Medal Monday! 🏅

Secured a 7 minute PR and the world record! Leading up to the race, I wasn’t feeling 100%, and I truthfully didn’t know if because of that I would hit my goal.

When the moment came, I never gave up. I held on. I was reminded I have a grit in me that is relentless.

The best part is that we made a huge difference spreading awareness for multiple sclerosis, chronic illnesses, and invisible diseases.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the mssociety as we fight to find a cure!

Another thank you to everyone who’s cheered me on along the way! It means so much to me 🫶🏼

Honored to be the mssociety keynote speaker ahead of the Chicago Marathon!

I shared the highs and lows of my MS story though the shock of my diagnosis, the moments I thought I’d never run again, and how I found strength and purpose through the MS community.

After my speech, newly diagnosed runners told me they finally felt seen. Families said my story gave them hope.

Swipe to the end to see the words that will stay with me for ever.

If you’re living with chronic illness, supporting someone who is, or just need a reminder that you’re stronger than you think…this one’s for you. You are not alone

The MS struggle you haven’t seen…

Here’s a real and raw look at what infusions are like for me with multiple sclerosis.

Infusions are my primary treatment for MS paired with MRI’s. They totally wipe me out. They’re six hours where I am hooked up to an IV, and my energy levels get completely depleted.

I always give myself on grace these days to simply rest because it’s what my body needs.

In 3 days, I will flip the script on MS.

I will show that this disease does NOT define me by breaking the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Female Marathon with Multiple Sclerosis.

Donate to my mssociety fundraiser to find a cure through in my b!o. Any amount big or small makes a difference!

Some miles break you before they build you

Marathon training pushes you to the edge with early alarms, heavy legs, runs that just don’t go your way. There are so many where we have to truly pick ourselves back up to keep going.

But I’ve learned something from both running and my cheerleading days that the right words at the right time can change everything 🫶🏼

Cheering has always been in my DNA from the sidelines as a college cheerleader to cheering professionally in Boston. But one thing I love is cheering on runners whether I’m alongside them on the course or spectating.

A simple “You’ve got this” can go a long way late in the race!

I cannot wait to bring that energy to the chimarathon with shokzusa. I love that I can still hear the crowd roar while listening to my hype music.

Shokz has a special opportunity where if you record a cheer on shokz.com via the link in my bio, it could echo through Chicago at mile 17.7 on the big screen when runners need it most! Head there to submit your best cheer!

What are your best cheer words? Let me know below! ⬇️ One lucky winner will win a brand new pair of shokzusa headphones!

Be aware of the grated bridges in chimarathon!

I ran my first Chicago Marathon in 2021 and had no idea about the grates. They’re covered by red carpet while you’re racing, but the texture still feels weird as it’s not a similar sensation to running on pavement.

Mentally prep that when you cross a bridge it will be a different feeling than you’re used to! I believe there are six bridges and they are short, but it’s better to just be aware of the texture heading into it!

Did you know about the grated bridges with red carpet?

The most inspiring story 💜

Chronic illnesses come in different shapes and sizes, and today I walked with my family in honor of my cousin, Sean (igoeyougo200) to end Sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect any organ in the body, and can be sudden and fatal.

Sean’s life changed in the blink of an eye when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest in 2022. His heart stopped for 40 minutes, but his wife jojoigoe saved his life by performing CPR long enough for the EMTs to arrive.

Sean’s life hasn’t been the same since. He’s constantly in and out of doctors for appointments and infusions. He’s had to completely change his lifestyle, and balances his health challenges with working full time and being a dad. His wife didn’t just save his life, but saved their kids from growing up without a father.

Sean may look okay on the outside, but he struggles with this invisible disease behind closed doors. Sarcoidosis is a rare disease which is difficult to diagnose and treat. Today we walked to advance awareness of this disease and help fund research to find a cure with stopsarcoidosis—fundraising over $12,000.

I hope you watch this full video and remember just how lucky we are to have our health, and that we need to live our lives to the fullest.

In Sean’s words “life is delicate.” Count your blessings and be grateful for each day!

Share this with someone to spread awareness about sarcoidosis 💜

The look on his face is priceless 🥹

Living with MS, it takes a village to help between doctors appointments, daily symptom management, and navigating such uncharted territory.

The caretakers of chronic illnesses and health issues are truly the unsung heroes.

My unsung hero who selflessly gives and helps me managed MS everyday is keemonster.

He comes with me to any appointments, does little things to make my life easier like making dinner, and when I’m experiencing strong fatigue he’s at my side for whatever I need to get through it.

Not to mention, he does ALL of my marathon training with me, and rarely gets the opportunity to race himself. He does all of the work, without ever asking for the glory.

I’m so excited to attempt to break the guinnessworldrecords for the Fastest Female Marathon with Multiple Sclerosis with him alongside me at chimarathon. It will be so much fun more meaningful! Watch for us on race day course running side by side!

A huge thank you to mssociety &
chimarathon for making this happen!

The two biggest factors that cause you to hit the wall while running the marathon are…

1.) Going out too fast from the start

2.) Under fueling

You aren’t alone if you’ve made these mistakes! I’ve hit the wall in two marathons and it’s hard to bounce back. But luckily, you can get ahead of it with these tips!

Here’s how to prevent these common mistakes from happening:

DON’T GO OUT TOO FAST

One of the biggest rookie mistakes in long-distance racing is going out too fast at the start. While it might seem like a good thing, it usually backfires. If you go out too fast, you’ll burn through your stored energy too quickly and your muscles will fatigue faster, leaving you feeling tired and depleted toward the end of your race. You can prevent this by sticking to your goal pace, running with a pacing group, and not crowd weaving at the start.

FUEL EARLY AND OFTEN

Start fueling 30 minutes into the race! It may seem early, but running 26.2 requires a lot of energy. Fueling early better prepared you for fatigue in the latter miles of the race when you need more energy. Why is this? Hitting the wall refers to the point in a race where your body simply runs out of energy. Your during race fuel you consume early is broken down into glucose and stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles. When your body runs out of glycogen, it has to utilise other fuel sources, such as fats and proteins, but you’re not able to make energy as effectively. That’s when you would hit the wall and feel the effects.

Who’s gearing up for a fall race?! Let me know below!

Boston, I’m coming for you!! 💙💛

My BQ of 3:19:51 was finally accepted! Not sure what took so long, but hey, better late than never!

This will be my 5th straight Boston Marathon.

Boston means more than any other 26.2 because it’s my hometown. It’s where I went to school, where I fell in love, and where I’ve experienced so many big and small moments in between.

I love this race because of the heartbreak, grit and dedication. I never take it for granted.

My heart also breaks for those who were so close to getting in this year and missed the cutoff. I’ve been on that side of it too and remember how much it stings.

Who will be running Boston this year? Let me know below!
