her early submission. Many congratulations to all the winners.

Born in 1949, Muralinath Kopalle is facing 9-year-old Gadepaka Uddeep in the final round of the All India Open FIDE Rating – Koneru Purnachandra Rao Gold Cup & Rolling Shield Chess Tournament 2025 in Hyderabad.

An age gap of almost sixty-seven years, yet they are fighting with equal chances over the board. That’s the beauty of the game of chess.

You will never know what miracles you are capable of until you set out to create them yourself.

On the 29th of June, members of Tribe 64 chess and TeachChess India gathered at Cheers Foundation in Hyderabad.

The idea was to spread the knowledge and joy of learning chess. Team Gift of chess and Ambit were kind enough to share two-hundred chess sets for donations in Hyderabad which we will distribute about various homes and shelters in the city with the help of our amazing volunteers in the coming days.

We donated ten chess sets to the Cheers Foundation and we were amazed to see the curiosity in the youngsters to learn chess. Some of them even knew how to solve mate in one and two problems while others were curious enough to know how the knight moves. The smiling faces while learning how powerful the queen is to solving chess problems, you could see the joy of learning across the room. And of course we also played some fun games while we got some time in between, there’s no stopping that.

The sparkling interest in these kids motivates us to visit them more often and share our knowledge with them and with partners like Gift of chess, Ambit, Tribe64 Chess @ Communitie and the wonderful volunteers to join us everyday, possibilities are endless. We want to thank the volunteers for taking their time out and coming together. Raman T Kumar, Rakesh Gupta, Jatin, Pavan Narendra, Pratik Dehury, Sahitya, Priyam Thakuria, and Vansh.
We will keep posting about all the upcoming drives, if you are in Hyderabad and want to join, please feel free to join.
