- It’s harder than it looks. Happy Chuseok, everyone! — [Special Collab with saemmulsong x esyfilms] Chuseok is what we Koreans call our version of Thanksgiving. While it falls around the same time as the Mid-Autumn Festival, the way we celebrate it is quite different. In Korea, it’s a time when families reunite, pay respects to their ancestors, and give thanks for the year’s harvest. And of course — we eat Songpyeon (송편). These half-moon rice cakes are filled with sweet sesame honey and brushed with sesame oil, giving them their signature fragrance. For many of us, it’s not just the taste, but the *memories* — of family gatherings, laughter, and home — that make Songpyeon so special. Here’s how you can make it at home 👇 📍Ingredients: • Rice flour (not glutinous rice) • Water • Honey • Sugar • Sesame seeds • Salt • Food dye (optional) Instructions: 1. Mix rice flour and water in a 1 : 0.8 ratio, then knead into a soft, slightly moist dough — think play-dough texture. 2. For the filling: combine 7 TB crushed sesame seeds, 2 TB sugar, 2 TB honey, 1 TB water, and a pinch of salt. 3. Pinch off small pieces of dough and roll them into balls. 4. Flatten each one, add the filling, and pinch to seal. Shape into a ball or crescent moon. 5. Steam on high heat for 12 minutes, then let it rest for 3 minutes in residual heat. 6. Brush with sesame oil and garnish with sesame seeds. There you have it — homemade Songpyeon that’s chewy on the outside and sweet inside. Wishing you a warm, joyful Chuseok and Mid-Autumn Festival! — #songpyeon #chuseok #midautumnfestival #esyfilms #koreantradition
