  • Some spaces really become the soul of the home. For this one, it was always going to be the mandir. It took over 500 hours to build, but the idea came to us much before that. We were inspired by the Kalpavruksh, the tree of life. It’s something that shows up across Indian art and mythology, and it felt like the right way to hold the energy of this space. Here’s what went into making it: • Designing a tree that moves across three walls, almost like it’s growing out of the space, not just placed into it. • The base was made using brass and sand casting, so it had that rooted, organic feel, nothing too stiff or flat. • Every branch was wire twisted by hand, with small beads added one by one to create depth and texture. • For colour and contrast, we added inlay with pink jade, malachite, yellow honey, and red onyx, all chosen to feel rich without being loud. • And the whole piece was iterated more than 10 times till it felt just right. It’s detailed, expressive, and something you keep finding new things in. We love how this turned out. It’s intricate but still warm, traditional in its story but fresh in the way it sits within the home. As someone who loves art, this one was really special to work on. What do you think of it? Would love to hear your thoughts. Tree element designed by takshni My outfit from samatvambyanjalibhaskar [#mandirdesign #bespokeart #kalpavruksh #indianinteriors #homedesign #essajeesatelier]
  • This bathroom is from a 5000 sq ft home we designed in the heart of South Mumbai. It’s a compact space, but we knew we wanted to do something a little bold with it. The client had chosen a very bright green marble that could easily feel overpowering in a bathroom. Strong colour, small space, it’s a risky combination, and can start looking quite dated if not handled carefully. So here’s what we did to make it work: - We used the green just on the basin counter and carried it up a little behind the mirror. Most of it gets hidden by the mirror anyway, so you get just a peek of it, nothing too loud. - On the floor, we used the same marble again but cut into small inlay squares set inside white marble. That helped break up the colour and keep the flooring light. - Inside the shower, we kept everything white except one wall. For that wall, we took small pieces of the green and white marble and made a mosaic pattern. It’s got this soft peppered effect and doesn’t feel dark at all. It’s subtle, fresh and still adds colour without taking over the space. We actually love how it turned out. Would you try something like this in your own bathroom? Or is there another bold colour you’ve been thinking about using? [Essajees Atelier, bathroom, mumbai, #bathroomdesign #mosaicmarble #interiors #studio #interiordesign #marble #modern #design]
  • When we first got the brief for Foo at Phoenix Mills, we were so excited. It’s one of the most prized locations in the city, and we knew we wanted to do something special here. But the site came with an unexpected challenge, there weren’t any walls. Just windows and open space everywhere. It sounded great at first, but it meant we had to completely rethink how to make the restaurant feel inviting, comfortable, and functional without relying on traditional partitions. We decided to use arches to make it all work. They break the restaurant into smaller sections, creating little pockets of intimacy without taking away from the scale. One of these arches even doubles up as a door so the restaurant can be closed off when needed, and the thickness of the walls gave us space to tuck in storage, service stations, and even artwork. It solved the practical problems while giving the space its own identity and warmth. Now when you walk through Foo, you don’t feel like you’re in one big hall you feel like every corner has its own story. That’s why we love this project so much. What do you think about how we approached this? Would you have guessed there were no walls here at all?
