Japan travel tip! No more fumbling with coins at the konbini with this coin organizer 🍙

It can hold 2,830 yen at a time and fits most wallets.

Thanks to my friend for buying me this as an omiyage (souvenir) from Tokyo 🙇‍♀️

I was chatting with with a friend the other day. He says I'm one of the rare pokemons who use zoom lens often. REALLY?! 🤯 This must change!

Here's Tokyo Skytree taken from Tsukishima to show why I love the zoom lens and why you should never ever ever ever underestimate the phone zoom lens in our pockets.

Thanks phonenomenon for the convo that birthed this reel 😆

I'm not a huge disney fan and I even already knew what to expect since this ride went viral when it first opened last year, but I didn't expect that it would still bring all the feeeeels 🥲 such a precious experience. The visuals made up for the short duration of it.

Snaps from my September in Tokyo

1️⃣+2️⃣ I went to Disneysea for the first time. The Tangled ride is every bit as magical as it look (albeit short!)

3️⃣+4️⃣ Skytree and Tsukishima alley on 5x. Did you know I'm a huge fan of shooting on zoom lens on the iPhone?

5️⃣+6️⃣ This September was brutally hot, so we took a midweek break to cool down at Sanba Gorge in Saitama. The water here is so clear and refreshing.

7️⃣Yakushi Nyorai, Healing Buddha statue at Daienji in Meguro. You can buy a gold foil sheet from the temple for 500 yen and put it on the statue, on body parts where it hurts for you. If you do this, Yakushi Nyorai will take away your bodily pain.

8️⃣+9️⃣ A coffee experience at Glitch Coffee. I've never had coffee like this - mine tasted like grapefruit. Go early in the morning so you don't have to line up.

1️⃣0️⃣ Vintage map hunting in Jimbocho. Jimbocho felt like stepping into a time machine back to the Showa era. The area is known for antique books, maps, ukiyo-e prints, and many others. This shop on Suzuran street also has adult magazines... but vintage of course, among all the old maps and stamps 🤭

1️⃣1️⃣ Tokyo Tower from Toranomon Hills, taken on my last day in Tokyo

tysm iPhone 5x zoom 🙏 Ichigo Daifuku tasted extra good with Mount Fuji in the background 😬

Ichigo Daifuku is a type of Japanese sweets (wagashi) made of mochi filled with sweet red bean paste and topped with strawberries. They can be commonly found in Japan when strawberries are in season, which usually runs from January to April. 🍓

🍙 Do you know how to properly open a packaged onigiri (rice ball) from a konbini? Yes, the instructions are written on the package, but many may have missed it. I certainly didn't know when I first visited Japan!

It is packaged this way so that the nori (roasted seaweed) remains fresh and crisp! The moisture from the rice could make the nori soggy. This packaging separates the nori from the rice and ensures they do not touch until it is ready to be consumed.

📌 Save this reel for your next trip to Tokyo

Shibuya Sky is a fairly new open-air observatory in Tokyo. It is located on the 47th floor of the Shibuya Scramble Square building at about 230m above ground.

Although it is not the tallest observatory in Tokyo, it is undoubtedly the most popular one at the moment. So, here are my 3 top tips for visiting Shibuya Sky:

1. Book tickets in advance - Shibuya Sky is a top attraction for both locals and tourists, and they do sell out. During my visit at 3:20 pm, there were no tickets left for the day and many disappointed visitors were turned away. Book ahead and secure your spot! Tickets are released four weeks in advance.

2. Plan for peak times - Morning tickets are fairly easy to get but if you’re aiming for the same golden-hour view that you see on this reel, be ready to book as soon as tickets become available four weeks before. Sunset is prime time and slots fill up fast!

3. Prepare to store your things in the locker - For security, you will need to store all loose belongings in a 100-yen locker before heading up, including hats and bags. Only cameras are allowed on the rooftop. So, try to avoid going on a shopping sprees before your visit.

🗻🚅 If you’re taking the Shinkansen (bullet train) between Tokyo and Osaka, here are some tips for spotting Mount Fuji along the way:

1. The North Side
To catch a view of Mount Fuji, sit on the side of the train facing north:
- Tokyo ➡️ Osaka: Sit on the right side
- Osaka ➡️ Tokyo: Sit on the left side

2. Reserved vs. Non-Reserved Seats
When buying Shinkansen ticket, you can choose between reserved and non-reserved seat. Reserved seats cost a bit more, but you can choose your seat in advance. Non-reserved seats are first come, first served, so you’ll often see people lining up before boarding. If you’re traveling during a busy season, a reserved seat is worth it!

