Not to be dramatic, but I absolutely wept when I finally saw this room all come together. We started working on it back in May and it’s truly better than I ever envisioned. Just as I was putting the linens back on the bed, there was a sudden downpour immediately followed by the warmest sun beams streaming through the windows, along with a cool country breeze rustling the curtains (see last slide). It was a magical moment, this room just feels RIGHT and I think maybe that was the universe’s way of giving approval. Almost forgot to post! Had a lovely slow few August weeks in the city, it’s such a quiet time of year because everyone clears out for the last bits of summer. As a city girl, I’ve always dreamt of slow mornings like these. I manage to have them in the city too, but these country walks do great things to my soul. I started to see signs of fall as soon as I drove upstate, then was greeted by my fruiting apple trees upon arriving at the house. Not sure what’s more beautiful, the bokeafront pieces or the fact my storage space just multipled, but either way I’m so happy with how this bar project turned out! Ahhh I am DELIGHTED by this project’s end result. We could have done this a million different ways and definitely used a lighter weight material to mount the wallpaper (canvas, poster board etc.) but I wanted it to feel really substantial. Obviously way easier to paint the frame before assembly, I just had to get Sebastian to assemble before he ran out the door which is why I painted after! I rearrange the living room pretty much every year/every other year. Visually, I like it the other way but this way functions better, so by swapping it I get the best of both worlds, one at a time. We started working on the deck on June 7th and have been tinkering away at it for the past two months, but we’re finally fully done! Well, minus stain which you have to wait a few months to do anyway. A huge selling point of this house was the enormous back yard with glorious, uninterrupted views of the mountains. We immediately knew we had to take full advantage of it, and an old concrete foundation (formerly an outbuilding) was already situated in the ideal sunset vantage point, so we decided to build the deck on top of it which saved us a lot of time, money and effort instead of demoing it. Also, the tree and lilac bush that arch over provide the loveliest shade on sunny days. This is just the beginning of a long list of outdoor projects, first thing next spring we’re going to start prepping for a firepit, each of our existing decks connected to the house need rebuilding, at some point I’ll start a garden, I want to have wildflower-lined stone pathways connecting each space, and so, so much more. We definitely will never get bored here! For now, we’re enjoying every last bit of summer right here on the deck.
