I originally thought I’d only change into my second dress for dancing, but when I tried it on at my fitting in Kate’s studio I knew I didn’t want to save it for just a few hours in the dark, so I ended up changing before dinner so I could enjoy more of the evening in it and miss as little of the dancing as possible after dinner finished!!

For my second dress, I wanted something easier to move in that still felt sultry and sculptural but very me. I’ve always loved the idea of a beautiful French silk slip dress, but the classic shapeless styles have never quite suited me. So I came to halfpennylondon with a brief that probably sounded like it was from a period drama. Drapes, under some sort of corset. And she just got it. We used the silhouette of a 1940s waspie, an underbust corset that adds shape and structure, layered over that perfect silk.

Then we made it ours. I’ve always loved the delicacy of embroidery on both silk and corsetry, so I asked if we could add three national flowers to the waspie. The orchid for Kenya, the iris for France (the two flowers of my husband’s heritage) and the sunflower because after one of our first dates, he sent me a bunch and it just became our flower.

Yes it took twenty minutes to get into it before dinner, but it was so worth it.

I paired it with the most beautiful diamonds from boodles that made the whole look feel even more special.

Thank you halfpennylondon for creating not one but two dresses that made me feel incredible, I am so incredibly lucky to say this was a gift.

One thing we definitely wanted from our wedding was for it to be the party of a lifetime.

Once my second dress was on, I was so ready to celebrate, so much so that I immediately ditched my planned heels for flats before we even did our entrance. All the nerves were gone, and I could just fully soak up the day (and the drinks).

Dinner was set along one long table with views stretching across the French countryside. We swapped a floral centrepiece for hundreds of candles, scattered between big ol bread rolls and letters for every guest. It created the dreamiest atmosphere as the sun set. We ate the most incredible meal and listened to the 3 speeches (featuring the sweetest surprise !!)

We didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, so instead we had the most beautiful raspberry mille-feuille that I’ve been dreaming about for months.

And then, the party began. I take organised fun very very seriously. So we’d asked the band to create the kind of energy where people would be dancing before dessert, and they truly delivered. A trumpeter led the charge and by the end of dinner, everyone was ready to go, and we had our first dance.

At midnight, it was time to continue the party!! We hadn’t told anyone but the venue converted an old barn to be able to use for our after party. We set it up with a full lighting rig for a club feel and the most amazing alrmusic DJ kept the tunes going until 3am.

Oh, and there was a pick n mix and croque monsieur station, which may or may not have saved us all.

It was exactly what we wanted, three parts romance, one part chaos, and all of it just really really fun.

The morning of the wedding was so special!!

To be surrounded by the women who have shaped me into who I am and take in the nerves and the anticipation together.

We made breakfast together in the kitchen (i did nothing and was treated to a 10/10 breakkie), all in our matching pyjamas, sipping iced coffees and trying to keep the nerves at bay. My sister taught a yoga class in the gardens, and then we laid by the pool before slowly getting ready. We took it in turns hopping in and out of the chair, music playing in the background and just yapping away.

It still feels completely surreal that armanibeauty did my wedding makeup. Years ago, I fell in love with their products when I bought my first luminous silk foundation, never imagining they’d become part of my actual love story. And then came the proposal, disguised as a fake Armani Beauty brand trip, complete with a made-up schedule, content plans, and an Armani makeup artist who was fully in on it, flown out to the south of france. It was the most elaborate, thoughtful surprise, and from that moment on, they were a part of this story. To have them do my makeup at the start of the next chapter is the most full circle of full circle moments.

The brief was long-lasting glam that worked for both of my looks but didn’t feel too heavy. I’ve used luminous silk for years, so as someone who needs full coverage for scarring but wants a glow, I knew it could more than hold its own in the strong (manifested) south of france sun. I love their eye tints and the prisma glass lipgloss never leaves my bag, so I all my essentials got to be part of the big day. But busterknight still exceeded every expectation, bringing my vision to life and making me feel so myself.

To be able to marry the man of your dreams is one thing, but him staging a whole proposal with your favourite makeup brand and then that makeup brand doing your wedding makeup is just a bit too much luck for one girl I’d say

Ok we’re gonna go through night by night and then I will shut up 🤪 On Friday night, we hosted all our guests for a sunset welcome dinner at our first venue to kick everything off. Bringing our favourite people together is the most special part of all of this, but I underestimated how it would feel to have everyone here, anticipating the whole weekend together and the wedding the next day!

We always knew we wanted all our guests there from the very start. The whole aim of the weekend was for people to feel completely at home for three days, and we wanted to make sure that feeling started the moment they touched down. That’s also why we made it a sit down dinner to encourage everyone to meet people they didn’t know and head into the weekend having already made new friends!

We started with welcome drinks out the front of the chateau, on the gravel between the courtyard gardens. As the sun began to dip, we moved to the back of the chateau where dinner was set up with a full sunset view, tucked beneath the chestnut trees and lit with festoon lighting. I knew I wanted a string quartet playing as guests arrived to create that romantic atmosphere and it was everything I’d imagined and more.