3. Best Time to Spot Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji is often hiding behind clouds, so for the best view, travel in autumn or winter, especially in December or January when visibility is highest. This clip was filmed in December!

4. Missed the North Side? Don’t Worry!
If you couldn’t book a seat on the side facing north, you can still catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji. Head to the space between the train cars—there’s a small window there perfect for a quick view.

📌 Save this for your next holiday

Immaculate service, amazing food, the perfect paradise. This is Nikoi Island, a small private island located off the east coast of Bintan and very close to Singapore. It only takes only 20 minutes to circle the island by foot.

We stayed for 4 days which I thought would be plenty on such a small island. But when it was time to leave, I was very sad! I think I could have done with one more night.

Book ahead if you plan to go during holidays - the island does get booked up.

This place surprised me. From the outside, it looked like a trendy cafe with fancy architecture.

Inside, they are actually a very small patisserie with a minimal menu – only five types of desserts, and they don’t serve coffee – only tea! There is no seating inside and very limited standing tables outside. However, what they do have is nothing short of amazing.

An offshoot of the nearby Michelin-starred Tacubo by Daisuke Takubo, this patisserie serves dessert that you could get at Tacubo without having to sit down for the entire course.

They are known for their Canele (400 yen) but I personally think their Choux a la creme in custard (700 yen) is the star. The choux creme is also available in hazelnut. Highly recommended while you’re in Daikanyama.

The story goes - after attending the Singapore Grand Prix and witnessing how tourists struggled in Singapore's heat, I wrote a (hopefully useful) survival guide on my blog tailored specifically for F1 fans who were coming to town for the race.

Lucky for me, someone from airwallex (Thanks Jon!) found my post and kindly extended an invite to their private event with landonorris. It was probably THE FASTEST I've ever responded to an email.

I wrote that blog post with the intention only to be helpful, but I never ever would have expected that it would lead to seeing Lando in person a year later. I guess this is why they say when you are passionate about something - you just DO IT.

Lando became the Singapore GP 2024 winner a few days later 😉

Autumn is one of the most beautiful time to be in Japan - It's momijigari season.

Momijigari (紅葉狩り) is the Japanese tradition of visiting areas where leaves have turned red in the autumn. “Momiji” means red leaves, and “Gari” means hunting – so quite literally, it means hunting autumn leaves.

In Japan, leaves usually start turning colors when the temperature drops below 8 degrees Celsius. While the peak varies from region to region, typically it happens in mid November to early December.

No safety car this year so I got busy taking pictures of fast cars with my iPhone 15 Pro Max instead 😤 Here is how:

1. Make use of the zoom lens - Unless you have a media pass, you are going to be far away from the track even if you have front row seats in the best grandstand. In my case, the 5x zoom comes in handy!

2. AE/AF lock - F1 cars go as fast as 275 km/hr, so you'll want to ready your settings before they come. Find a spot on the track where the car would likely go past and keep the yellow box (focus) there. The circuit is also brightly lit for the night race, so make sure to adjust the exposure accordingly (I turned mine down). Once you're happy with the setting, do a long press on the yellow box to lock the exposure and focus. This ensures the settings stay put when you're shooting later!

3. Track the car with your phone while at the same time shooting with burst mode - The secret to taking a photo of a fast moving object with iPhone is the burst mode. But if you want that cool blurred background effect, you'll also want to pan your iphone and track the cars with the phone as much as you can! This means moving your camera along with the cars, matching the same speed that it's going. Yes this takes practice.

4. Choose the sharpest frame - Go to your photos app and open any of the burst photo you've taken. Click on 2024-10-01 09:20:29 No safety car this .. 118,811 +1,983% 230 +1,113%

Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan, first established during the Dutch colonization era in the 1600s. From then on, it was known as the ancient capital city of Taiwan. It continues to hold the title of the capital city for over 200 years, until the 18th century when the capital was moved to Taichung and then to Taipei, where the capital city currently sits.

This is egg cookie from Leng Tih Tong, a local cookie maker that has been operating for a long time in Tainan - since the Japanese occupation days. On the first bite, this cookie tasted very nostalgic to me. And then, I realized why – it’s because the egg cookies taste pretty much identical to fortune cookies 😆🥠
