As an ARJR physician assistant at HSS, Emily supports patients through the perioperative period following total knee and hip replacements - ensuring medical stability, managing pain, and coordinating care across disciplines for safe, efficient recoveries.

She believes teamwork is the foundation of great healthcare, likening the PA role to a center midfielder in soccer: always communicating, anticipating needs, and connecting the team.

Inspired by her grandmother’s resilience and selflessness, Emily brings unwavering patient focus and compassion to her work. In her first year at HSS, she’s grown in confidence and knowledge, thanks to the mentorship of dedicated colleagues and access to cutting-edge care.

“Being part of this team is something I deeply cherish and will carry with me throughout my career.”

“Being a PA at HSS means being valued, empowered, and part of a team that truly cares.”

As a foot and ankle operative PA, Maureen plays a vital role in the OR - assisting surgeons, maintaining patient safety, and contributing to the success of each procedure. She also supports patients before and after surgery, helping them feel informed and cared for throughout their journey.

She believes compassion is the most important skill a PA can have. “Connecting with patients during a vulnerable time builds trust and improves outcomes.”

Inspired by her hardworking parents, Maureen brings that same dedication to her role - mentoring new colleagues, educating patients, and working alongside a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence.

At HSS, our Physician Assistants (PAs) are at the very forefront of medicine. From conducting physicals and assisting in surgeries to making essential care decisions, we trust this talented, passionate group of medical professionals to provide exceptional patient care.

As an ARJR operative PA, Nicole’s day begins with prepping patients for surgery – reviewing medical records, optimizing care, and offering comfort before they head into the OR. She then assists throughout the procedure, collaborates with the surgical team, and ensures a smooth transition to recovery.

While she believes there’s no single way to be a great PA, being a hardworking, team-oriented provider is key to delivering excellent care. Nicole finds inspiration in her twin sister, an orthopedic trauma fellow, and in the dedicated colleagues she works with every day.

“The best part of my job is the people I’ve met along the way,” said Nicole. “My colleagues are my friends, and I’m lucky to do what I love alongside people who support me.”

For Robin Belsky, a lifelong snow and water skier, being out on the lake isn’t just a hobby—it’s an obsession. Last August, the Mahopac resident missed a turn while water skiing, crashing hard at roughly 50 miles per hour and catapulting head over heels three or four times. Unfortunately, her ski boot didn’t release, which caused her to suffer a trimalleolar ankle fracture, with multiple breaks of the bones around the ankle.

She was referred to Elizabeth A. Cody, MD, a foot and ankle surgeon at HSS. Dr. Cody made it clear that the injury was severe but developed a detailed plan for her recovery. One week after her accident, Dr. Cody rebuilt Robin’s ankle at HSS Orthopedics with StamfordHealth. The extensive procedure required 21 screws, four plates and cadaver bone graft. Following surgery, Robin slowly began to regain her mobility through physical therapy and guided exercise and returned to work in pharmaceutical sales in late October.

In March 2025, eight months post-accident, Dr. Cody removed the hardware around Robin’s ankle, which eased the stiffness and aided her recovery. On Mother’s Day, Robin was back on her water skis feeling strong, stable and alive.

“After my accident, I believed my life was pretty much over, as I was depressed and in horrible pain,” Robin recalls. “Dr. Cody was honest and gave me short-term goals as part of a detailed path to get me back on track. At each stage of my recovery, Dr. Cody and her amazing team were thorough, supportive, and encouraging. She truly fixed me.”

You might have noticed a high number of basketball-related Achilles injuries during the postseason. A thick tendon located in the back of the leg, the Achilles transmits forces from the muscles to the foot, enabling the foot to push off against the ground when walking, running, or jumping.

Rehab after an Achilles tendon tear requires the same dedication - and length of time - whether you’re a pro athlete or a recreational one. Matthew S. Conti, MD, foot and ankle surgeon at HSS, breaks down the recovery process for surgical and non-surgical patients and how strengthening during rehabilitation is an important factor for returning to physical activity.