The brief for food was basically everything we’ve ever dreamed of and you’ll come to see this was a theme of the weekend. We had 7 food stations including a plancha, a raclette, and French gravlax.

I found this sculptured Maticevski dress a few months ago and as soon as I tried it on I knew it had to be in my wedding looks. I’m often more comfortable in tailoring than dresses, so I loved the fact this felt somewhere in the middle.

We laughed until we cried and I will never forget the feeling of seeing all our loved ones together for the first time. It was like Christmas Eve but maybe a million times better.

The dress of my dreams.

I feel so unbelievably lucky to have spent the past year working with the one and only Kate Halfpenny to create the dress of my dreams, from scratch.

I hadn’t given much thought to my wedding dress before I got engaged, but as soon as I started looking, I found it really hard to find something that felt like me. I found that the dresses that suited my body type weren’t ‘me’ stylistically, and the ones I loved from a fashion point of view just didn’t suit me at all. I then organically went for a try on at Halfpenny, and there were so many elements of their designs that I just loved - the way they use volume and texture, and create modern pieces without feeling too avant-garde. I never knew you could literally create your own bespoke dress from scratch with every detail decided by you, and when Kate mentioned the idea, I jumped at the chance to work with someone so talented (not before I screamed down the phone to my best friend first).

I had a really clear idea of exactly what features I wanted my dress to have - I knew I wanted it to be structural, but feminine, and traditionally inspired, but without feeling like I was in costume. Kate saw my vision and quite simply made it happen and more. She was so happy to listen and listen and listen, and then every time she came back with magic. The contrast between the liquid silk and the tulle is everything I dreamed of, and her knowledge of shape and drape is in every stitch.

Every session with her and her team of incredible women (who hand make the pieces in london!) was a joy. If you know me, you know I love nothing more than talented women who’ve grown their businesses from the ground up, and being able to work week in, week out, with Kate and her incredible team was something I will never forget. Being this obsessed with my dress at the end is the bonus.

This experience was the most special gift, and I will be eternally grateful to Kate and her halfpennylondon team for bringing my dream to life.

(Incredibly lucky to say this was gifted, something I will absolutely never get over)

There’s something quite full circle about this episode going live in the week of my wedding as I first came across thematthewhussey years and years ago, right after a breakup, and I remember sending that episode to about five friends because it completely reframed how I thought about love.

So when he was in London, we sat down to talk about the things that make or break our relationships, whether you’re single, dating, a decade into marriage or just a few days away (eeek!!).

We spoke about:

- Why so many of us choose the wrong people and how to break the cycle
- How to spot red flags without becoming paranoid
- The key to setting boundaries without scaring someone off
- How to keep desire strong long after the honeymoon phase

Matt speaks like it’s straight out of a bestselling book (which he does have a few of) so if you’re in need of a love life pep talk, give this one a listen.

If you comment love, I’ll send you the link to an episode I’ve filmed with the world’s most famous dating coach.

I realised all too recently that burnout isn’t just about doing too much, it’s about doing too much of the wrong things!!

As women, we’re so often conditioned to normalise burnout, we pride ourselves on our ability to juggle, to multitask, to keep everyone happy.

I spoke last week on the podcast about how over the last decade women have taken on more working hours than ever before but not taken on any less of the emotional labour or domestic tasks, leading to so many of us wearing exhaustion is a badge of honour, when really it’s a big flashing warning sign.

I wasn’t sure whether to do a solo episode on burnout, because it felt a bit embarrassing to admit. I’m not scared to say publicly that I tie a lot of my self worth to my achievement and productivity, and I always thought I should be able to manage my own life and workload without talking about the fact that I’ve very much been in the depths of it before.

But after last week’s chat with Dr Julie got a little more personal than I was expecting, I got so many messages from people who have also been stuck in a burnout cycle and realised I was doing myself and everyone a bit of a disservice not releasing this one and keeping it in the drafts!

If you comment ‘burnout’, I’ll send you an episode all about how to tackle it.

I really hope you find it useful! (and try to remember: rest is productive!) 2025-08-11 22:32:26 I r.. 15,752 -68% 674 +38%
Today’s episode is one I’ve wanted to record for so long. It’s about self-sabotage, the patterns we fall into when we procrastinate, overthink that ultimately mean we hold ourselves back even if we’re trying to move forward and get our shit together.

This week, I wanted to have a bit of a mindset bootcamp and tackle self sabotage in a way that’s honest, and genuinely useful. So I brought in the brilliant drjulie the most incredible clinical psychologist and multi-bestselling author to walk us through it all.

We spoke about:

– How to deal with burnout when you can’t take time off
– Why self-criticism can feel like discipline (but isn’t)
– How to stop procrastinating what matters most
– Tools you can actually use when you’re feeling stuck

If you comment ‘mindset’, I’ll send you an episode all about why we all burn out again and again and how to stop it.

I am sooo excited this is finally ready it’s gonna absolutely change your life like it has mine🧘🏼‍♀️🫧🥱 If you comment ‘snooze’ I’ll send you the early access link for the supplement that wins the award for taking the longest time to develop (but best end result)

And just like that, another year has gone by, and we’ve not had a shreddy product launch. And it’s all because of this beauty (or, I should say, sleeping beauty).

