Today (my bday🎂🎉)is always full of emotions because it’s also the anniversary of my move to Istanbul. 12 years here today… I can barely believe it. I remember that day, sitting on the bottom bunk bed in a 6 bed shared hostel, sobbing over a Skype call with my best friend. Reality had hit me that I had moved to a foreign country - and I said “What have I done??” And my bestie just laughed and said “This is what you wanted, it’ll all be fine”. And it was. There are too many special people who have become my “family” over these 12 years- too many memories to be captured in pictures- but I’m grateful for every second, every single moment, and to know all of you. I’m also so fortunate to have been able to share this life with visits from best friends and family. Looking back, I don’t regret this decision at all but I would have regretted never trying. Sometimes there’s nothing like coming ‘home’ from a big trip that makes you love home. As wonderful as my trip in Feb. was, I got back to Istanbul and found myself falling in love all over again. This past month had a somber mood, but it reinforced to do the things we love with those we love while we can. I savored the slow wanderings around the city, revisiting my favorite places.