It’s taken months of development, but I’m so proud to say the team have absolutely smashed it. We wanted to create the perfect addition to your bedtime routine. An upgraded sleepy girl mocktail, backed by science.

I didn’t want to create a supplement that knocked me out or made me wake up feeling foggy or thrown off. I just wanted something that helped you switch gears at night (and, also importantly, tasted like cherry tea when taken hot and a pre bed squash when taken cold).

It’s launching this Thursday, we haven’t ordered a load as this is a first launch, so I’d recommend signing up to early access if you want to get your hands on it!

unsexy but useful podcast klaxon! 🚨

When we recorded the business compilation episode back in February I had so many messages asking for more business content.

There’s soo much gatekeeping when it comes to entrepreneurship, and I’m a firm believer that the only way we can lower the barriers to entry for entrepreneurship is by being as transparent as possible about what it’s actually like. So that’s the theme for this week.

For today’s episode I’ve put together list of the things I’ve learnt from my mistakes over the last 9 years of running businesses.

And every single day this week I’ve put some time aside to do a Q&A on the workinghardpod Instagram and answer as many of your business related questions as possible.

If you comment ‘business’ i’ll send you our episode all about what I wish I knew when I started my businesses.

I really hope it’s useful! 2025-07-28 22:29:51 .. 0 -100% 232 -53%
This isn’t my usual content, but I believe your IG should reflect your life and this has been a huge part of mine this year. So let’s talk pcos!

A year ago,I committed to doing everything I could to alleviate my PCOS symptoms because it felt like my body was screaming at me. I was first suspected of having it at 13, waited 6 months for my appointment, only to be told: “You’re not fat & you’re not hairy, so you don’t have PCOS.”

I’d love to say women’s health has improved, but 15yrs of PCOS & endo appointments say otherwise (women are mocked for turning to social media yet 65% of women say their pain isn’t taken seriously by doctors.) Which is why I do think it’s important to talk about this online.

I’ve had loads of DMs about my PCOS especially now the difference is noticeable so I wanted to share what’s helped ease my symptoms. Last year, I was struggling with a full face of acne, debilitating brain fog, irregular periods & was then heartbroken to be told both that I wasn’t ovulating properly & that it would be surprising if I could carry a healthy pregnancy with the current state of my body & its hormones. I was completely defeated. I’d been dealing with these symptoms for 15 years, asked repeatedly for insight into my body, constantly just being told in the end that I should just come back if I did have trouble conceiving, even though I wasn’t anywhere near ready to try.

I’m about 8 months into changing most areas of my life to improve my symptoms. I’ve changed the way I eat, sleep, drink & workout, all while trying not to make my life boring as fuck lol. We fight diet culture, yet it’s hard not to think about food - only to be told weight loss is the solution (textbook PCOS). That being said, the changes I’ve made have made a huge difference - my skin is so much clearer, I hardly ever get brain fog, I’ve lost around 20lb which I’m incredibly proud of myself for (even though, as a woman, you’re damned if you do or don’t with how weight loss is seen) & most importantly for me, I now have regular, manageable periods.

Today’s episode is a personal one that I really hope will help a lot of people! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 13, and it’s been 15 years now of being sent from doctor to doctor, with so little information, gaslighting and no results.

Last year, I found my symptoms pretty debilitating and made a promise to myself to prioritise my health in 2025. I don’t want to speak too soon, but I feel I’ve really turned a corner with my PCOS, and on the rare occasion I’ve spoken about it on here, I’ve had so many questions from fellow PCOS girlies about the condition, what I did, and what the latest research is.

So, I wanted to use this week of the podcast to create a dedicated resource on PCOS for everyone else who like me last year, feels so confused about how to manage it. I have obviously enlisted the help of an expert, and invited the amazing drhazelwallace to give us all the latest, as she’s literally just written an entire book on periods & hormonal health.

Hazel also answered a load of your questions like..
- The best tips for PMS symptoms
- How to advocate for yourself at the doctors
- How to support someone you know who has PCOS

I don’t take it for granted how lucky I am to have the platform to create these kind of episodes, and I really hope it helps if you, or someone you know, is on their own journey with PCOS or other hormonal conditions 🫶

As you know, on workinghardpod we’re all about having in depth conversations with people on things they haven’t spoken about before, to really get to the crux of their experience and unfiltered advice. And this episode does exactly that.

She doesn’t need an introduction, but emmagrede is the founding partner of Good American, Skims, Safely and now Off Season. She’s also the host of aspirewithemmagrede

Emma has built truly successful businesses with the world’s biggest stars. But let me be clear with you, this is not just an episode for entrepreneurs.

It’s an episode for anyone who has big dreams, but needs to draw the path to get there. It’s an episode for anyone stuck in a job, a situation, or a relationship they’re not sure is serving them. It’s an episode for anyone looking to grow their confidence.

Emma is the mentor we all wish we had, and so I wanted this episode to be an hour with the best of the best.
